For this instance i'm going to use starcraft 2 that i now would like to move over to an SSD hard drive since there's a lot of loading in-game i would like to speed up.Must i uninstall, move over game folder, then reinstall the game on the SSD?

Any Way To Move Installed Programs To New External Hard Drive?

Oct 23, 2012

I'm about to get a 2 terabyte external hard drive and I would like to move all my user installed programs to it without uninstalling them and reinstalling to the new drive. My question is....1. Is it safe to drag and drop the program files from C: to the new drive, and 2. If it's not a good idea to perform a drag and drop is there another option?

How To Move Program Windows Uniformly

Jan 27, 2011

I use applications that involve multiple windows, specifically I thought of this while using MathCAD. A common example I can think of for a program like this is GIMP where all your toolbars are separate windows. I also use 2 monitors to work on. So is there a way in general that when I move a main program windows from one monitor to another all the other windows controlled by that program (guess I will call them slave windows) will come with it and maintain their position relative to the main program window?Alternately is there a way to select multiple windows at one time so when I move them they all move uniformly relative to one another. I just really hate having to move 6 windows sometimes when I want to swap monitors with one program.

How To Move Program Files / Folders To HDD

Aug 25, 2011

I recently built a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I use an SSD as a boot drive and an HDD for storage. Since the Windows installation I have installed several other programs in both the "Program Files" and the "Program Files (x86)" folders. I'm running out of space on my SSD and I'd like to move both Program Files folders to the HDD. It would also be nice to have the option of only moving some programs to the HDD and leaving some on the SSD if that's possible.

Move A System Tray Program To The Taskbar?

Jul 6, 2012

What I'd like is for a program that normally appears in the system tray to show in the taskbar at all times it is running so i can easily see it and use the exit functions etc.Specifically for Steam - (X) minimizes to system tray and hides activity in the task bar. I don't mind if this results in 2 icons showing (1 for an active window and 1 for the process) I know you can do the same from system tray for this particular program, but I just don't have the habit to look there for anything other than system background applications.'m running Windows 7 Professional x64 and am comfortable tinkering with registry and system files if needed. So the questions are:1/ Can a system tray icon be permanently moved to the taskbar applications area?2/ If not, can a background process be assigned a taskbar icon when active?

Program To Automatically Move Files As Created By Fraps?

Aug 6, 2012

I plan to record PC gameplay using Fraps, which creates very large files. In order for me to do so whilst still maintaining high FPS in game, I have to record to my SSD. However, this fills up very quickly.make a program that automatically moves the recordings over to the HDD as they are created. Fraps has an option to split the recording up into 4GB segments, so what the program will need to do is detect when the second section has been created, then move the first across, then detect when the third has been created and move the second across etc.

Can't Run Installed Program Within Program Files

Feb 15, 2012

I gave a try to the Setup Project of VStudio 2008 to create and distribute an x86 installer of a program I develop in Windows 7. After installing, uninstalling and executing over and over some of the features of my release distribution, I suppose I broke a windows registry or something related. I can't run anymore this app, whether from executing from the shortcut or directly, it just sends an error "Couldn't start the application correctly (0xe06d7363). Accept to close", there is no other option. Later I found out that moving exactly the installed content somewhere else out side the Program Files x86 dir, the application works flawlessly. Browsing, finding and deleting all references in regedit for my program didn't fix anything. I double checked my project is fine, and also created another installer version using the tool Inno setup producing exactly the same behavior; good install, error message when executing it inside the Program Files folder. Am clueless what else to do with the OS to fix this. Using CCleaner and/or my anti virus don't show any broken reference to my program, it seems clean. Can anyone help me?

Installed SSD. Move "System Reserved" To SSD And Make SSD Boot?

Jan 4, 2012

I recently installed a SSD into my setup. I didn't have a Windows 7 64bit disk, so I booted into the HDD's OS and installed via .iso (I didn't want to burn it, as that always seems to fail.I wanted to get the System Restore partition installed on the SSD, so I tried booting to a Win 32bit disk and formatting the drive that way. Problem is, the System Restore is not recognized as such, and was visible so I ended up deleting it

that works fine, except I now have this:
Disk0: Hard drive
Disk1: SSD
Disk2: Irrelevant

1. Can I move the System Restore Partition to the SSD?

2. How can I make this boot off of the SSD? It currently boots off of the System restore on the HDD

3. The drive letters are screwed up, but whenever I try to change the SSD's drive letter it says "the parameter is incorrect", no matter which drive letter I choose.

Programs Installed In E:\Program Files Run As X32

Jun 23, 2012

Half a year ago my laptop's hard disk's clusters began to fail, so I finally had to change it with a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB - 7200rpm (WD7500BPKT).
When reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium x64, I decided to dedicate the C:\ unit to the OS "only", and E:\ to programs and files of all sorts.

I've then installed all of my programs by sending them to their respective folders, E:\Program Files and E:\Program Files (x86) . But I'm now noticing all of them are running in x32 mode! The only programs running in x64 are those forcedly installed into the C:\Program Files folder (which my Italian OS calls C:\Programmi, although program installers install into C:\Program Files).

Is it that Windows isn't recognizing any Program Files folders but the default ones in C:\?

Can't Copy Or Move Files - Error Message "open In Other Program"?

Dec 29, 2011

When moving or renaming files I frequently get an error messages informing me that "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". This typically happens with the second or third folder I try to rename or move. Navigating away to another folder and then coming back or closing explorer and reopening it usually helps but on the second rename or move I'm back to square one. I've been reading and searching on the forum and this is what I have tried so far:stop the windows media player network sharing servicepause indexingtemporarily disable antivirus softwareused the system file checker to check integrityall to no avail. This is without a doubt the most annoying "bug" I have run into so far as it makes it virtually impossible to get anything done or organised. Has anyone found a real solution to this problem that does not involve manually unlocking every single folder before working with it (using 3rd party software

Allow Installed Program To Rename Files Under Program Files (x86)

Jun 18, 2012

I have a program installed under "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWName". When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say FROM "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.abc TO "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.xyz

The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.

It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameNewName".

why this particular Windows 7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?
