Also my desktop icons do not highlight when I pass over them. My OS is Windows 7 64bit
I recently built and installed a windows 7 64 bit pc for a customer of mine. She's had it for about 3 weeks without issue. I just no got an email stating that none of her desktop icons work and the desktop itself doesn't seem to respond to mouse clicks. She can however use items from the taskbar.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy desktop shortcuts and keyboard don't work anymore on my Dell. We had a virus but removed it, very once in a while it would work for a minute but it doesn't work at all anymore! We can't do much without typing. We tried installing otherkeyboards, wireless and USB, but same problem, they don't work. The Desktop shortcuts would work if you right click and hit open but now it won't right click. So I have to find the program in all programs and open it
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a win application that performs some long calculation, and since it's single threaded it doesn't refresh the window in the process. I was wondering why show desktop won't work because of that? I mean I know the answer, show desktop sends a minimize commands to all the windows, and this app won't respond.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having this issue for as long as I can remember. Certain sites simply never load on my desktop. My Firefox and my IE would indicate that the page is down by returning the following error: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at [URL] The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. Theses same sites work FINE from work, from collage, and from my cellphone (Android 2.3) but NOT my damn desktop. At first I thought maybe Comcast was blocking them but then I realized that I CAN view them on my Android phone, using Dolphin Browser, or any Android browser for that matter when connected to my Wi-fi which obviously, is the Comcast/Xfinity.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer boots alright but I can't refresh, neither can I open any of my folders not even Control Panel. Also searching programs and files in the start button window doesn't work i.e you can type but there won't be any results. The only thing I can open are files on the desktop. What is wrong with my folders and how can I repair this? I tried this SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot but it didn't work.

I'm running a 2003 and 2008 server the 2003 is the primary DC. Most of our PC's are XP and were testing 2 windows 7 machines.
The desktops and some shared drives were stored on a nas box but it was unstable so I shifted the desktops and some public shares to a server on one of the DC's. I redirected the shares using netlogon scripts and they took fine on all computers XP and Windows 7, the desktops were redirected using Group policy, all the XP machines took the redirection, a few needed the users to be reset though. The issue I'm having is with the 2 windows 7 PC's, they have taken the shares but not the desktops. The desktops were working before. I have tried deleting the users and login in again, I have also tried to remove the regedit policies but no success. I have even taken the PC off the domain and put it back on with no success. The same users log in fine on the XP PC's and get the desktop.
I'm having an annoying problem. With my desktop computer I'm unable to access the webmail login for my work website. I'm not positive, but I thought it might be due to the full version trial of Malwarebytes that I installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Malwarebytes using Revo Uninstaller, and now have just the standard version, and I still have the problem.
I can access my work website (except for the webmail login), but when I try to ping my work website I get "general failure" results. I also get "general failure" results when pinging the webmail login.I can access the webmail login through my laptop. The reason I think it might be Malwarebytes is because from what I remember random websites stopped loading after I opted for the full version trial.I tried disabling Windows Firewall and Security Essentials real time scanning I've tried to access the webmail login using Firefox, Chrome and IE and none worked. I've tried using my cell phone as a modem to bypass the router and that didn't work.
I need help getting my Remote Desktop Connection to work. I have followed every tutorial on this site to no avail. My pc is WORKGROUP, there is no domain. I have activated Remote Device Access through the Control Panel and in the BIOS. I have followed through with everything to achieve waking my pc through WOL Magic Packet sending. About 2 months ago, my laptop had a hardware failure of some sort, and I only backed up my documents. Everything else had been deleted. I only recently wanted to start using the printer again, so I installed the driver using the HP website. However, once the driver installed, it seems that my printer and my laptop cannot connect up, and it seems that my laptop may not recognise the printer as a device. I am unsure as to what I should do now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to connect a friends computer to her office computer thru Remote Desktop and now I see that Windows 7 home premium does not work with that option. Any workaround for using Remote Desktop at home using Windows Home Premium and connecting to an office computer at another location using the same Windows 7 Home Premium? The option is available, but I guess the problem is that the office computer is running the same version that is not supported.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to know about VMWare Player. First of all, I would like to know about the bios setup in VMWare. Now what I want to know is if the bios acts the same as the actual bios setup in my computer. And also, there is a Wake on Lan option in the VMWare player bios setup. Now does this really work and wake up other computers when they are off or in standby? That is what I really want to know from you. And I also would like to know on what kind of computer manufacturers work with my VMWare player.Does HP, Dell, Acer, Asus and all the rest of the companies work together. Like lets say that I downloaded Windows 7 and put in my VMWare player, and then I went to my system properties, what would the computer manufacturers be? Like what would it say? Well for my computer I have an Acer Aspire 5733z model notebook. Now lets say that I downloaded a driver, like a lan card adapter for a Dell Optiplex computer. Would I be able to download that driver on my VMWare Player? Because I know that VM Player is virtual, and it is not my actual computer, which is my Acer Aspire 5733z. It is just powered by VM Ware.
Now for example, my Dad at work has a Dell Inspiron mini netbook, which is a 1012 model. And he has a Dell wireless lan card in his computer at work. And I also installed Team Viewer on his netbook computer. Now like every time he goes home and leaves work, he shuts down his computer, and his Team Viewer ID number goes away. And I do not like that at all when he shuts down his computer. Because once, it is shut down, I cannot make his ID number come back online, because his computer is off at work. Now what I was wondering was does the Dell wireless lan card have Wake on Lan settings on it in the properties of the network adapter? Because I tried everything to wake up and turn on his computer, but nothing just would work for me. By the way, he is not on a Lan, he is using a wireless connection, from a Dell wireless lan card, itself in his Dell Inspiron 1012 mini netbook computer. Now I would really like to know on how to wake his computer up, if it is possible. So just let me know on how to do this for me, step-by-step. All righty? And I would think that VMWare player works just like an actual computer with the bios setup, and everything. And if I download a certain driver, that should work too, I am assuming. So just let me know if this process will work. So that is that part. Now the next part I would like to know from you, is I want to get some Mac addresses from certain people. Like because I have a lot of friends, and they need some help on various things on how to troubleshoot issues on their computers. And for this I would need to use Remote Desktop. But lets say that their computer was off, and not turned on, and I needed to turn it on. Could I turn on their computer remotely with their mac address if I knew it? But I am assuming that I can turn on any computer if I had their mac address. And I do not have a Wake on Lan option in my actual real bios setup. So for that, I would have to enable the Wake on Lan in my VMWare player bios setup. The VMWare bios setup is by American Megatrends. So that should work. But mainly what I am saying here is that, I would like to know on how to get someone's mac address, by using an IP scanner, or a mac address scanner.
