I wish to make possible of removing swap file from my ram disk before pc goes into hibernation. Is it possible to make this without system restart? How to stop system using swap file without restart?
View 1 RepliesWhat do with the the swap file on my SSD. It's a new OCZ Agility 3 with updated firmware. I also have an older Crucial SSD where I'd like to implement the same strategy.I'm debating putting my swap file on the HD to get it off the SSD but I'd like the hard drives to spin down when not in use. One box will be a media center PC that will be always on and having hard drives constantly spinning seems like overkill.If I put a swap file on the HD, will that drive ever go into sleep mode? I'm guessing no. Right now, I'm leaning towards small swap file on the SSDs say (512 to 2048). It'll also be easier to deal with if I ever decided to swap out or rearrange the HDS.

With older versions of Windows I was told to put the swap file on another drive and to have the begining and ending sizes the same. Does this theory still hold true for W7? View 15 Replies View RelatedI lost a couple of parts of my Asus P7P55D Deluxe motherboard after a lightning storm. The board still works, but I lost the audio and the Ethernet ports. The closest replacement that I could get was the P7P55D-E deluxe (note the added -E). Lost the x4 PCI-E slot in that swap, but I'm not using it anymore. The system booted immediately with the new board and the old OS. But after I installed all of the drivers for that board in the Asus site, I lost the ability to safely remove SATA drives. Not only don't the internal drives show up, as they used to, but when I add a drive to one of my hotswap bays, it can't be stopped, either. The bays are attached to the southbridge ports, which have been set to AHCI mode.
My best guess is the Intel Rapid Storage Tech drivers. Installing these put an icon in my icon corral that continually informs me that the RST service is not started (even though Services shows it as running). I'm planning on falling back to my most recent OS backup, testing that I get the safe removal icon, and adding drivers one at a time until it goes away. Then blame the last driver.
I was in the process of compressing my C drive on my Dell Inspiron laptop. About 25% through I received the black screen stating a odd lettered file is compressed and to use ctrl-alt-del to restart. It won't restart and just loops. I do not have the original disk.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter my PC has been running for a certain amount of time (anywhere from a few hours to a few days) my folders no longer load/display the items inside correctly until I restart. I either get a completely blank folder where I know there are files, or I can see the files but the icons don't display. For instance, I am currently experiencing this, and in my "my documents" folder, some of the folder shortcuts show NO icon at all, just the blank placeholder and the text under it, and some just show a plain folder. When things are working correctly, each folder displays, usually showing media that is inside that folder or some type of specific icon.One thing that is common once this problem begins happening is the green loading bar that runs across the top of the folder window becomes slower the further to the right it goes, and never makes it all the way to the right. It slows and stops at about 95%.
This error is NOT present when I am looking at a folder through a program. For instance, if I go into Adobe Photoshop, then "Open," and then browse to My Documents, All of the foldrs in that "open" windows display correctly. Everything appears as normal in folders in this view, as opposed to nothing appearing if I open it in windows explorer.[URL]Finally here is a view of the FreeCorder folder where there ARE items stored, but nothing appears due to this error.Again, all i have to do is restart and everything will be fine again for a while. Then some magical trigger is executed (I have no idea what that trigger is) and things go funky like this.I DO put my computer on stand-by frequently, but that doesn't seem to be THE trigger, as it has come out of stand-by performing normally.
hat am I doing wrong? The code stops after explorer.exe is restarted. I know this because the command prompt does not show the echo "-explorer restarted". When I look at the command prompt, the cursor seems to be on the next line, but without the normal C:UsersJohnSmith> in front of it (there is nothing in front of the cursor).
Also, if I include the command "exit" at the end of my .bat file, it doesn't seem to work. Even though if I type in exit into command prompt, the window closes.
I have to boot twice for my display adapter to start. Im making a bat file in startup folder who does this operation for me, but i cant get further than starting device manager.

i just installed a new premium theme called hud apocalypse. i love the theme except it kinda erased my shutdown/restart/logoff/switchuser default from the start menu.I was able to write a batch file to shutdown. this is the code in the batch file c:windowssystem32shutdown -s -f -t 000..i've done a lot of google searches and alot of them say to restart via batch file and the command is Shutdown -r but this just shutsdown the computer and doesn't reboot.

I then tried to open it as Administrator without success. Deleting the file was impossible. It required administrative rights to delete the file. I then tried Data Shredder, Revo Uninstaller, Iobit Uninstaller, and Killbox, but none of these would delete it. Killbox said the file could not be found.

I cant play these files and cant get rid of them as i have tried deleting them to no avail. I have tried opening them with different players and to no avail. View 3 Replies View RelatedLess than a month ago I build a new rig, installed Windows 7 on my SSD and at a later time I attached my old 1TB large disk with still had XP installed on it.Windows is protecting this drive, all folders are flagged read only and I'm unable to remove the read only flag, each time I try, and check back after processing a job to un flag it, there still there.I'm able to delete files and folders after accepting the UAC popup, however, there are several folders I want to remove but am unable to, /Boot, /Documents & Settings, /Windows and some root system files, but windows doesn't let me.(I need to run programs with elevated rights in order to be able to modify those files) The /Boot is from an older Windows 7 install and it should be safe removing it, because I installed windows 7 on a SSD with out any other disks attached, so no dual boot stuff.But worst of all, many files are also flagged read only, along with my project files that I'm now unable to modify.What buttons do I need to press to get windows to understand he should not be protecting this disk and there ain't no windows installed on it so I can clean up get rid of those read only flags on the files

Since I installed Windows and all those HP apps (some of them apparently required to access BIOS) I got this shortcut on desktop and I cannot remove it. Deleting it manually does not work and the shortcut does not appear in User/Desktop or Public/Desktop folders. Right clicking it does not show the usual menu but this so I cannot get the location of the file. Also, the Remove Icon option does nothing not even in Safe Mode. How to get rid of this? Some suggested to reinstall the app however this also does not work.

After several minutes, I get the message: "Start-up Repair cannot this repair this computer automatically." When I click on "View problem details," everything looks fine except for "Root cause found: Boot critical file D:CI.dll is corrupt." This happens every time I try to restart the computer. I've tried System Restore and System Image Recovery to no avail.

I restarted, and in Windows, it's still configured like that, but in the center, it's the way I want it. And I know it's not configured right because when I record my desktop with FRAPS, it records like it's configured the Windows way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops that are identical...HP Compaq nw9440. I have a 100gig drive in LAPTOP#1, and a 750gig drive in LAPTOP#2. Both drives are running an identical Windows 7 Enterprise typical install. Can I put the 750gig drive in to LAPTOP#1? Can I create and save an NTBTLOG.txt file from each laptop (I.E. ntbtlog-LP1.txt) and select either one during the boot-up? The reason is LAPTOP#2 is not running very well. It has been dropped and I fear the motherboard may have a crack in it causing random boot problems. Sometimes the laptop doesn't even recognize the hard drive.
