BSOD On Startup, Code 24 Caused By Ntfs.sys

Aug 17, 2012

I get the BSOD when restarting my machine (which I rarely do). It kicks in several seconds after my desktop comes up. After it restarts, it's usually fine (although sometimes it hits a second BSOD). But, once it's up and stable, no more BSOD.

BSOD 0x00000116 Atikmpag.sys When Playing Games

Sep 2, 2012

I have had this issue for a while but only recently did I realise that it has resulted in a BSOD, before I when the display had gone I had just rebooted the machine. However after leaving it for a minute or two it BSOD'd and I finally got to see an error to start debugging this problem!

This error occurs seemingly randomly when I am playing games on my EyeFinity setup (Three Monitors), sometimes I can play a game solidly for 5 hours with no problem. or I can start a game and get this error almost instantly. This has lead me to believe that it isn't an issue with a specific game as it happens with pretty much all of them.

The BSOD is STOP 0x00000116 atikmpag.sys

Attached is the dump from SF_Diagnostic_Tool (What an awesome idea).

And here is my system specs: Windows 7 x64 AMD Phenom II X6 1090T MSI 890FXA-GD70 Crucial Ballistix 4x2GB Radeon HD 5870 Asus Xonar DS 1TB Seagate 7200.12 OCZ 700W Thermaltake 2500RPMx2 HP 17" Monitors x3 (EyeFinity)

Windows Update Caused Startup Failure

Sep 17, 2012

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 6050 Mb

I am convinced that my computer has been dishonored and is trying to commit Hari-Kari.This year-old Toshiba P755 came with Win 7 installed. This August after an automatic Windows Update it failed to startup properly. After logging in Explorer would freeze.I was able to start up in Safe Mode. Windows Update log showed that a half dozen updates had just been installed, and several had failed.I used Recovery and selected a restore point just before the update. All went OK and the computer now worked until the next time I shut down, whereupon it headed off to re-install the updates. This time I noticed it hung in the Installing Updates, do not turn off your computer" screen for many, many hours, eventually failing to install them.

I repeated this cycle three times over teh next few days, growing more desperate each time. Finally I found a kb on the MSDN site that sounded applicable. It had me download and install a "Mr. Fixit" utility. I did so, got one more lockup, then upon entering Safe Mode saw a new option: Repair Startup or some such. I tried it and lo, it worked. No more endless "Installing Updates" messages.I then changed the Windows Update mode to manual. It still sent me messages about updates being available, so I then turned off the Windows Update service.

All was quiet for three weeks. Then last Friday the same drill - hung after logging in. Only this time it has invented a more ominous way to die. I did the Safe Mode->Control Panel->Recovery drill (I can do it in my sleep now) and, uh-oh, it says I have no restore points! I used to have dozens....Looking at the update log, I only see three update that (I think) are when I installed Mr. Fixit. I went ahead and uninstalled them anyway. The computer wanted a reboot, and once again locked on the "configuring Updates" screen. Now I can only start up in Safe Mode with Networking, which is how I am able to write this.

1) With no restore points to choose, what next?

2) How do I keep this from happening again?

Repeat BSOD Seems To Be Caused By UTorrent?

Apr 17, 2012

So my system have BSOD'd 5 times today, after reformatting it last month due to multiple BSODing of the same nature. After examining what I've been doing on my system today, it appears that uTorrent may be the culprit, as it only seems to be happening when the application is open. This could be a coincidence though as the blue screens seems to happen sporadically. This is the error that pops up after I reboot.

BSOD Possibly Caused By Dtsoftbus01 On New Build

Nov 28, 2011

I've been getting a BSOD sometimes on start up or shortly after. I've used the debugger to check the dump file and the driver that would appear to be faulty is dtsoftbus01 which from what I read is daemon tools. I had daemon tools on this computer at one point in time but I've since reformatted my hard drive so daemon tools shouldn't still be installed.

Intel Chipset Driver Caused BSOD

I then got a BSOD and my boot disk (an SSD) disappeared from the BIOS. I thought I was in big trouble. I have another controller so I plugged the SSD into the other one and booted to it and rolled back to the MS driver (just for the SATA controller). I then put everything back together.

Everything seems to work now. Do I need to take any further steps to prevent this from happening again? What happened?

BSOD Caused Graphics Card To Disappear From Device Manager

Aug 10, 2012

I'm using an Alienware M17x R4 with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660m.

I've been using this laptop for about 3 months now and everything has been running fine. Yesterday, I was playing Skyrim testing out a new mod from nexusmods. I've read on the description and comments and there were no problems associated with the mod. While I was using it a received a BSOD. When I restarted the computer my resolution was reset. I right clicked on the desktop and the options for my Nvidia control panel were gone along with the other options for the Intel Graphics control panel.

After a while my first display adapter came back which was the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. I looked up as much as I could about the problem and it was usually associated with the display adapters being reverted to something like Standard VGA Adapter. This applied to the Intel graphics, but that was all. It was as if my graphics card vanished and I can't find it under device manager. When I try installing/reinstalling the Nvidia drivers it says that there is no Nvidia hardware. I've tried waiting a couple of hours with the laptop shut down, finding it in safemode, and searched for even more solutions. I can't seemed to find any. The last thing I did was check the BIOS and it said that the Discrete Graphics Card was not detected.

Startup BSOD With RC1

May 6, 2009

I attempted install of RC1 on a new hard drive and got as far

as "Completing Installation". System reboots and after logo goes

to black screen. No error codes.

Reboot and selected Safe Mode. Win 7 says "Can't complete installation

in Safe Mode".

Reboot, press F8, select Low Resolution. Same results. Black screen.

System configure:

Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi

4 gb DDR3 memory

E8500 Intel Processor

EVGA Nvidia GeForce 9800GT with 512 mb ram

On board Marvel Lan

On board Ralink Wifi

On board sound

1 - 500 gb SATA II hard drive

1 - Sata DVD

This machine runs Windows Vista Business with absolutely no problems.

This machine runs Mac OS X 10.5.6 with Absolutely no problems.

This machine runs Windows 7 Build 7000 with absolutely no problems.

I use a different hard drive for each operating system and I have

a brand new drive that I'm using to install Win 7. The drive I'm

using to install Win 7 can run Win 7 Build 7000 perfectly.

I do a clean install attempt to install RC1 and I get above results.

I reinstalled Win 7 Build 7000 on the same drive and just before boot

it says "Checking Vidoe card performance", then reboots and Win 7,

Build 700 is installed.

On clean install of Win 7, Rc 1 it appears to get to the exact same pont

(although I don't see the message about testing performance), reboots,

and gives black screen.

I have been on a couple of board and the predominant them is BSOD's

at boot for machines running Nvidia graphics. It would appear that RC1 has fouled up the Nvidia drivers.

I can't get into Low Res mode to load the approved 9800gt drivers from

EVGA so I can't complete the installation.

I'm hoping someone from Microsoft sees this and comments.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.

BSOD And Cannot Startup My Computer

Apr 30, 2012

This also happened to me (the BSODs) but not after installing RAM - I'm not sure what the error code was though, I upgraded my OS from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows 7 (I actually installed Windows 7 on a different partition) and didn't actually do an "upgrade" - but I wasn't sure if I should "uninstall" or delete the old Windows OS from the other partition. Not sure how to go about doing that - just by deleting, or having to clean registry keys, etc. I also had to install a new video card - since my previous one would not work right under Windows 7.
