Backup And Restore Error Message 0x80780119
Nov 8, 2009
When trying to use the Windows 7 backup program I get error message 0x80780119 becuase the program is looking for a backup image that doesn't exist. It tells me I don't have enough space to make a backup. The drive I wan't to back up (C: Windows 7 Drive) has only 15GB of data and the K:\ usb drive has 102GB free. The folder K:\WindowsImageBackup is empty. The backup program thinks there is an Image file residing on the K: drive but its not there, therefore it can't be deleted, which precludes me from being able to use the program from making a backup. Is there anyway I can get the Windows 7's backup program to work?

I just came upon a very strange problem with my computer today. I started it as usual, ran a TuneUp Utilities check (as I usually do) and, in the meantime, was prompted by my iTunes installer to install a new version of iTunes. I clicked OK on the install thing, then all of a sudden I get this message from the HP Support Assistant: Windows System Restore is not activated. So I go to the System Protection folder to try to manually enable it, but I get an error message that says an unexpected error occurred: System restore has found an error, try to run System restore again. I do this a thousand times, and the same message pops up.
So I run my Norton antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy. The Norton search comes up empty, but the SpyBot returns this: Babylon Toolbar and Win32.Downloader.bltu. So I click to fix the problems and an error message pops up in SpyBot saying I'm not running it as admin, so the problems can't be fixed. Well, my user account is an admin account (the only one I have in this computer), so there's obviously something very wrong here, for it seems like whatever this is, it's keeping me from executing whatever task may remove it. I also execute sfc /scannow from a command prompt and the returning message is that I cannot run sfc /scannow because I'm not an administrator.

Today I started getting a strange error message pop up that stated "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." It seems to pop up at random. First couple times, I ignored it. When it persisted, I googled it, only to find most people with this error are having issues with links in outlook. I do not use outlook or IE, and wasn't doing anything browser related during any of the errors, so, lazily, I ignored it again. Finally, when one of these errors kicked me out of my Portal game, I decided I had to do something about it. I decided to just system restore before I went through any huge hassle before I tried figuring anything major out.
System restore went swimmingly, didn't seem to have any issues. But.. My keyboard and mouse, both wireless and usb, weren't working upon reboot. Okay. Different port. Nope. All of them are dead. All. Even the motherboard ones in the back. NO usb device I plug in works, or even registers. To make it weirder, I see that my wireless isn't connecting (the internet is fine) and my sound is muted. Sound was on when I started system restore. It's like all input into my machine is no longer accepted. I know the CD drive works, because inserting a CD even brought up the autoplay window, even though I can't actually input anything.

My son turned on his computer and it stated that he has "corrupt files on the "c" drive and needs to check for consistency". When it checks, an error occurs it says bc of a "recently installed program" and "needs to restore" his computer. It then goes to a black screen with only the mouse visible. He re-started in safe mode and tried to restore and it goes to the original message that he has corrupt file son the "c " drive.

Emachines ET-1831-03 box, with Intel ES-300 dual core 2.6 ghz processors, Ran fine, then SATA Seagate 750 gb HD failed.Received the correct system restore CD's from both emachines and Asus. Attempted to reinstall Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit on alternative 80 gb WD IDE hard drive (having removed the defective 750 gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 from the machine). Also installed 2 gb DDR2 which tested fine, to insure no RAM errors. Recovery CD's go thru entire restore process, and say to remove the last CD and restart. On restart - I get only the black screen with the "MBR01 Error" message.RAM has been tested.Obviously the motherboard and CPU are OK, because it loads the system CD, and does the complete recovery install process. I am a retired IT professional, and this is the first time I have been stymied by an operating system re-install. I've tried variations in the BIOS settings for about 10 tries, with the same negative results.

I wouldn't go so far to say, I'm totally computer illiterate, but not far from it.. If there's anyone out there, who's up for a challenge I'm running windows 7. I am the administrator. Someone I don't trust at all, used my PC a while back. After he (did whatever he did) I noticed I couldn't access several files. I get a "access denied" or you don't have permission to view this file, owner info etc.. I can see a lot of the files, but their either empty now or I can't view them. I have used restore many times in the past, but now I get a message " no restore points".. I don't know what he did, or if he did anything.. It could be one of my kids changed properties by mistake, before I wised up and created a basic user acct w/ limited access for them.. I almost forgot. When I go into file properties there is a red x by my user name (administrator) Not in every property, but several.. Sometimes there is a red x by other user names, as well, but mostly mine.

I created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. "The Specified network resource or device is no longer available. (0x80070037)"

I'm running Windows 7 64x Home Premium on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.

OK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

When you wish to recover your system using this utility, do you use the Windows program at desktop or the rescue disc I created from the program? The reasn I ask is because I used to have better luck using Acronis' disc rather than the program and wonderd if the same applied here. Also, does the backup remove the existing one so that you only have one at a time or can you have more than one.

I have an old HD that I used to use for backups in a different PC setup, and though I deleted those backups when I moved on to a different HD, the backups were recoverable using Pandora and I believe intact since I never used the drive in question after that time. So specifically, I now have a folder called "Backup Set 2011-02-13 190024" that contains a 84 zipped folders worth 13.1GB that comprise that backup, and I want to restore them in some automatic fashion to see what's actually worth salvaging. (I assume this doesn't have to be done one-folder-at-a-time, drilling down through five layers of branches in the folder-tree, and almost immediately forgetting where I am...) But when I look at "Backup and Restore," I can't bring up this or any target folders - the link "Select another backup to restore files from" produces a blank set of choices, and there doesn't appear to be any way to 'load' a particular folder to restore, as I would have expected.

How to Create a System Image Backup in Windows 7 & How to Do a System Image Recovery in Windows 7
I decided to give it a try....this is by far the easiest method of doing image/ghost creation and restore
And although on the microsoft website compare editions page it is not mentioned as a feature of Home Premium it is still there although you will not be able to backup to a network location unless you get professional or ultimate
So for me I am ditching third party software in place of the features built into Windows 7

The recovery partition is intact and still contains the Factory.wim image. Is there anyway I can get this menu back or restore the factory.wim without it?

I set up Backup and Restore in the Wrong place, I believe. I set it up on my G Drive which is called HP Tools. The drive capacity is 3.95G. I began getting messages that there was no more room on the G Drive. It had only saved to the drive once.
So I went out and purchased a 8G flash drive and set it up to use that drive. Now I am getting similar notices saying there is no more space on that drive. It has only saved one restore point.
How much space do I need? In the past, with other computers, I have saved it on my C drive I believe.

I just built a new system and I had Windows 7 installed in RAID 0 on two 150 GB WD Velociraptors. Everything was fine until one of the drives had an error. For fear of the drive failing and since it was so new I decided to Backup everything (system image) and send it off to be replaced.
In the meantime, I wanted to go ahead and continue using my computer just using the other Velociraptor. So, I deleted the raid, changed the drive back to Non-Raid, Changed the BIOS back to IDE, and popped in my restore Disk. I booted the restore disk, plugged in my external (USB 2.0) 500GB HDD where the backup image is located, found the image and continued through the process. Then I got this error. "The image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found"
Next I put in the Windows 7 DVD to see If it would install on the drive and everything went smoothly. So I again booted from the restore disk thinking maybe the drive was not partitioned or formatted properly before and tried again. Same error. Why won't it let me load this image onto this HDD? And once my new raptor comes in and I return the system to its original configuration, will it let me restore it then?

I'm not exactly sure how the Backup and Restore feature in Windows 7 work. Does it backup only your operating system and important processes and certain programs, or does it also backup the data on your harddrive such as music, movies etc? Is this feature essentially the same as creating a recovery partition/disk ?

Using the Windows 7 Backup and Restore feature I made a back up of my Documents folder and my Desktop (the only two things on my computer I care about). I did not check off the option "Include a system image of Drives: ---". After the backup completed I clicked on the JOSH-PC (backup file) the window saying "Choose an option below for the selected backup" came up. If I click "Restore my files from this backup" will it automatically overwrite my current Desktop and Documents folder with what is in the back up or will I have a choice as to where on my computer these files are restored to?
