My CPU usage (Intel i5) meter always reads just fine, usually around 5-10% during normal tasks. Well, after my computers been in sleep mode, and wakes up, it always shows that Core 3 is usually up around 50-60% and Core 1 around 20-30% or so... It never goes back down until a restart/shut down.Also, I own Driver Reviver, which suggested like 9 new driver updates for me, and I still have the problem.
View 8 RepliesThis has been going on for about a week now, where my physical memory spikes from a solid 20-30% to 90-96% and just makes my laptop completely unusuable. I currently have 4GB of RAM, so I KNOW it's not an issue with lack of memory. I've investigated this to the point where's it's really starting to drive me mad. I've been using VLC for a good 6 months and this happens all of a sudden, now I can't even use VLC in fear of slowing my laptop to a crawl. I've tried Malwarebytes, scanning for viruses (In safe mode and clean boot), re-installed VLC TWICE, updated everything I could think could be causing the issue, checked the resource monitor each time the spike occurs to see what service could be causing the issue, only to find nothing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my system when I wake it from sleeping. Before going to sleep everything is fine and working the way it should but after waking it from sleep my core 0 is fully pinned at 100%. It seems to only happen when putting the system to sleep.

for about 2 months now, every time my laptop does something involving graphics (usually playing games or watching a video on Internet, or anything involving flash), i'll notice that my cpu usage spikes to 100%, which causes slowdown, i.e.: gameplay/videos will be slow and choppy, sometimes freezing for a few seconds to a few minutes before resuming. it usually does this in intervals, i'll have a few seconds of normal gameplay/video and then the freezing. considering that this also happens when i play offline games, i'm suspected that it's my graphics card that is the culprit.for reference, i'm using an ati radeon hd 3200 graphics display adapter on my laptop. i've tried updating the driver not too long ago, which ended up installing the ati ccc, but the problem still persists. i haven't had this before and the games/videos used to work fine.looking in the task manager, i see that its the application that i'm running that's hogging the cpu (either firefox for Internet/flash or even stuff like tf2 and maplestory).
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor the last week or so, my network traffic has seemed to be related to some pretty sever spikes in my CPU usage. These spikes are causing extreme stuttering in my music playback, freezing of my cursor, and other symptoms of a really laggy computer. This pretty much occurs whenever I use the internet in any way. The worst spikes are when I'm loading webpages in Google Chrome and seeding on uTorrent, often freezing my cursor and music for several seconds at a time, though they're not limited to those two softwares. More recently, it seems that when I am loading pages in a browser, it's spiking CPU usage in bother the browser and even more so in the System process. It's becoming a real issue to use my computer.
On a side note, I've noticed that the displayed memory usage in the task manager (2.74 GB) is way more than what all the processes appear to add up to, usually by more than 1 GB.
I've been having this problem where my CPU is constantly hovering at around 30% usage, and after investigating with ProcessExplorer and Task Manager, I've found that the process responsible for most of it is the "System" process in system32 (the description says "NT Kernel & System"). Unfortunately, nothing seems to be able to pinpoint what exactly is causing this process to be using so much of my CPU. The reason this is so annoying though is that when the System process reaches 15% or higher CPU usage (which is does pretty frequently), any sounds my computer is playing stutter very obnoxiously. This makes it really unpleasant to listen to music or try to steam videos with sound while my CPU is constantly spiking. how to troubleshoot this or some common causes of these symptoms?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro x64 last week and I am already experiencing some issues. The most pressing is that I am experiencing stuttering after I have been using the computer for varying lengths of time. It can occur within a few minutes of first booting the computer or it can happen within hours. The time also varies depending on what I am doing, either normal internet use or gaming. I have updated all my chipset and hardware drivers and it was still occuring. So, I looked into it a bit more and found suggestions to run the xperf program to find my high CPU usage. It comes up with ntoskrnl.exe and USBPORT.SYS as causing the highest amount of usage. I also ran LatencyMon after seeing several suggestions for that program as well. It also comes up with ntoskrnl.exe as causing the highest amount of CPU usage. Aside from updating drivers, I have also tried reinstalling Windows a second time with no luck.

They last no more than 1 or 2 seconds, but they are incredibly annoying.For example, I will be typing, scrolling, clicking something, or watching something and it will completely freeze for 1 or 2 seconds, then suddenly jump to where the screen is supposed to be (like to the tab that SHOULD be showing if I clicked on a different tab during the lag spike) [code] Everything was fine. One day I restarted my PC (I usually set it to sleep at night, but this time I had to restart) and after that I noticed the lag spikes. The only significant thing between then and now is probably reinstalling TESIV Oblivion but I do not see that being an issue.These lag spikes are not related to my web browser, as they happen even when I do not use the internet. However I DO NOT GET ANY LAG SPIKES WHILE I AM PLAYING A GAME. When my PC is dedicated to running a game I do not get any lag spikes at all. They only happen on the desktop / internet.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFor some odd reason, whenever I play any game, it starts off crisp smooth and then maybe 10-20 minutes later it goes completely laggy and then about 20 minutes later, it goes back to smooth gameplay. Some instances of this is when I play Star Wars Battlefront 2, Battlefield 2, ArmA II, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. I have tried to set the game's priority to High but it does very little improvment and I have tried Game Booster aswell.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently started experiencing abnormally slow shutdowns (it will go to the windows login screen with the shutting down message and hang there for about ~5 minutes), and random freezes on my PC. The freezes happen from things as small as moving the mouse. I run a weekly virus scan, and have come up with no viruses, though it could be something not detected by my antivirus.
The PC is less then 2 years old.

Basically my problem is that i have an external sound card which doesn't have any drivers for Windows 7 (or Vista for that matter). I have been in touch with Mackie and they say that there are no plans to develop new drivers. Now I have gotten the basic features of the product to work by using Windows XP compatibility mode. However, i can't install the plug and play drivers which means that there are several features which I am still unable to use. Is there anything I can do to get these plug and play drivers to work? (apart from double booting with XP)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having is that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (from XP Ultimate) and the computer was working really slowly.
First I opened task manager and found only one CPU was being monitored, there was only one window for one CPU, not two windows with only one firing!
This I found strange, checked the WEI and my processor got a 2.3 rating (its a Core 2 Duo @ 1,83Mhz, a T5600), I then downloaded a tone of widgets to check if they could "see" the other core, nothing. I went into msconfig, the no. of processors box is unchecked, if I check it, the drop down menu only gives me the option of picking 1 CPU.

QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores.It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot.This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.
I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

Ever since i upgraded windows has only seen one core even though its a dual core system. The processor is a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20Ghz.
I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.
Is the dual CORE 2.8ghz good also for the windows 7 system?

If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. My Audiodg.exe process is currently using 2,786,070 kB (not just normal bytes, kilobytes) of Ram. 2.66gb+ of Ram! I have searched the web as well as this site for any problems. My audio is working fine though... I have no idea why this using so much ram. Im guessing a memory leak of some kind... I restartand it starts off at a normal pace...

Recording works fine if the PC is active ( not asleep ) but if I set up something to be recorded ( OTA channels only ) when I'm not around, using the WMC guide, it will not wake up the PC from sleep mode and record the program.
Everything I am able to find says that WMC WILL wake up the PC so I suspect it is some obscure setting buried 138 levels deep on some obscure panel path but I sure can't find it !!

Generic CDRom, Seagate HDDs mirrored, WD Primary HDD.
No GPU connected as she won't need one.
At first I tried a mild overclock at 4.4ghz and stability tested with P95 for a few hours with no errors at all. Everything worked fine!Come time for her to actually use it, of course, BSOD's ensued, followed by boot looping.Boot loop would not stop until one of the DIMMs was removed.Naturally I thought the RAM was the culprit and tested the sticks using Memtest86, 4 passes each with no errors.Next tried single sticks of RAM in each slot, booted up fine. Tried with two sticks (1&3, 2&4), and it seemed to work fine if booting from a clean shutdown (as opposed to BSOD).Reverted to default BIOS settings and it seemed to help a little, as in it would actually wake from Hibernate a few times, but then out of nowhere would BSOD again.I read somewhere that a bent cpu pin might do this, but since a single stick worked on each of the 4 slots, I think this can be ruled out.BIOS are upto date with latest 2.20 version as well.Right now the computer is working fine with only one stick of RAM, the last BSOD happened with two sticks in, opening up Photoshop and InDesign at the same time with stock BIOS settings.

So as some of you may remember, I had problems getting Windows to sleep before. Those got fixed and have been running fine for awhile now. Goes to sleep on its own now.
However, the problem I had before is back and has been going on for awhile. When I wake up the computer, whether it is scheduled in the morning for back up or I do it on my own, more often than not, it freezes a few minutes after waking. I can get logged in, start doing stuff, and then it freezes. Doesn't do it every time as I've had it go for days between freezes with several wake ups in between.
I doubt it is hardware related as I have checked the memory, I have turned down my overclock a bit in case it is processor, and Ubuntu will go to sleep and wake up with no issue. I doubt it is hard drive related as when I had to fix the sleeping issue, the whole hard drive was wiped and then reinstalled so the file structure is different. As the same stuff, services and applications are turned on with each restart, that shouldn't be the problem. Firefox causes script issues in Ubuntu on both my desktop and laptop so I am going to back to Chrome and see if that does it, but I doubt it because I have awoken the computer with Firefox off.
When the computer "wakes" from sleep all i get is a backround, I can move a mouse around but thats it. Windows 7 operating system.
