We immediately powered down and removed the battery, and placed the laptop upside down and mopped up the excess liquid from the outside as much as possible, and set it to dry upside down on a towel. My laptop is a Lenovo U330, I had my brother install Windows 7 on it for me last year, but he kept the disks so I don't have any of them.Several hours & some blowdrying later, we attempted to start up the laptop (I would have preferred to wait longer, but I needed to know if mine would work in case I needed to borrow my friend's for the week). The laptop will load the lenovo startup screen, and then flash the windows loadings screen (with the option to press f2 or f12) for a few seconds before recommending that I run startup repair. Which if I select it, will freeze after a few seconds. Usually my laptop's pretty noisy, but while the battery light flashes as if there is activity going on, there's no noise coming from it at all.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wife's laptop broke down a few months ago, and we wanted to get some files off of the hard drive. I grabbed an extra eSATA cable and connected it to an extra port on my desktop motherboard... without remembering to connect it to the power supply. Anyway, when I booted up the machine, I was unable to get past the BIOS, getting an error message "Keyboard Error or No Keyboard Present". Even after shutting down and removing the hard drive, I'm still getting this error message. We've tried a number of different keyboards and it's coming up the same every time.

I tried using the windows 7 cd to try a repair or cmd/chkdsk etc, but the OS wasn't found/listed. I also tried to do a clean install and the HD wasn't detected by windows 7 setup. I also tried booting up with ubuntu and the HD still wasn't detected. Can I assume this is a busted HD? Should I still shoot for a bootage diagnostic cd for the hard drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers,

I've done everything that has been in my power to do, from Disabling and uninstalling my nVidia graphics card driver to running a diagnostic with Avast! but nothing seems to work.I don't have a Windows 7 CD to repair the computer because I got a college student discount and downloaded it online. I also can SOMETIMES get into Safe Mode (when it happens is random, sometimes I get a black screen with my cursor present), but Safe mode with Networking has the same problem of not getting past that welcome screen.
My computer isn't frozen, as the mouse and the spinning circle are active. I'm not entirely sure what to do. I insert the DVD into the drive and it loads then shows the copyright warning and then the movie company that's made the movie - then it starts the video - an intro of sorts and it just keeps replaying the intro. It will not continue and play the DVD. It did play on my neighbors computer. And I even exchanged the DVD for another one of the same to see if the DVD was defective - same problem. I have three other DVD's that play fine.

My boys PC is running windows & and is stuck at Startup Repair, it runs, then comes up with "Sratup repair cannot repair this computor automatically" He did have that wonderful AV suite virus on there which i managed to get rid of, then this happened. A few people have said do a fresh install of W7 but he has loads of pics and music on there that i dont want to lose. Can i do an reinstall without losing data? ah, but, plum of the day award could go to me as the problem could be hidden in one of those files??OR do i take his HDD out and back up only the necessary files he wants to keep, then put it back and do a custom install from there?

But the blinking thing, (where you can type) id blinkying...however I can't even move my mouse cursor. Like its literally frozen. I restarted the computer, then pressed F8 continually. There came a series of options so that I could possibly get my compute to start working again.
- repair your computer Then a 'system recovery option' window opens up. There's 'system repair' <I did this, and it said that there was no problems> 'System restore', 'windows complete PC restore', 'windows memory diagnostic tool', 'command prompt', and TOSHIBA recovery wizard'. Yes it's a Toshiba laptop.
- safe mode
- safe mode with networking
- safe mode with command prompt
- enable boot logging
- enable low resolution video
- last known good configuration
- directory services restore mode
- debugging mode
- disable automatic restart on system failure
- disable driver signature enforcement
- start windows normally
I've done safe mode, last known good configuration and start windows normally.
I bought my laptop a few years ago and it had Windows 7 already installed on it, resolution was more than fine and probably higher than it is now. I installed Windows 7 again yesterday and the resolution is really bad and it bothers me a lot, you could say that I am desperate to find a way to get past 1024 x 768. I know it was higher before so the laptop CAN SURELY handle more than this limit. I tried everything on the Internet and nothing worked, even tried updating the video driver, but nothing. What can I do to get my resolution back/ the way it was/higher?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just finished installing Windows 7 on a Gateway 32-Bit Laptop. It was originally Windows Vista. As it starts up, It takes me to the System Recovery Options menu where I pick my OS. I choose Windows 7 and I am greeted with another window. I can choose to Startup Repair or System Restore, etc. I choose Startup Repair and after it is done, it says,
"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence."
Tried to start up the new build after it had been working for a few days and when I am loading Windows 7 64-bit, it will stop working at the GUI screen. Here's what I've tried to do ..
1. Use startup repair (won't get past that Windows screen).
2. Tried to startup with SSD as the main drive for a working computer, got a BSOD and quick restart following GUI boot.
3. Booting from CD drive, HDD, SSD separately. Disconnected each device to see how the computer would react and nothing was working.
4. I formatted the SSD on a different computer and then tried to install windows on the SSD with no other hard disk connected. Stalls at the GUI boot screen.

The problem I'm having is that whenever I boot up my computer, I can't make it past either the Welcome screen on the Windows login or past the actual Windows startup itself. I'll either get a black screen directly after the Welcome screen or my desktop will load, but I will find that if I click on anything, everything freezes up and I'm forced to restart. It has been intermittent at times, and I have actually had "good boots" where I could use my computer as if nothing was wrong... But that seems to be very random. This problem has been plaguing me for about 5 days now. And after much persistence, forum-browsing, and troubleshooting, I'm coming here to seek advice.
It all started when I uninstalled my ATI 12.2 video card Drivers and the ATI Catalyst Control Center. I intended to reboot my computer and install the new 12.3 drivers. The login/startup problems all started from there. I tried a multitude of things:
-restarting my computer.
-unplugging everything and plugging it back in (all the cables had worked flawlessly for over a month for moderate-heavy use per day)
-reseating my video card
-trying another video card in my computer
-in fact, an nvidia card, and had gotten the nvidia drivers (which are now totally uninstalled and swept clean with Driver Sweeper) to work, and had a couple good runs... But even then, it wasn't a for sure deal as the startups were sketchy then. and upon reinstalling the hd 7970 and new drivers, also a few good startups, but the problem persists.
-checked the bios to see if all my hardware was being detected properly
-checked for drivers for my motherboard
-checked ati's web site to make sure i got the right drivers
-used safe mode to do a LOT of troubleshooting, such as:
-scanned my computer with a complete scan with both avast and malwarebytes, and now also superantispyware. (found a few tracking cookies that were removed, but the bad startups still persist)
-ran system file checker tool and found no problems
-ran a chkdsk and came up with no errors
-uninstalled everything i installed that same day (two games)
-scanned the games setup files that i installed, thinking they were infected, came up clean.
-tried to uninstall the ATI drivers and attempt different fixes, but in safe mode, can't uninstall OR install ATI drivers, even with edits to the registry or via command prompts
-uninstalled the ATI drivers from the device manager and this seemed to help a little, but windows was still inconsistent
-used system restore to restore to a point BEFORE i uninstalled the drivers, but the problem persisted... That really threw me for a loop.
-the ONLY thing that worked, even momentarily, was when i tried Last Known Good Configuration after having installed the nvidia video card. it worked for a moment, but things were still loading slowly and wasnt standard operations. bad startups persisted soon after.
i've done lots of stuff to try to alleviate and see what the problem was... if i remember anything else i did, i'll let you know, but that's everything i can recall at this moment. for the first few days, i thought my computer instability was because of the ATI driver malfunction, which could be true... But now I'm thinking it's more because of an error lurking within either explorer.exe or the login process itself. because i could get sticky keys to pop up amidst the black screen of death earlier, and with zero input lag. got the sticky keys to pop up again when my desktop appeared on one semi-successful startup... but upon opening any folder, or clicking anything at all really, everything goes to *** and lags out till i have to restart. i want to avoid having to reinstall windows at all costs. i am not one for giving up unless ALL options are exhausted, and i feel i have yet to do that. I have a lot of information on my computer, most of my 2 tb are full of things. entertainment for the most part, but took a while collecting from various sources and dont want to have to rip them again and whatnot, as the hard copies are scattered about with friends.
i still cant get past the black trying to reboot windows installation cd but says no boot disk is detected and keyboard is not responding so i cant do anything its hp slimline desktop running windows 7
