View 3 RepliesI've run across a weird error that is making me bang my head against the wall.. I am running windows professional x64
I cannot seem to start any x86 programs from their shortcuts, or exe files. The problem exists in both regular and safe mode. When I click the exe or shortcut, the process comes up in the task bar using a tiny amount of memory (~100K) and just sits there.
I CAN run any program from cmd using the start command (start path o.exe), and I also can run any x64 programs that I have installed. I have tried sfc /scannnow and chkdsk /r.
Also, if I add a program to the startup list (registry or startup folder) it starts up fine on boot.
My computer recently prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, it erased all the files and programs on it. I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy windows wont start up at all. My computer starts up and then a window comes uo and says that the bdgue files are compressed, then it says push ctl+alt+delete to restart. I do that and it goes back to the same window. Is there any way to fix this without installing windows 7 again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo basically whenever I search a word on Windows Start Search bar, all my emails that associate with that word show up as a file, many that are supposed to be deemed private and confidential to me...... I tried to delete it but it wont let me so I was wondering if anyone has the same problem or knows how to fix this.... Been stressing over it for so long
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to customize my start menu search. In Vista, I just told the indexing service to search only in the start menu folder, and monitored the folder myself (added and removed shortcuts as I wish). It was great, and it replaced Launchy very comfortably. I made shortcuts to folder locations on my computer for very quick access (Start+mus+enter would open my music folder, etc.)
In Windows 7, the shortcuts to folders will fall under the "files" category (instead of the programs category), which takes about 4-5 seconds just to show up, even though my whole index (just the start menu folder) is only 73 items (shortcuts), and pressing enter would open up the 'See more results', instead of the first entry. Basically, the start search looks at program shortcuts first, and considers other shortcuts to be normal files. Is there anyway to make the start search consider all shortcuts like program shortcuts?
BTW, if anyone can tell me why I can't edit my sig with WYSIWYG or with tags (as you could in Vistax64 forums), I'd appreciate it a lot.
Just recently I have found that typing a program name into the start menu no longer returns the programs that match. I tried to install a hotfix which didn't work (update not applicable to my computer). I've seen other posts about deleting a registry key, but I don't have that registry key in the first place. I've also rebuilt the search index with no success
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I search for programs on the search function when you hit the windows button it only searches for files found on the same harddrive I installed Windows on (C: SSD 120GB). I have all my other files, pictures games movies etc on my E and F harddrive. However when I search for the names on the search bar nothing pops up, can I fix this somehow?
View 4 Replies View RelatedPlease correct me if im wrong but im sure the last time i used the search bit on the start button the i could see the location (path) of folders/files on the tooltip, but now i cant?
Did i imagine it or has something changed?
Its been happening ever since I installed Windows 7.
For example, When I click Start, type "CC" in the search box, the Start menu displays what I intend to start (CCleaner) but when I press enter I get this:
Its acting completely wierd!
On top of that, when I right click the entry, I get a menu which is expanded towards the left awkwardly.
I also recall that I have unchecked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties." in the properties of my Windows 7 boot drive.
And since the programs are installed there, I think the problem might be related.
I have checked it again but it dosen't have any effect!
Like my subject says, my comp won't start up and can't fix things automatically cause the Internet isnt hooked up. I'm worried that everything I have for school and music will be lost..

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.
When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a video card that used to boot up in windows 7 - but know this computer with a GeForce 9500GT video card boots up with the Vista boot up logo.I found out this was the video card because I have another card with another GeForce video.I took the swapped the video cards, and the indication changed. The original computer booted with the windows start up screen. And the test computer booted up with the vista boot up screen.
I was told by a local computer repair facility this had something to do with video drivers.I tried what the organization suggested and uninstalled all video drivers (I used generic Windows 7 Video Drivers). Then the organization recommended downloading the latest video drivers for the GeForce 9500GT.This video card has 512GBytes of memory. I did this. Then I was told to install the newly downloaded video drivers.I resrted the computer with the Vista login screen with windows 7 operating system, and the vista login screen was displayed.
Last night I was on my computer and then I shut it down. Today when I came home from work it keeps saying windows failed to start. I tried hitting f8 and loading to the last good configuration doesn't work, safe mode same thing, repairing nothing, so my last resort was my windows 7 cd. So I went into bios and made my configuration boot from cd/dvd popped it in and restarted, a black screen came up saying windows is loading files, then the windows 7 menu came up, picked my language, next, and first I tried repair my computer, I get the little circle meaning its loading for like 5 seconds them it does nothing, rebooted again but this time I chose, install and I've been on the setup is starting for like 20 min. And forgot to mention, when it boots seem like it does good then comes to the screen where it says windows failed and gives me two options repair our start normal, if I pick repair it just reboots and start normal takes me to like the pick your user screen but its just blank no users, so I can't even restore our access the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy dell n5030 laptop isnt getting past the windows start up screen. It boots up fine up to the part where the four balls become the windows logo, but then freezes there everytime. When i try to select the windows start up repair it blacks out the screen and I cant do anything.
I know its not a faulty hard drive because its newly fitted and this problem occured previously on a different hard drive aswell.
using windows 7, have a blue screen at start up issue, memory dump. Sadly the PC wont start so unable to try too much, it lets you select user, attempts to ,log onto the user then just goes to mthe blue screen and starts the cycle again. It will not start in safe mode either, basically the same result although sometimes it loads and you are in but when you try to do anything it goes to the blue screen again. I did get the error code (not always the same on the blue screen but this one comes up most time), "driver IRQL not less or equal"

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Ultimate (x64).I use the Asus Suite II supplied with my Asus Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 Motherboard (which I like for fan and temperature monitoring) Ai Suite II always loads BUT "on screen" it is messy during loading because a seemingly AI Suite bar sized white artefact appears top left of screen for 10- 20 seconds before disappearing when the AI suite icon appears in the notification tray. Sometimes a white square also appears temporarily.I have noted that if I exit Ai Suite II and reload via the Asus AI suite supplied Shortcut I never get these artefacts AND the suite loads instantaneously (I note however Asus uses AI Suite II.exe via the shortcut but via the Asus installed Task Schedule it open via "AsRoutineController.exe -open"I have also tried unloading AI Suite II and AsRoutineController.exe and loading AsRoutineController.exe and it too loads cleanly and almost instantaneously.
1) Why does Asus use the Task scheduler instead of loading via the normal Windows Startup procedures?
2) Could it be so each can be easily disabled if required) and is that the ONLY reason?
3) what is the -open switch in the command line?
4) Is there ANY good reason why I should not disable the AI Suite II in the Task Scheduler and add it the the Normal Windows Startup applications I use the Free version of Startup Delayer as it has served me wonderfully with my current Win 7 O/S (and my previous XP) in ensuring all desired Notification Tray Icons display EVERY time).
Today I PROVISIONALLY made the change and AI Suite II opens cleanly (as other Startup apps) without temporary white artefacts and with no noted side effects so far. I am nervous however, to make it permanent without advice from knowledgeable Seven Forums members on this subject
I have an Acer Aspire M5811 running Windows 7 - 64 bit. When I tried to start my pc tonight I ended up with just the desktop wallpaper with no icons or start menu.
I tried to reboot in safe mode but the pc became unresponsive. I also tried using the system restore disc but again nothing.
