View 0 RepliesI wasn't to create a Windows 7 installation disk that does not have ANY of my old files on it. I'm going to install Windows 7 on another computer other than mine. (And yes I have another license key) Is there any part on my hard drive that contains just the installation files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust purchased my first Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) PC (Hewlett Packard). No media was supplied with the machine and I have been advised that media is not shipped anymore (apparantley it is Microsoft's way of ensuring media cannot be loaded onto several systems).
Reading comments on the internet it seems clear that I have to make an ISO file, but I'm unsure what directory/files I need to pick and copy.

The tutorial for creating the bootable XP disc worked great and I would like to have a backup with SP1 on it for my Win7 Home Premium x64 (retail version). I didn't see anything in the Win 7 tutorials, maybe it can't be done with 7, but if it can I would do it so I have the cd with SP1 on it already.
how can I create a windows xp lite bootable usb, I tried using wintoflash but the USB I created doesnt trigger a boot option.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 Professional as a 32 bit version. Now I want to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my machine from my USB drive. The problem is that my machine doesn't boot from the USB drive. Anyway, I've tried with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 on my USB drive. This works well, but not with a 64 bit version. Why it doesn't work? Just to be on the safe side, I've tested it several times with other USB drives and followd thoroughly the instructions(diskpart).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been fixing PCs for friends and family for years, some of them are really good at screwing up an OS a only couple months after i install a fresh copy of xp or 7. i would like to be able to create a restore method simple for them to use to reset there machine back to my initial installed state. was thinking something similar to newer PCs F11 restore method or something i could add to a bootloader in 7 or xp making it a "dualboot" with just the OS and the recovery.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell xps M1530 with a: 2.0 ghz dual core processor, 3gb of RAM, and (currently) a 360gb 7200rpm hard drive. I have purchased Windows 7 professorial 32bit to upgrade from Vista. Not shortly afterwards my hard drive started to go so I bought a new one(better on of coarse) I want to upgrade the RAM in my laptop to 8gb and I need a 64bit os to do so. I now am using Ubuntu 64bit on my laptop until I install windows. I have legally got the installers for the 64bit version of Windows 7 professional. I am planning on using the same key for the 64bit version which after research I believe will work. Right now I am having problems installing 7. I would really like to not have to waste a DVD to install it. I used some Microsoft utility to extract the ISO to a thumb drive which, I believe is bootable in the purpose of installing 7. Every time I try loading the os from the Thumb drive I get this error message:
Error: Unknown file system
Grub Rescue
Also, the Setup.exe file for installing windows doesn't seem to run under a linux operating system even with wine.
Can anyone please tell me what is the name of bootable files in windows 7 as well as in xp??
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy main pc got a new motherboard and requires a fresh install of windows 7. Ok, I have the windows 7 iso and I have the motherboard installed into my computer. I put the ISO on my flash drive but when I booted from the flash drive I got "Reboot and select a proper boot device or insert media in selected device and press a button." After 2 days and countless hours searching I can not get this to work. The computer I am on right now is a Windows XP 32x laptop. Is it even possible for me to make a usb drive loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64x for another computer? With every step by step guide I found on how to do this they either said to use the Windows 7 usb dvd download tool (which is what I have been using since the beginning to no avail) or do it manually. To do it manually involves the Diskpart feature of the command prompt, which on xp, doesnt detect flash drives. So...I cant do it manually.tell me if I have to reinstall my old motherboard (heatsink installation is a pain which is why I dread installing motherboards) and then upon reinstalling old motherboard do I have to set up my flash drive (again) and hope I didnt mess up just to rip the motherboard back out and put the new new one back in and hope the usb boots this time?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just downloaded Microsoft Windows 7 Build 7057 Ultimate x86 with a size of 2.52 GBs. Since I use a fairly slow internet connection it took me AGES to complete.
Now that I want to burn it on a DVD so I can use it as a bootable disc, I see that there is no single image file like ISO, CCD, IMG, etc. for burning. Unfortunately I face a bunch of files and folders.
I'd like to know how I am able to make a bootable DVD outta these files so I can easily clean install a new Windows 7.
Somebody told me I have to download ANOTHER TWO GIGABYTES as a 3rd party program in order to do that! Since my internet connection is badly slow I didn't even listen to what he said!!!
Is there a way I can get rid of this problem? I am unbelievably eager to experience the ALL-NEW Windows 7.
I am wanting to set up a 32gb usb drive for installing windows onto laptops and netbooks. What I would like is a bootable usb drive that lets me select which version of windows (XP, Vista, Win 7, 32 and 64 bit versions). I have iso's of all of these but I am not sure how to go about getting them on the drive and be bootable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I create a reinstallation disc for W-7 which was preinstalled on my Lenovo computer? Note: this would be in case my hard drive fails so that I can reinstall W-7 on a new hard drive. My first computer came with the disc (Win-ME). My second computer had a procedure where I was prompted to create/burn a disc of W-XP when I first started the computer. This time - nothing. I contacted Lenovo and they said I would have to pay $40 for such a disc!! Isn't there some way I can do this myself for free? I asked Lenovo about creating a System Image disc but they said it wouldn't work because I couldn't boot from it. (Note: the computer did come with a CD which has the drivers on it).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new sata3 SSD drive on which I want to install Windows 7. The PC has an existing build of Windows 7 on a different disc which i want to reformat & use for data. I tried this previously and ended up with a dual booting system. Trying to remove the old Windows 7 installation and format that disc created much trouble so now I'm starting again, how to: Install Windows 7 on the new SSD disc (I'm assuming this will work ok as I've done it before), Have the system recognise only the new Windows 7 installation at boot & not the old Windows 7 installation so I don't have to select which OS to use, Reformat the old Windows 7 disc and remove any boot references that it might hold.

View 7 Replies View RelatedNot exactly sure how to explain or even exactly what im looking for but basically I had an older laptop running windows 7 home premium that allowed me from the boot menu to re install windows & home premium w/o key or anything. It was placed on a partition of my hard drive. I would like to do this again but im not sure what exactly im looking for or how to search for it in shorter terms. It was an MSI Intel duel core laptop. I would like to put it on my toshiba quad core. Im familiar with partitioning software and image restoration but not sure what exactly i should be looking for to do this. Just a clean Reinstallation of my OS without needing keys i dont care to back up any information except my os which is a clean install. Update Toshiba has this HDD recovery but i am not sure if this is what i need/want. MSI had a MSI recovery which did what i want. Is this the same/similar?
