When ever I try to open "my computer", it gets a green loading bar and only once in a blue moon will it actually show my drives. I've ran avg virus scan and it showed nothing, installed the latest updates for win 7, restarted the computer several times and nothing works.
BTW, the machine is less than a month old, running intel i5 2500k, and a radeon hd6950 video card.
All the shortcuts on my pc will not open.All of a sudden windowa photo viewer took over tham all. I can't even do a system restore and the shortcut for this won't open. I have tried to change the program using internet explorer too, and this won't work. How can I find the right file opener and where is it on my pc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Starter on HP Notebook and had IE7. IE wouldn't open when I clicked on the icon. Only opens in safe mode (with networking). I ran malware in normal and safe mode, nothing appears wrong. I ran latest updates and thought I had IE8, but no internet access for updates to work. IE still won't open in normal mode. In safe mode, I ran fixit, even reset internet, to no avail. I even ran regsvr32urlmon.dll and Shdocvw.dll without success.

This program was working until I encountered a small problem and was advised to uninstall the program and then re-install it. It did re-install but as mentioned in my opening statement the program will not open. All my other desktop icons open their respective programs.

The "My Computer" icon is missing from my desktop. It's also missing from the Administrator account and I can't get it show either on any new account that I create. I use here at home Windows Professional. All other icons from the Desktop Icon Settings windows work fine. (e.g.: Control panel, Network etc...). I know people will try to give the basic solutions so I will just say that I have done all the basic things like check "show on desktop", checking "My Computer" in Desktop icon setting window, viewshow desktop icons, refreshing the icon cache, using 3rd party software like Ultimate Windows Tweaker, using Godmode, and yes.... I restarted my computer. I bought this computer 2 months ago and it has been like this since I got it. I just dragged a shortcut out to the DT but it bugs me.

View 14 Replies View RelatedNo matter how I try to access the Icon Notification Area to customize hidden task bar icons, Win 7 freezes to a great extent. I am running 64 bit Win 7 SP1.
Under these conditions, when I put my pointer onto the task bar it changes into a hand with a pointing index finger. The Icon Notification Area will not show icons and all I get there is an interminable spinning blue circle.
The Task Manager will not correct this condition and I have to close my windows session manually with the power button. It seems something has been corrupted but I am at a loss. I have run chkdsk /f and sfc to no good effect.
I am running some 32 bit programs including MS Office Pro.
right click COMPUTER icon, MANAGE has SHIELD by it and will not launch
UAC (security) at lowest level.
CAN access through:
start>administrative tools>computer management
but still wondering why the shield and non launching the VISTA way
(right click 'computer' icon and select 'manage')
I added it to the desktop and the normal icon was used (picture of a PC). Now it's suddenly changed to the default windows explorer icon ! How to get the default icon back ? I tried removing it from desktop and adding it again, but did not work.

I used Windows Backup and saved it to my external hard drive. Now I have almost identical files and folders there and on the now visible Recovery drive. TBUH, when making the backup several options appeared and I checked one without being 110% sure it was right.
Did possibly I do something not right? What need I do to correct anything wrong, including which folders and files I may safely delete? What advice do I need for future?
