Single Mouse Click Is Opening Files Instead Of Selecting?

Since yesterday when I single click on an item it opens the item instead of selecting it.This is affecting Excel, e-mail, everything. I've already gone to; Start>folder options>General. I have tried to restore the defaults and have chosen double click to open and item/single to select and applied this setting (even though it was already selected). I continue to have the problem. I've also already tried a different mouse.

when i single click my mouse will be picky, its a 120 dollar mouse so it shouldnt be this picky, i have been noticing lately that my os has been being effected by games and programs like audacity, i change mic volume, it changes my mic volume PERMINANTLY, i change speaker volume, same thing, i have to go back to the program i changed it in and change it back, well now my mouse is double clicking for no reason when i sing click, this may be part of the reason.

I recently purchased a Dell laptop with Win 7 Home Prem. installed. I've been unable to discover if you can set it up to open files, etc. with a single as opposed to double-click of the mouse. I remember for sure that you could do this with Win XP.

WLM opens emails with a single click rather than just selecting the email. The boxes selecting double click to open are checked. This box is in the folders section and may be for folders ouyside of WLM. I want single click to select and double click to open emails.

my Synaptics touchpad mouse has had a mind of its own. It has been clicking and opening files without me pressing the mouse buttons or tapping the touchpad,scrolling by itself, highlighting and moving the files on my desktop and in my computer, etc.I have tried everything from physically cleaning the Touchpad thoroughly, updating the Synaptics driver time and time again only to find no resolution to this issue, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled previous versions of the synaptics drivers that worked before with my laptop only to be confronted with this same problem.I have ran scans on both Uni-blue registry booster and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which I use as my registry and anti-virus/spyware programs) and of which I update on a daily/weekly basis and yet I have found no traces of what may be causing my mouse to act so crazy.I have also ran the system scan in the command prompt which was suggested earlier in this thread only to find out that everything was running properly and at 100% integrity.
I have an HP dv7-3065dx Entertainment Notebook [pavilion dv7 is the product name on the back] that I purchased from Best buy in 2010. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit that was pre-installed onto my laptop. I have been pretty thorough on keeping all of my Microsoft and HP drivers up to date and have only began to experience this problem with my touchpad earlier this month. As far as the programs that I use on a daily basis; I mostly use Mozilla Firefox as a web browser and Microsoft Word for my schoolwork and the GOM media player for watching videos. None of which I have been able to do properly since this issue established itself onto my computer.

Does anyone know of a program that allows for you to single-click eject a USB hub and which will eject all the devices connected to it safely? As I understand you can set the policies of the individual devices such that you dont have to do the "Safe Eject" anyways. But Id like a way to just eject the hub instead of ejecting the 2 drives I have connected to it.

We are running an exchange 2003 server, with windows 7 machines (not ideal I know).
That aside, I am getting a scripting error when opening emails from a single user. This error ONLY appears on one users computer.So to clarify, this issue only pops up on one users computer, and only occurs when opening an email (even in preview) from another single user.
I have so far:
- Run a repair of office 2010 on the computer that displays the scripting error.
- Removed email signature from the senders computer, in case of problematic fonts (Even though to other users on the domain, this error does not occur when opening emails from this same sender.)

We have xen desktop in our office with win7 O.S installed. The issue is that all the files and folders opens on single click instead of double click. if i had 2 apps open, i could single click app 1's respective Taskbar icon to restore (minimize)/lose (set) focus. the aforementioned method would also minimize or maximize the app 1's window as the focus changed. further, if i launched app 2, app 2 would load in the foreground, immediately receive focus and i could use it right away. seems after a recent Windows Update, i lost the ability to use all the above methods. My current Taskbar properties are: Taskbar Tab - Lock the Taskbar, Use Small Icons and Autopeek all enabled Start Menu Tab - both Privacy settings enabled the steps below describes the current behavior starting with no apps open: i open app 1 (e.g., Firefox) and perform an app 1 activity next I open app 2 (e.g., Word) and app 2 loads in the background (as opposed to opening in the foreground and receiving the focus) i click on app 2's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 2 activity, however, app 2's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 2 doesn't receive the focus.to access app 2 i have to minimize app 1 using app 1's minimize button if i want to go back to app 1 i click on app 1's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 1 activity, however, app 1's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 1 doesn't receive the focus. to access app 1 i have to minimize app 2 using app 2's minimize button now clicking an app 1 or app 2 taskbar icons cause them to start flashing if app 2 has the focus, and i mouse over app 1 (when it doesn't have the focus) and click the preview of app 1, app 1's taskbar icon flashes, but the focus does not shift to app 1 - it remains with app 2. with 5 apps open, if i want access to app 2, i have to minimize app 1, 3, 4 and 5 using their respective minimize buttons to see/gain access app 2. as i mentioned, in the past, i only needed to single click any app's Taskbar icon once to lose focus (and minimize window) and transfer focus (and restore window) to another app or vice versa. call me weird, etc, but this greatly enhances my work productivity because i'm navigating to windows with virtual machines, remote desktop connections, etc. i even created a restore point where this behavior is working as i want it. if i restore and update, the behavior changes.

I'm using Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit in my Intel duel core 3 Ghz with Intel g41 express chipset, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 1 TB Hitachi internal HD. There are some movie files with different extensions or folders containing those files on selection of those files or folders or while trying to play those files my computer hangsinstantaneously and there remain no options except to restart my computer.Someone may say that I've virus in my computer but I can say that I've checked those files on other computer where it doesnt create any problem.

In Windows 7 I have no problem selecting multiple files in a normal folder for example. The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?

I'm being trying to figure out some funny mouse happenings to see what program might be causing the problem.
Sometimes when I attempt to select several words in a sentence the high lite stops during the drag operation and thhe edit box appears. I might try this several times before it finally works correctly. Other times the edit box appears when I select a Bookmark in FireFox. I just now hit Enter and the FF file menu box appeared.

I have a recent installation of Windows 7 Professional 3 weeks ago.The past 2 days, Word 2007 will not open when i double click a .docx document from Explorer.For a couple of seconds a 'spinning wheel' is displayed...and then nothing.I went to Control Panel, Defaults, and checked the Application for .docx and it is Word.The strange thing is that sometimes it does work.I am clicking very fast And Windows 7 does display the spinning wheel for a second or two.

You normally left click to access something on the internet but all of the sudden my computer won't do that. I have to right click then go up to click on OPEN and then it works. Using windows 7 pro and this just started over the weekend. How do I get it back to left click to open?

Usually when using an internet browser (firefox or internet explorer) and windows explorer windows, I try to click to switch tabs and it doesn't respond. It shows (Not Responding) for a split second and won't switch tabs. I end up having to click a whole bunch of times before it switches.
This same kind of thing happens with explorer windows when trying to restore them from the minimized state. It just won't respond and multiple clicks are needed before seeing any action. This has been happening for awhile now but I figure it just may be another bug

I have the same problem with my Windows 7 PC and a Logitech trackball. This seemed to start with the most recent Windows updates for Window 7. I doubt that Microsoft gives a crap about our problem.

i've been having a problem with my mouse, it clicks just once in a while, and, sometimes, it gets better with one window (program) but when I change to another program or desktop, it stops clicking again. It begun out of nowhere about 3 days ago. I run my pc on windows 7, I tried changing the usb port, the mouse and it doesn't work. What does help is doing a ctrl+alt+del, starting task manager and returning to windows, then, I can click on a single program and it begins to work (the mouse clicks) with it. Typing alt+tab also helps sometimes.
My xbox controller and keyboard are functioning normally. I recently updated my kaspersky to the latest version, but I tried deactivating it but I had no luck with the mouse. I'm thinking about returning to a previous kaspersky version, first, then, if that doesn't help, reinstalling the windows.
Ah, another thing that might help: i have windows vista on the same PC, same HD and, when I logged in it to see if the problem persisted, gess what, yes, the same mouse problem. That made me think of a hardware problem, but on all usb ports is odd. Can anyone help?

I installed Windows 7 a few months ago, everything was working fine until a few days.
A while after the computer is on, i want to click anymore neither with my touch pad nor with my external usb mouse....
The cursor moves normally but left click and right click won't work. if i do CTRL ALT DEL and cancel it works again for a while and then starts again.
The weird part, is it's not alway for the whole screen, sometimes i cannot click windows, sometimes i cannot click the tasl bar, sometimes both...
I really can't seem to find an answer to this problem, i've been thinking it might be a problem of screen refresh as the CTRL ALT DEL solves it for a few minutes, but I'm not sure... Can someone here help me please?

My wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.
