Aug 29, 2012
I can't get get my Security Center, OR my firewall to work correctly. When I attempt to turn my firewall on, it just quits responding. When I go into my services.msc to see if any of them are there.
I Windows 7 Home Premium. My windows is getting the updates but when it says configuring windows it doesn't do it and says it failure to config and is reverting back.I also cannot turn on Windows Security Center.I appears something happened 8/15. I tried microsoft's fixes and system restore which hasn't fixed the problems.[CODE]
Recently I got a Antivirus Antispyware virus on my computer, I ran Rkill and then Malwarebytes and it found the virus and I removed it. However now my Windows 7 Security Center firewall and my McAfee firewall will not turn on. With my Windows 7 Security center, when I try and turn it on it prompts me with a message that says 'Action center cannot turn firewall on, turn windows firewall on manually' so I click on that and I click the recommended settings and it gives me a message saying 'Windows firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070422'. My McAfee fire wall will turn on for a second and then automatically turn off. I have tried many things and seeked for many solutions but so far none of them have worked.
The security centre service and the Windows Firewall are always on disabled status after each boot. The start-up type is Automatic for both of them but it won't stick after a boot has been placed.
Windows Security Center will not start, regardless of whether I'm in my regular account, or admin. I have tried fixing it based off some info I "researched" on-line, but it claims that my user account isn't the same as others using the same process....All of the others I have looked at in Services all say "Network Service", just like I tried setting the WSC to.
A flag is appearing in the bottom right corner on my laptop running windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version. On opening the action center by clicking on flag the message appears "Windows Security Center Service (Important) - The windows Security Center service is turned off" Next to this message is a button "Turn on now". When I click on the button gets an error message "windows security service can't be started". no details. checked my laptop for any virus, torjan, malware etc. using 3 different tools: McAfee, Windows malicious software removal tool, Malwarebytes No virus or suspecious programs try to start the security services manually using services.
I am experiencing issues with WMC in combination with Windows Firewall. With the FW turned on I cannot watch live TV and get an event viewer message "WMDRM-ND" Error. Turning Windows Firewall off resolves the problem. As I do not want to turn the FW on and off all the time I would like to know where I have to apply the relevant tweaks so I can watch TV with the FW on.Ideas anyone?
Can Windows 7 change the perception that Windows Firewall is security you use until you install protection that actually does something?
Like Rodney Dangerfield, Windows Firewall just don't get no respect. It didn't evolve appreciably in the transition from XP to Vista. It does its simple job well, but its lack of ambition makes it a punching bag for reviews of other, better personal firewalls. I can't tell you how many times I've written sentences along the lines of, "Sure, Product X stealths all your ports against hack attack, but heck, even Windows Firewall can do that." Good news: It looks as if Windows 7 will pull the firewall out of its slump. Some new features are visible and functional even in the pre-beta I've got running on my test system, and there's a tantalizing suggestion of more to come.
Hangin' with My HomeGroup
The firewall exists to protect your network, and Windows 7 starts by making it easier to configure that all-important home network. When users hit network problems, they curse the firewall—and they're often right to. Windows 7 addresses the problem by taking over home network setup and making sure the firewall doesn't interfere.
I got a virus (winupgro.exe). Afterwards, that program showed up in my task manager, but I was unable to end the process. I also got a notification that I would need to restart my computer in order to turn off UAC. Since I did not want to turn off UAC, I went back in, and turned the UAC back on. I then ran a virus scan with Norton. It didnt seem to find my virus, so I just shut down the computer.Winupgro.exe no longer shows up in task manager, but I cannot turn on Windows Security Center - getting the dialog box "The Windows Security Center service can't be started".Malwarebytes was able to find and remove it, but I still cannot open windows security center (after a restart).I used FreeCommander to run create md5 checksums. After searching the output file, I did not find any references to winupgro or its checksum string.

I did a normal registry scan and there were some errors and I clicked to fix them. Now Action Center doesn't show in the task bar...So I search for it and click on it and it tells me that Windows Security Center service is turned off...I click on the button to turn it on and it tell me that it cannot start...I've been searching online for a solution to my problem and I have seen other posts about people having a similar problem...Going to services doesn't work for me...I'm assuming that since Winutilities removes random HKEYs, that might be my problem...Now, how do i get these HKEYS back?

I just installed Windows 7 over my VISTA OS on my new Toshiba Notebook. Since I have only 3 GB of RAM I installed the 32 Bit Version of Windows 7...
VERY DISAPPOINTED immediately as I encountered 2 issues
1. McAfee Security Center is alerting me that software is Not Compatible....
2. Internet Explorer barely runs... and when I exit IE, there is no less than 30 second delay before the window closes... even if I have just opened IE and immediately close (meaning nothing has cached to be cleared)..
