Cannot Right-click Files In Libraries
Nov 2, 2010
I cannot right-click any file inside the Libraries folders or its subfolders. I can right-click the preview pane, the folders and the empty space inside the Libraries. But, I cannot right-click the files listed in it. I can also right-click files on desktop adn right-click the files in their actual location.
This is not my PC but my colleague's. So, I'm not very clear what happen before. According to her, she used to be able to right-click, but, later cannot. I've check another Windows 7 (same hardware, same OS) in the office and I can right-click the Libraries files.

This started a couple of weeks ago and it's driving me nuts. If I click the folder icon on the taskbar on my desktop, The libraries window opens fine, then if I click on documents or pictures, etc, that opens fine/quickly. BUT once the folder is open, if I right click on any of the pictures to get the menu for opening/sending the pic somewhere, etc, the little blue delay circle pops up for up to a minute. If I try to cancel it, it shuts the whole library page down, if I wait for a minute or two the menu will finally pop up and allow me to make a selection. The same thing happens over on the left side if I try to click the little arrows for the drop downs under the main folder headings, it takes forever and if I try to cancel it shuts it down. Same thing happens when I try to search for documents.

In the Windows Explorer, if I click on "Libraries" nothing shows up - it appears empty. However, if I search for a file I know to be in Libraries, I can find it via the search window. If I look at its location in the search, it certainly looks like the file is in the right location... I can even right-click on the file and" go to the location". When I do so, the window opens and is still empty. The location is, for example, LibrariesDocumentsMy Documents.
If I navigate up one level to "Documents" by clicking on it in the address bar, this too is empty, even though clearly there was "My Documents" there just a second ago.
I think the problem happened when I tried to view hidden files in the Libraries folder.

When I try to save a file - any type of file from either Firefox or IE by right clicking and selecting "save link as" or save image as" etc... and try to save it to a library I get "the specified module could not be found" I can save it if I browse to the "C" drive and navigate the tree - I also notice when the common file dialogue comes up for the libraries it shows how many locations the library has - but the window does not populate with the contents on that library - I have scoured the internet and just cant find a solution

I was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.

I can't make Windows explorer open MKV files with my default media player. I tried modifying KMPlayer's settings to associate MKV files with it, but had no effect. I tried:
- Right clicking a MKV file in an explorer window
- Choosing "Open with > Select default program" from the context menu
- In the opened "Open With" dialog box, browse to find kmplayer.exe, then select it
- Click OK to return the dialog box
- (At this step, I don't see kmplayer.exe is listed in the "Open With" dialog box)
- Click OK to exit the "Open With" dialog box
- To see that my media file is still opening with Windows Media Player
Why doesn't windows associate MKV files with my selected EXE file?

When I go to an album folder from my computer, highlight all the songs, then go to right-click and play. Problem: If I highlight more than 15 to play, instead of 'Open' (which opens MediaMonkey, as that's the program I've chosen for these types of files)...it says "Add to Windows Media Player list".

Since yesterday when I single click on an item it opens the item instead of selecting it.This is affecting Excel, e-mail, everything. I've already gone to; Start>folder options>General. I have tried to restore the defaults and have chosen double click to open and item/single to select and applied this setting (even though it was already selected). I continue to have the problem. I've also already tried a different mouse.

Today I came across the following problem and tried to google for an answer, but without luck. In windows explorer, if I select files with different extensions (for example two files, one txt and one pdf) and right click to bring up the context menu, I noticed that the entry "Open" is missing. Instead if I select files with the same extension, the entry "open" is correctly displayed. What I want to do is to get the "open" command in the context menu even if I select files of different type. Is there a way to do that without having to write my own shell extension handler?

I have a simple batch file to load multiple files with one click, but it's not working.
When I run it, it simply very quickly pops up the cmd dialog, which quickly disappears, and nothing is loaded.
I've tried 'running as administrator' - same problem.
File is xxxxx.bat
I've even tried the fail safe:
start /d C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe
and that doesn't work, so it's not a error in my paths... for some reason, it just won't load...
Worked in XP fine...
Is there a different technique in 7?
Basically, end result, want to open two programs with one click (one icon on taskbar).

I visit these forums alot, and ran a search just incase, yet was not able to find this anywhere. It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.

Windows 7 synaptics left click acts like right click after reboot and the right click doesn't work at all. I've downloaded the most recent driver & searched for a solution online but haven't found anyone who has fixed this issue. Did everyone just give up or am I not patient enough & haven't dug deep enough. If I use a USB mouse there are no problems it just seems to be with the built-in after I've used the USB mouse.

I'm trying to fix my friends computer and I'm having some issues. There was a nasty virus on it that I managed to get rid of, but now programs won't run unless I first right click and click "Run as Administrator". Shortcuts also won't work (I assume for the same reason.) Does anyone know of a fix for this so we don't have to constantly click "Run as Administrator"? By the way, there is only one user on the computer and it is an administrator.

In this tutorial, you'll learn about a powerful new feature of Windows 7, namely libraries. Libraries let you view files on your computer from a content centric rather than location centric perspective. When sifting through vast amounts of files, libraries can be very useful. You'll see what we mean when you watch the video.

Something went wrong with my computer, and all of my Libraries (including MyDocuments, Pictures, etc.) are gone. I received several error messages (which I cannot recall) while doing a Virus Scan, and when I restarted my computer they were gone, and most of my program folders were empty. When I go to the Libraries tab, there is simply nothing there, and all of my files are missing.I did a system restore to a month ago, when everything was fine (and it brought back all of my programs), and they are still gone.I was able to access some of them via the Recent Documents in my Microsoft Word Starter, but not all of them.

My hard drive is partitioned with my C: having 679 GB and my D: having 698 GB. I'd like for files (word, mp3, jpg etc.) to be in D: and to keep program files in C:. So how do I move the 'Libraries' directory from C: to D:? Can it be remapped or do I need to copy/paste everything over and make a new Library in D?

I have two idential laptop hard drives, C and E, and one ESATA backup, F. On Saturdays, I copy C to E, and on Sunday, I copy E to F.
That way I have three idential SATA hard drives and can boot to any of them.
[this is my own backup method]
I have just placed a file in C Libraries, then opened Explorer to E and then to F. All three drives show that new file in the Library at the top of the menu.
I would have thought the Libraries remain with the drive. No? Where do they reside?

Running Windows 7 Home Premium. I set up an SSH server and I can SFTP to it. The SFTP client automatically connects to my user directory. I have my music on drive D: so I added that to the My Music library. However, when I SFTP to my machine, the My Music directory shows as empty. I can change to drive D: and get to the music, but it would be nice to just click the My Music directory to see my music. How can I show included libraries remotely with SSH on Windows 7?

I have 3 desktops with W7 and I successfully set up the homegroup with all three turned on and running. On each computer, I selected all the boxes to share all libraries. However, when I go to the Libraries window and look under Network, I see each computer, BUT, I am finding that only some of the libraries show up, not all. I shut down and restart the computers as I use them. Nothing changes on restarts.

I somehow managed to rename the libraries as well as the 'Favorites' about half a year ago.I don't recall how, but remember that it took a lot of trial and error. It worked perfectly and consistently in the start menu and the window manager. Now, with the latest update (13 important) it all got changed back, and keeps so despite my effort to regain my version. How can I rename those again, or what was the update that reset MS defaults and how to kill it?
