Computer On LAN With Shared Resources

Oct 24, 2012

I have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64-bit that struggles along to see the shared resources of other computers on the LAN even if the "Network discovery" and "Files and Printers Sharing" options of the "Advanced sharing settings" applet are enabled. In other words, if I click on Network in Windows Explorer, no computer on the LAN is displayed; whereas, if I write "\<ComputerName>" in the address bar, I can see with difficulty its shared resources.

This fact is in each account. I have no firewall active, I use the network of type "Work" and I do not use the homegroup feature. The operating systems on the target computers are Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64-bit and Windows XP Pro SP3. The computers have the same time. How can I check whether the SMB protocol is working properly?

Never Computer Can See Shared Files Or Directory

Nov 21, 2009

I have two computers, 1 running Windows 7 and 1 running Windows XP. We'll call them 7 and XP.

Never computer can see shared files or directory even through both have it turned on through the "Network ICON"

So here is the spin

If I type Computername on 7 I can see all my shared directory and files (with access to copy them over without a problem) Same on XP

I've even installed the printer that is on XP onto 7 (although it's can't seem to actually print at this time)

Based on the fact that I can type computer name and get access on both computers I would imagine all my settings are correcct... but like my spelling.. something must be off

Any ideas?

Both computers can access the internet

HomeGroup Folders Shared But Will Not Expand On Other Computer

Jul 8, 2011

I've placed two computers in a homegroup. Computer 1 can access Computer 2's shared folders, however, Computer 2 cannot access Computer 1's shared folders. When attempting to access the shared folders (with read/write permissions), I get the spinning wheel and then it just eventually says 1 item selected at the bottom of the explorer window and stops. The folders do not expand. They're on the same workgroup with no other computers, I read that they should be or something.

Wake A Computer On The Network To Use A Shared Printer?

Jun 19, 2012

I currently have a printer connected to a computer in my room (Canon Pixma iP4300 [USB]). I also have a computer in the office which is connected to the network via a wireless extender. I am a little short of space in my room and am looking at which peripherals I can move away without too much hassle - the printer is one such thing which has a relatively large footprint and would ideally be located in the office.I am fairly confident that with a little research I could set up the printer to be shared from the office PC (Vista Home Premium x32) to other computers on the network, which would be a more suitable location for it.However, one thing that occurs to me is that it would require the office PC to be on in oder for other machines to print. Currently the office PC is set to go to sleep after a period of inactivity [20~30 minutes]. My question is, would it be possible for other computers on the network to wake this machine in order to use the printer connected to it?

Grant Shared Permissions To A Single User From A Different Computer?

Jun 15, 2012

So I have just been setting up my new rig and, for several reasons, I was wanting to allow my desktop complete access to my laptop. However, I live in a very friendly household and my computer is in the main area. I allow other people to use the guest account on it all the time, but keep my own account with a password.

We also have many other computers on the same homegroup. I was wanting to allow just my account on my desktop complete access to some (or prefferably all) files on my laptop.

I tried going Local Disk (C Properties >> Sharing tab >> Advanced Sharing button >> 'Share this folder' checkbox >> Permissions button >> Add button

However when i had entered this I could not get my laptop to access any other locations that itself. It was there that I got stuck.

Cannot Access Shared Folders Or HomeGroup Shares On This Computer?

Nov 26, 2012

The HomeGroup shares have been a recurring issue that I haven't been able to solve, but the really perplexing one is the shared folder issue which just cropped up. Some of my shared folders still work, but e, g and h (music and video respectively) for some reason spit back "Access Denied" on all of the other computers in my house, this is in spite of the fact that Permissions on them are set to Full Control for Everyone. With regards to HomeGroup shares, they simply don't show up no matter what I do, I'd like to fix that one too, but I'm not sure what I can do to fix that.

Windows XP Computers Disconnect From Shared Drives On Windows 7 Computer

May 14, 2012

On this network there are three Windows 7 machines and two Windows XP machines. One of the Windows 7 machines is acting as a server providing all the other computers with shared folders that they network to via the "map network drive feature". The two Windows 7 machines connect to this central Windows 7 machine no problem. But the XP machines will sometimes lose connection to the network drives when accessed. They cannot see the network drives until the central Windows 7 computer is restarted. The other two Windows 7 machines have no problem connecting, even when the XP machines are having problems.

I found this article and wanted to check here to make sure it was applicable to my situation before I go ahead and muck around in the registry: Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost Problem is, the article says this: Quote: On a computer that runs one of the versions of Windows that is listed at the beginning of this article... There aren't any versions of Windows listed anywhere in the article, or none that I can find. In addition to that, it doesn't specify whether I'm supposed to be doing this on the server end or the client end. I would assume the client end but it's just another thing I want to make sure of before I go ahead and do it.

Windows 7 Computer Cannot Access Shared Files From Windows Vista?

Jan 18, 2012

I've been working with I.T. for years, and when I went to a client's last night to share a drive over the network so they can install a program on a secondworkstation and use the database on the original machine. Anyway, sharing this drive shouldn't have taken me more than five minutes. However, I'm encountering problems I've never seen before. The Win7 PC sees the Vista PC on the network, but not any of the shared drives. And when I try to explore the Vista PC from the Win7 PC, I get an errors: ""Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (Vista PC) is not responding."Both PCs are on the same network, obviously, AV software and Windows firewall disabled on both, Homegroup off on Win 7 machine, both machines on same workgroup "WORKGROUP," set with static local IPs/DNS, etc., and both able to access network resources and the internet. One thing I HAVE noticed, however, is that when exploring the network on the Vista PC, I can't see anything (including the Win7 machine,) except the Vista PC itself and the router.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Even the SFC on the Vista PC didn't find any issues. I've checked the services, and all that should be running are set to Auto, and are started and running. I've looked for hours online, trying every possible option I can find, to no avail. I'm completely stumped! Never in my years in IT have I encountered this.

More Resources To Programs

Oct 19, 2009

I'm running CCleaner on 'wipe free space' at the moment, and it's going to take at least two hours from my calculations. I've got a 1TB hard-disk, so understandably that's a lot of data to overwrite. The thing is that I looked at my resource monitor and it's only using 3% of the CPU and 31% of the total RAM.

I tried setting the process at a higher priority but Windows won't let me change system priorities. I've already spent hours trying to get my folder permissions set-up, and now this. Is there any way that I can get full control over the computer I payed for?

Alternatively, is there any other way that I can allow programs more resources without being hit with "Access Denied. Exterminate! Exterminate!"?

Windows 7 would be excellent were it not for the nannying.

System Is Running Low On Resources?

Jan 3, 2013

I shut the lid on my laptop when I went to the store. I have it customized to where it goes to sleep, plugged in or on AC power, when the lid is shut. I was gone for about twenty minutes. When I opened it, the three users popped up at the log in screen. One for my roommates, one for me, and the third is for my fingerprint, which uses a built-in validity sensor, software being HP SimplePass. Now, when I tried to log in, it gave me the following error message:"Your system is running low on resources. You can not log in as a new user. Please log in using an account that is already..." (I can't remember that last part of this final sentence.)I restarted my PC and everything is now as it should be.

So i will then have to log back in as me and close everything i left open so they can login.

There is no domain obviously since the windows fast switch user is being used.

Has anyone else had this issue or no how to resolve it?

Want To Remove Everything That's Clogging System Resources?

What I'd like to do is locate some piece of software on the Internet that would clean all the crap off my computer without specifically having to go through file by file to do it all myself.I could reformat, but then I would have to back up everything I want to keep. It's funny how I can reformat my computer, re-install the stuff I need, and then everything is working spectacularly again. Why is that?I basically want to remove everything that's clogging system resources, remove services that are installed on my computer but are not being used, or not needed, duplicate files that are just taking up system space, invalid, corrupt, duplicate entries within the Registry, etc... But I need to do that without harming my computer.

After the reinstall of Windows I am not able to set the proper resolution of my Dell 1909wf (widescreen monitor) the proper resolution of 1440x900, I am not able to select it.I have my monitor connected though VGA as that is the only connection on my computer. When I click on properties of the Intel 4 chipset, the error is: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.I have downloaded the drivers for the graphics card and for the chipset directly from Dell by entering the service tag and have rebooted my computer several times with no success. I have even had Windows search for the latest update and It says I have the latest driver installed.I also have a warning triangle on Intel (R) Management Engine Interface.
