Once, I saw the startup and shutdown used a black startup/shutdown with like gray or silver graphics..not the usual wimpy pale blue.
No idea how I did this--anyone else seen a different version like myself?
Yesterday i bought new grafic card geforce GT440 after my old 9800 GT stoped functioning normaly(memory failure). So here is the problem, when I start any program or do anything the computer the computer is functioning normally, but when I turn to desktop(which has black wallpaper) the monitor goes so dark that I can't see almost nothing. I tryed to find some power saving options in windows(win 7 pro, 64 bit) and on envidia control panel but i cannot find any cause for that dark screen. Even if I load a black page on my mozilla the monitor goes dark. As it cannot represent dark colors normally.

It all started after I clicked on a bad link and tried installing some software. I virus scanned and removed two trojans. Nothing has been detected and I've full scanned with both microsoft security essentials and Malwarebyte antimalware and nothing comes up anymore.
The problem is, Windows 7 gives me errors when using programs such as IE, WoW, etc. Blue Screens. Often when I startup it blue screens to a dump screen. Problem is resolved by just rebooting. This issue seems to have been coming up when I installed a Galaxy GT 240 video card. Using CRT connection to my 42" LG LCD. Motherboard is Biostar G41-DVI, processor is Pentium D 820 which is set to 220 which gives me roughly 3.1ghz.
The fan is around 3k rpm and the temp levels are steady at around 31c. Could the issue be with the video card? It started actually the first time I installed it. Could there be a setting in bios I'm over looking. I have not tried to update the drivers for the card.

i have done a memtest and it was successful without fail also this is the 3rd time I have done a clean install before was cause of ntoskrnl.exe so did a clean install now its cause of win32k.sys?
My computer is a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows 7. I just got it like a month ago. Recently it has decided to be a real bugger. Everytime I try to start it up, it either gets stuck on the "welcome" screen or advances past it and goes to a pitch black screen with just a cursor. I've also found that if I try to shut the computer down without just pressing the power button, it can't turn off.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 on both my new Desktop and my 2 year old laptop. My laptop was the first to receive the upgrade to 7 and has been working awesomely. The start up is phenomenal and shutdown is no hassle, however my laptop runs on the 32 bit software. Now my desktop, I just recently upgraded it to 7 last week however I haven't noticed the same performance boost as I have on my laptop. I do run 64 bit on my desktop, but I am curious as to why the shutdown and startup times are rather slow.
I have gone as far as to limit the start up programs as well as some of the boot options being the GUI boot and maximizing the number of processors that are used during startup. Sometimes even during the start up the screen goes black for a few minutes after I enter my login password. I have Intel Quad Core 2 with 8GB Ram and TB of Hard Drive space. I just don't understand why it takes much longer to start and shut down when my laptop with less performance can.

My issues:I have been having slow shut downs and a few other sleep mode issues. Shutdown:Gets the "shutting down" screen and stays for 10 minutes (literally) Standby:Nothing i can see but "advanced tools" in performance info says: "Etron eXtensible Hub Driver is causing windows to resume slowly" filename etronhub3.sys I also have many many errors/warning and Criticals in my event viewer.Some point towards a driver, others just say boot time degradation. I have tried a W7 dvd repair but it says there are no errors.I have not done a restore as the errors go back months and arent a new thing... just something i havent noticed until now.Is there anyone who can give me an idea how to interpret the errs and criticals to understand what may be holding up my shutdown?
At my school, every time you shut down the computer it wipes all user data (I believe) from the primary drive (or partition). So, every time the computer is started the primary drive/partition reverts to whatever restore point the IT department has set. I would like to do this to my personal computer, but the question is how? Is it something I can set the task scheduler to do? By doing some research I found that I can (not that I want to) create a new restore point at every start up with task scheduler, so it seems only logical that I can load a restore point of my choice at every start up without having to physically go into system restore at every start up.
I have 2x 600GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration divided into 2 partitions. The (primary) C: contains Windows 7 Pro x64 and related files and the (secondary) G: has everything else (i.e. all of my developer tools, games, and misc files that all have a scheduled back up onto an external). I would like the C: to revert to the restore point of my choice at every start up. If it is a "simple" script to perform this task...great! But, if it requires extreme diligence (like an entire IT department to maintain)... forget it, it's not that big of a deal.
Anyway, anytime my Sony Vaio computer isn't shut down properly, or the screen times out due to inactivity, it will show a screen that says "windows is loading files" and then proceeds to do a start up repair in which it will try to restore my device to a previous setting (or something like that). When i first got this computer, as with my previous HP, I could close the lid..no harm no foul. After having this one for a month it started doing this out of nowhere.

Yesterday when I went to shut down my computer, it froze. Not seeing any alternative, I manually powered it down. When later attempting to turn the machine on, I received an error (with no specific error message) saying that it was unable to startup successfully, and presented me with a menu for running diagnostics, backing up data, resetting to factory defaults, etc.. Being very short on sleep at the time, I decided "I'll deal with this tomorrow" and shut it down.
Just now, when powering up to try to deal with it, it started up fine. Thing is, without having done anything to fix the issue, I'm worried there might still be a problem with my machine, since I've been told failures to boot properly usually indicate something serious. The computer is an HP Pavilion dv7-6b55dx running Windows 7 64-bit service pack 1. I ran a virus scan and it came up clean, and a spyware scan is running as I type this.
I recently built a pc but been having random BSODs. I have updated all my drivers to the latest versions. The most recent BSOD I got is today while surfing the net.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed a retail copy of win 7 on my laptop and have been experiencing some issues. At first everything worked fine but out of the blue my desktop/folders have not been auto-refreshing. Whenever I try to delete or create a new folder I have to manually refresh to the folder in order to view it. When shutting down my laptop it takes 5+ minutes and when my desktop is loading after booting up the laptop it takes several minutes for everything to load and for the win 7 chime.
Finally, it won't allow me to update. When I try to use the windows updater it hangs for a while on "creating restoring point" (which may be normal) but then permanently hangs on installing update 1/16 at 0%. If I try canceling the update nothing happens and even when I try to shut down the laptop it attempts to install the updates but hangs on update 1/16.
From researching these issues I've realized that the auto-refresh problem is not uncommon and has something to do with a network. This may be unrelated but these problems only started to occur when I was transferring pictures via a USB stick.
I have installed a new Creative "Soundblaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro USB Audio System with THX SB1095" soundcard. I disabled the old on-board card. Note: It's USB. When I start-up, shutdown, sleep or wake, I get a very loud POP thru the speakers.I contacted Creative and they told me this is "normal" because Windows 7 is polling the USB input to see if there is anything connected. This doesn't sound right, because it happens when I shutdown or sleep, too! Why would Windows poll a usb input while shutting down or going to sleep?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer gets at least ONCE BSOD every time I turn it on after a long period of shutdown. It also sometimes randomly just shuts off or give me additional BSODs. It has got to the point that I can't even load to windows recently, which lead me to reformat my computer. I know the drivers here are not the latest ones, I am trying to use only the drivers from the CDs that came with the hardwares because the last time I used all the latest ones it still caused BSODs. I am not sure what other information I need to post up.

For example: on my iPod, even with full brightness settings everything looks normal, but on my PC's monitor it just doesn't look right.I calibrated color and setting gamma way low really helped, but my contrast is set to full, and my brightness is 75.The strange thing: when I ran Crysis 1, it fixed the monitor color! So I know the darn thing is capable, I just don't know how to.When I closed down Crysis it went back to normal.

I have never had this problem before with my monitor. I knew it had to be a seven feature.. Yet I can't disable it... I've tried hardware device options and power saving options... This is a stupid feature... Why would you want to Dim the screen on an already dark image....I cannot play certain games because it gets way to dark to see anything.

I set up two monitors and have them set to extend. Everything has been great up until about a few days ago. One morning I turned the PC on and my 2nd display was totally black. It was turned on and Windows was detecting it but I couldn't see anything. I drug a tab from Firefox over to the monitor and dropped it and the screen started flickering and eventually came on. Everything was cool for the next two days.
A few days later, it happened again. This time, I could faintly see that the screen was on just very dark because I could see the outlines of the Firefox window I drug over there. Now it happens every time I turn the PC on. It eventually stats flickering and comes on on it's own and stays on until I shut the PC off again.
I also can't even see the monitor's menu when I press the menu button on it. Does this sound like an issue somewhere in Windows, or just a failing monitor? It's a bunch of years old and was sitting in my basement for over a year until I built this new PC. I'm just curious because it worked fine for weeks after I started using it again.
my laptop's screen keeps going dark after being on for only a few seconds. When the screen goes dark, I have to move my mouse around to get the screen to come back on which it usually does. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 10 month old Acer 5820t laptop running win 7 home premium. About 6 weeks ago, the screen started going dark every few minutes and it has gotten worse. I can see the image faintly and by pressing the display brighten button can get it to come back or sometimes have to close and reopen lid it will come back. No external peripherals are connected. The Intel HD graphics card has the latest driver installed. The screen saver seems to work but the display will also go dark when the screeb saver is running.

Pretty much when I minimize or exit from a game I play called EVE Online, my LCD remains really dark. Kind of as if someone turned down the brightness really low on the LCD. I've figured out 2 workarounds but they aren't fixes.
I simply log out and log back in and the display brightens to its usual brilliance or I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and it has the same effect. But once I maximize the game and minimize again the screen darkens once more. Oh and in-game everything is perfect, it's only once I go to the desktop. Any ideas? I personally think its a something wrong with the refresh rate but I ahve no clue as to how to fix that.

During the day, if we leave the computer alone, screen goes black, after a while, fans turn off. Wireless mouse wakes it up just fine. Fans startup before the screen is completely ready to go. During the night, the screen is dark, but the fans almost never stop. Why?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using the system spec as shown in the signature. Both monitors are connected to a single ATI 6870HD. The Dell U2311H is connected to the card via minidisplay-display port while the LG M227WD is connected via the DVI cable. The problematic monitor is the monitor over the display port (Dell). The monitor goes black randomly, sometimes during I play games. Sometimes it goes black more than few seconds, and I get a message on the screen saying power down as there is no reception from the display port.
I have updated the latest drivers, but still this problem persists. A
