I am setting up 2 users on a fresh windows install. I am setting up the desktop in a specific way, with specific icons in specific locations. Once I set up 1 user, can the desktop be duplicated for the 2nd user so that it looks exactly the same, and thus save me the time of re-laying out the desktop for the second user?
This morning I was arranging my desktop files and folders. As I clicked the command to sort by item type, suddenly I had duplicates of every file and folder as listed on my desktop. I even had two icons for the recycle bin! I started moving one of each of the duplicated files and folders into one of the duplicated recycle bins.
I rearranged the files and folders. I then emptied one of the recycle bins. I then clicked on the desktop to rearrange the files and folders. Suddenly almost everything else on my desktop disappeared! There were many files and folder on the desktop that are now gone, there are only 7 files and folders left. Is there any way I can recover these missing files and folders.
Recently I was doing some tweaks with my Windows Media Player library settings and since then my some of my music files are duplicated.I have two two folders in my Music Library folder, 'Sample Songs' & 'Personal Tracks'. In 'Personal Tracks' I have many folders, including 'Downloads' and 'Concert Songs'.My WMP library wasn't showing the tracks from 'Downloads and 'Concert Songs', so I tried adding them. Somehow the songs got added to my WMP library, but the tracks from those two folders got duplicated in my Music Library folder. Now if I delete the duplicated tracks, even the original ones are deleted. I'm pretty sure that they aren't shortcuts as there is no arrow icon below them. Also the size of the Music Library folder is 3.49GB, but the size of the two folders inside it is 3.25GB, which pretty much clears it up that the duplicated songs are occupying lots of space, so they certainly cannot be shortcuts.
Music Library Folder = The directory named as 'Music' under libraries.WMP Library = Songs visible under the 'Music' tab of Windows Media Player?
A couple of days ago i noticed that my music file icons have the same thumbnail as the music file that is supposed to have the thumbnail as seen in this screenshot
I tried Disk Cleanup and CCleaner but both haven't fixed the problem. I had this problem before I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista.
I use win7. I sometimes find that duplicates of my files and folders are being made without my knowledge. Nothing nefarious, just plain weird. I'm the only one on me puter (home, no network) and I discovered this one day by a search result showing four copies of the same files with the same creation date, but in different places.
i used to save my files on the local disk D then one day i found the exact copies of my files located in the libraries.. i can see the same files on PICTURES, MUSIC, DOCUMENTS folders. all are the same! i tried to delete those files then this was happened.. my original files on local disk D was also deleted. now every time i make changes on D, it also happens on the other said folders.
my hard disk is getting full because of these duplicates
Just loaded up a yahoo video and it duplicated the video with 2 players in the same screen. I have been doing some system tweaks, is this just me or is that page messed up?
I have been receiving duplicated e-mails over 50,000. As it never stops the incomings, I can not send e-mails out. Please help me to solve this issuewWithout deleting my original e-mail address.
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
When I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop. But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?
recently i have a problem with my laptop, when restarting it loads normally but after a second desktop load something i dont know caused the desktop unclickable and the loading animation circle is still spinning, after about 2-3 minute it finished and my laptop works well as usual again (no slow), i wonder what makes that happen, sometimes its very annoying when we want to use the laptop immediately after restarting or turning on
It's strange, it's a recent problem, my desktop slideshow only works for the time setting of 3 minutes and below however whenever I go to the other time settings (5 minutes+) the slideshow stops. I've already checked my power settings and my slideshow settings are set to Available
Few days ago i am able to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop, but next morning i start my laptop i was unable to drag and drop any icon on desktop also file to desktop.I tried many method but all failed.
i using WIN 7 home premium X64bit HP 431 intel core i5 2gb ram also my setting in desktop/view/auto arrange is off in context menu the drag and drop setting is on
I've been looking around for something that can hide my desktop icons (or basically anything except my background & bottom navigation bar) if I'm not viewing the desktop. In other words, when I have a (not full screen) window open, I want to be able to see my desktop background but not the icons on it. When I "view" the desktop, or don't have anything on top of it, I want the icons back.
I have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.
I recently upgraded a Win-XP home system to Win-7 Home Premium. Everything went fine. But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.
I am encountering an interesting problem in which windows 7 shows either a software application and a bare desktop backgroup with no intereaction or the full desktop backgrouond with no applications shown only files, links etc.
my laptop are so slow...what im suppose to do just to makt it fast..and sometimes some of my application are mathematically run whether what kind of application i use?
For awhile now, there's been an odd icon on my desktop titled 'desktop'. It's a notepad save, and the contents are:[.ShellClassInfo]LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%system32shell32.dll,-21769IconResource=%SystemRoot%system32imageres.dll,-183
I was previously able to fix a recent problem with my computer about delayed write failed unfortunately my whole desktop is now gone, black. i am able to put icons back on but i had a bar that came out of the top of my screen and it is gone. All my previous icons are gone. I have tried changing some settings but nothing is working to fix the totally black screen.
every time I start up the PC the Windows32 CMD pops up and goes away after a split second. So I read earlier to use my Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Safety Scanner in safe mode and I did all of that which took a long while but they all failed to show any files that are causing this issue. I also read that I needed to use a program Hijack.
When I see the icons on my desktop, I have 2 'desktop.ini' files. I see that one is from my main user and another from the 'public' user. Is there anyway to tell Win7 NOT to show the desktop.ini files at all on the actual desktop? I see that it is a 'hidden' file, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
My windows 7 recently updated and now I'm having problems. I have read multiple forums about this problem but when I try what they say, nothing happens. It goes through its usual start up but right before it gets to the Windows logo it tells me that my files may be corrupted and gives a choice of repair mode (recommended) or start normally. If I start normally it goes to windows logo screen, waits for about a minute or two, then blue screens and restarts. If I safe mode it (along with multiple choices in the safe modes) it goes to windows logo and then blue screen restart. If I try repairing from hard drive it goes black then to a default background and doesn't do anything. I then try from disc. I try repairing it but it goes to a default background and then nothing. I then try to reinstall. That brings up a preparation background then stops.
I did find that when I play press the W, R, or Enter keys causes a reaction but to a small degree. I have tried almost everything. My hardware is fine and the bios says everything's fine. I have to hard drives, 1 is 1 TB, the other is 2 TB. 1 TB is Western Digital, 2TB is Itachi. The Itachi is my main one with OS. The western digital was my main but crashed. I try to take my Western out but the repair modes won't run right. I'm clueless at this point. Do I need a different windows 7 disc to try repair? Is there a special program I should try. Note: I cannot get to desktop and am posting this from a friends laptop
My elderly neighbor uses Windows7 on his computer. However, his desktop shows a blank colored screen (normal), but with a toolbar along the top of his screen with his normal desktop icons listed side-by-side in the toolbar (similar to how Yahoo Toolbar might look once online). His desktop icons aren't occupying any of the real estate on his desktop like all other computers I've seen. I can't drag the icons, or right click them to create desktop shortcuts. My friend wants his desktop to have these icons like most other computers do, that he can drag, create, arrange, etc. as the rest of the world does!
I'm able to see my wallpaper, but i cannot see any icons on my desktop. When I right click it nothing happens.but I can still right click my task bar. But when i go into my documents & click on the desktop button i can see everything on my desktop in that window.
How would I set up my xp desktop so that I can connect the desktop with an Ethernet cable to the Windows 7 laptop that has internet so that the xp desktop can go online?
white box floating on his desktop. When you click the box it shows a blinking typing cursor, but doesn't accept anything types.
When right clicking a menu pops up with the following options:
Undo (grey) Cut (grey) Copy (grey) Paste (grey) Delete (grey) Select All (grey) Right to left Reading order Show Unicode control characters Insert Unicode control character Close IME Reconversion (grey)
I haven't had much time to play with it but I don't see an obvious way to get rid of it and the box just appeared over the weekend.
