I like to use keyboard shortcuts to start programs running. I assigned Ctrl+Alt+F to open Firefox (pinned to the Start Menu), but it would not work. I can use Ctrl+Shift+F and the shortcut works. Normally, I would assume that Ctrl+Alt+F conflicts with one already in use, but pressing that key combination, nothing happens. Is there a way to determine what keyboard shortcuts are assigned and which are available?
I encounter a problem recently. My keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+[left/right] arrow key doesn't work in any of my editors like: Microsoft word 2007; Microsoft wordpad; Open office writer and Abiword - I use this key combination for move between words in my word processors. Because of this problem is general in all of my editors I think this is not a software specific issue and belongs to my Win 7.
When I took over a PC used by my predecessor, he had Win 7 (MS keyboard) set up so that the Windows key to the right of the space bar and Alt key will dump "http://www." into any open text field. This saves me a lot of time on a repetitive task with our software. However, when I asked one of our best developers how I could assign "mailto:" to another key, he had no idea how the existing functionality was set up. Googling "Windows 7 hotkeys" didn't find me any tips. What to do?
As title says my ctrl tab is not working. Have tried different keyboard & that didn't work. Running windows 7 Recently update Skype but read it could have been that so uninstalled and loaded older version - same with Kodak printer I am now back to June restore when everything was working...
FYI - OSK (on-screen keyboard) works fine & I have also uninstalled keyboard and reinstalled but nothing is working
I have a bunch of useless keys on my keyboard that i dont use for anything. Is there a way i can set just those to run a program without using the annoying ctrl + alt combo?EX: i want to be able just to hit page up or page down or even pause/break to bring up the calculator or any program i set.
I recently bought a new wireless keyboard to replace my Dell AT102w (I know I know, replacing a mechanical beast with a tiny chiclet, but it's necessary due to recent space issues). For some reason the CTRL doesn't seem to work at all, there are two CTRL's as you'd expect and neither of them seem to register within windows I can't see both of them not working, seems like to much of a coincidence. Here is the keyboard layout:
I've tried reinstalling drivers by removing the little dongle and putting it in a different USB but it doesn't help. What is strange is the keyboard has an FN key but no keys to use in conjunction with it.
I cannot use the CTRL and W keys on my keyboard. I have gone through all of the regular uninstall the keyboard and all associated drivers with the computer and none of it has worked. I am using the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000.The batteries have also been changed with new ones and that did not fix it. I have also done a Windows Restore to a previous time when it did work and that did not help. I have no other keyboards to test with at this time either.
Alright, so recently I upgraded my windows vista laptop to windows 7 ultimate.Everything ran smoothly, except for now when I type, it will randomly act as if I am holding ctrl for short bursts, opening new tabs, windows, closing the browser, opening the find window, bookmarks window, etcIt never did this before I installed windows 7, and I checked to make sure my drivers are up to date, which they are. I've googled and tried many solutions, but none of them have worked. I am running windows 7 ultimate 34 bit on a Toshiba laptop, but that's all I really know.
I have a microsoft keyboard with multimedia keys. I have assigned one of the multimedia keys to the Instant Viewer feature from Intellitype Pro. I like this feature and think it would be more useful to put it on the mouse button but I have searched and cannot find any .exe for the Instant Viewer to create a program shortcut. I was thinking I could get around this by creating a shortcut to the multimedia key instead and then assigning that shortcut to the mouse. This is not the same as pressing Alt + Tab or Ctrl + Alt + Tab. The Intellitype Instant viewer covers the whole screen when activated while Alt + Tab just gives you a thin horizontal strip in the middle.
I assigned a new shortcut on desktop to shutdown my pc and assigned a keyboad shortcut ctrl + alt + f12. The shortcut always works properly if i double click on the shortcut icon but doesn't always work when pressing ctrl+alt+f12. Can someone explain why is this happening ?
I was wondering if it was possible to modify one of the Windows shortcuts that comes with the program. I haven't been able to find a good answer yet. Basically I just wanted to switch the commands ctrl+N and ctrl+shift+N in Explorer. Is this possible
I want to program a keyboard shortcut for the "Next desktop background" option. I do not want to use a 3rd party wallpaper changer app..The registry keys for desktop background slide show settings are: [code]
I would love it, if I could assign a button to my keyboard that would take the currently highlighted window, and move to it screen 1, 2 or 3 in it's exact current size and position..
Anyone know if that is possible? I know you can move them 1 screen at a time, but I'd like to be able to just hit a single key or shortcut.
First af all, hi all, i'm new to the forum. I found it out couse i'm using windows 7 right now (well, i haven't any particular file on my desktop so nothing to loose) and i'm searching a few things to improve my (till now really good) experience with this os.
Now the little problem: i'm searching for a keyboard shortcut to switch through windows with aero peek (x-ray vision) just like i do with flip3d, is that possible?
The only thing i found near to what i'm searching is the shortcut to switch through active elements that is like moving the mouse over icons of pinned-apps, that is not the same.
Aero peek has many useful features but, compared to my standard work, it takes me too long to move mouse on an icon, wait for preview to show, than move again mouse on previews of different windows of the same app.
I'm trying to find out if there is a keyboard shortcut to move focus to the Address toolbar when it is added to the taskbar. (Again, this is the address bar in the taskbar, not the address bar in an explorer or browser window for which ALT+D is the shortcut.) I've searched Microsoft's list of Keyboard shortcuts, but did not find any information. And my Google searches have not found anything.
How do "I accept the license terms" with a keyboard stroke 'cause usually you normally have to click it with a mouse to tick it but I only have a keyboard (no mouse) and I need to install windows 7
I've searched everywhere, including (when you click F1) in windows 7. I need a keyboard shortcut for increasing and decreasing volume, and I don't mean when playing a video or something, I mean the "general" one. (Not in Media Player)
Anybody know a native keyboard shortcut that will hide/unhide the Navigation Pane in Explorer? Something like how Alt + P works to hide/unhide the Preview Pane?I have a netbook and sometimes I need more horizontal space so its nice to hide the navigation pane temporarily.
I enabled PC Tablet Support in the windows features section of windows 7, but i still can't get windows to pop up that on screen keyboard icon that usually displays next to any type of data input fields. My windows is NOT installed on a tablet pc, but i recently connected a touch screen to my desktop and am hoping to get the same sort of functionality like my tablet edition of xp had.
With all the keyboard shortcuts available in Win 7, isn't there one to put the computer to sleep?
The system came with a discontinued mouse/keyboard business set. The keyboard had a "sleep" key. Alas, this keyboard was not liquid-proof and a cup of tea ended its brief career as my favorite keyboard. The new MS keyboards seem to have every key EXCEPT the "sleep" key.
My C: and a couple of other partitions come up fine, but some are missing.I go into Disk Management to assign a drive letter to these parititions but I get an error."The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up to date. Refresh the view using the Refresh Task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management, or restart the computer."I've tried refreshing and restarting with no luck.I went into Vista and it shows the same thing, unassigned drives and no luck assigning a letter.
Since WinXP I have a problem when I want to re-assign a file extension to another application (=the program which should be used when double clicking on a certain file in WinExplorer). This problem appears particularly when the old, current application is NOT existing any more! [code] So again is there a real easy way/tool of re-assigning file extension to new programs regardless of what crap stuff is currently existing in Registry for that file extension?
How would I go about assigning different ip addresses (static) to different programs? Ill give you an example of what I mean. There is a Popular game called Minecraft (I don't know if you have heard it before, but It might help if you do know about this game) but I am planing on hosting multiple minecraft servers on one server (machine). So how do I get more static ip addresses (on one machine) so I can host more than one server on one machine?
since minecraft uses the port : 25565 would I be able to host a website on the same static ip address as a minecraft server since websites use different ports?
Everytime when i type ip adress to a default gateway and try to save settings, ip address is not remembered. If i reopen ipv4 settings there is only IP address, mask and dns remembered, gateway fields are blank. Also in cmd if i type ipconfig /all, Windows IP Config, and Tunnel settings are shown , ethernet settings are not shown.
I tried with manual reset with netsh int ip reset C: esetlog.txt in cmd, but still the same problem.
How to setup the Network Internet Controller (NIC) to carry one IP that he receive from the DHCP and one Static IP of another subnet. In Windows XP Professional this was working perfectly with an registry modification.

Code: IPAddress = put you desired IP address SubnetMask = put you Mask here I done the same settings in Windows 7 but it does not work.
Is there a way to turn the screen off and on with different shortcuts?
For example, have Shift + F7 [☀] turn off the screen but use Shift + F8 [☼] to only power on the screen (because any key or mouse movement can turn the screen back on).
My windows 7 installation won't assign a drive letter to disc drives and manually trying in the device manager doesn't work either. This is also the same for virtual and external drives, it doesn't assign a letter for either...
I tried the auto fix from Micro$oft but it didn't work: [URL]
