Asus U56e Laptop Hangs / Freezes
Jun 16, 2012I have an Asus u56e laptop I got back in December 2011, and recently I did I clean reinstall of my system because it kept freezing and locking up while simply just browsing the web and listening to iTunes. I don't use this laptop for games, but after the clean install, I updated all my drivers, software, windows updates, etc. and I still get hangs and freezes that last 5 seconds to sometimes a full minute and all I'm doing is listening to music and browsing websites with maybe two or three tabs open in Firefox. I really have absolutely no idea what could be wrong so I came here seeking any kind of much needed help and assistance. I don't have a lot of programs installed and I don't run a lot of programs at once, just maybe one or two apps usually. My problem is I will be browsing on Firefox listening to music, then iTunes will hang for a few seconds and the music freezes, then Firefox freezes too sometimes for a few seconds also, then it goes back to normal, and this happens very very frequently to the point of frustration and I simply don't understand why a new clean laptop would have an issue such as this. Mar 7, 2011I have an Asus G73JH-BST7 Laptop and recently it's been freezing. For the past two months it has had issues with programs hanging for 1-3 minutes then quickly responding again. About a week ago the laptop began to freeze and wouldn't come back and would required a hard restart. I decided to make use of my warranty and took it into a geek squad store. They told me they ran chkdsk and "other" tests to check the HDD and it passed all the tests and they couldn't "Replicate" the problem. So, I took the laptop back and it's still hanging/freezing. Whats the best way to go about diagnosing this?

Install Process Freezes Om Kingston SSDNow V Series In Asus EeePC 1201HAB
Mar 31, 2010When I try to install Windows 7 from an USB stick on an Asus EeePC 1201HAB with a Kingston SSDNow V series 120GB the process freezes when I try to install Windows 7 Home Premium or format on the ssd.
Even installing from an external dvd player results in the same problem, when Windows starts to copy files during installation, the proces freezes every time. The ssd itself is working, I checked that in another system. Could it be a problem with the combination of a Kingston SSDNow V series in the Asus eeePC 1201HAB?
Initial Windows Screen Before Login Screen And Freezes / Then Sends Into Startup Repair

Dec 1, 2009day before yesterday, everything working fine. no errors or issues of any kind.
yesterday, i woke up and turned computer on and just had a black screen..
config:i7 920 6gb ddr3 corsair dominator 1600 mhz cl7,psu corsair 850w,mbo asus p6t deluxe and samsung 932bf 19'' on win 7 x64 rtm 7600
system is brand new except ati 4870 which is one year old and monitor
Have tried everything,took out battery on motherboard for half hour, reinserted and restarted. holding down delete button. got the bios screen and reset to defaults. save and exit, and then just black screen.
cant even see bios, asus load screen or anything.
just one beep. flashed bios also, turned memory slots, changed dvi connector on 4870, i reseated my video card.monitor works cuz i can see load screen sometimes.
and had finally managed to enter win, and its works fine till system is idle, then goes to sleep. tried to wake up and guess what black screen again, restarted comp and again black screen no bios no anything.
and lets go for another try.after 5-6 rebooting,win 7 starts again,in power options have turned off everything, and tried shutting down monitor and turned it back on and ye you know black screen of death again installed latest ati catalyst driver also,and system restore but no point,cant turn my pc and monitor off .
ASUS X83v Flashing At Bottom Of Screen?
Oct 10, 2010I recently just installed Windows 7 on my wife's laptop. It previously had Vista 64 bit and now of course has the 7 64 bit version.Everything has gone pretty smooth. There were a handful of drivers that needed installed but otherwise smooth. The only thing that remains finicky is sometimes I get flashing at the bottom of the screen only, like only taskbar width. I had it stopped after installing the newest driver from Nvidia but then when I ran the benchmark test from Windows for its rating system purely out of curiosity it started again. Initially once every 2 seconds now about every ten, and sometimes longer pauses inbetween. Which leads me to believe that it may be to taxing of the video card and it just glitches out when taxed. Although it seems it is probably a setting on the card/resolution/refresh rate/driver that probably needs adjusted to get it out of this little spat since it never had a single issue when I used Vista.

Aug 22, 2011My netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.

Jan 28, 2009I have bad issues with the resolution settings under Windows 7. With a fresh install of Windows 7 I can't move up to 1600X1200. the native resolution of my monitor is 1920X1200. I started to try some others drivers but without any success. I tried to use the NV panel wich offers me the correct resolution but when I click on the apply button nothing change or kick me out of range. The exact same thing using the possible settings from the adapter properties.
The reason is that the refresh rate seemed to be lock @70hz which is too high for that resolution using VGA. Some of you may say to try with HDMI cable, but I don't want because I 'm also using an analog KVM. It reminds me a PB I had when I installed OSX on my PC, but we're talking about Windows 7 here, and of course it's not the same exact problem. It seems to be a common problem with many of you. Any solution to fix it ?
Screen Freezes Every Second For A Split Second
Nov 14, 2011Earlier today my computer had a rather nasty shut down with no battery and then this started. I have checked around and I have done everything I can think of to see what could be causing the screen freezes including: Checking Processes for something hogging CPU, checking event viewer system and application for excessive errors, running memory diagnostics and running in safe mode but I have had no luck. What could be slightly more alarming is that I am fairly sure that this freezing problem is actually occuring outside of Windows, in the BIOS I could still notice the freezing.

Aug 19, 2012I've had trouble with BSODS and screen freezes on and of for a couple of weeks. Sometimes there is no dumpfile and sometimes there is nothing in event viewer. I uninstalled Avast free and the problem was gone for 4 days. I've tried almost everything. Cleaning out dust updating drivers sfc scannow/ diskcheck. I also reinstalled an image from before the problems started I had another this morning but no log I attacked what I've found relating to it. This is a Windows 7 64 bit with 8 gig ram and a NVIDIA GT 9800 video card. It's a HP dt500.

May 3, 2011My laptop was working fine the other day and then all of sudden that same night my laptop would no longer load. It will always freeze at the Windows 7 welcome screen. The loading circle just stops spinning.I did not install any drivers or programs that day or even the past few days. Here is some info on what ive tried.
1) Safemode works without a problem.
2) However, safemode with networking still freezes. It will get past the welcome screen but then freeze after about 10 seconds
3) Ive tried doing alt+ctrl+del while booting in windows but it will still freeze. For some reason, I was able to get past the welcome screen but then it freezes like a few seconds later.
4) Ive tried restarting from safemode. It will still freeze at Windows 7 welcome screen
5) I had a password but then removed the password and enabled automatic login
6) The last thing Ive tried is to use chkdsk /f. I couldnt use it while in cmd so I allowed checkdisk to start when I restarted my computer. Checkdisk ran and gets stuck at 57% during phase 2, index searching. Now I cant even get to Windows because any hard shutdown and restart brings me automatically back to chkdsk. FML.
7) I need to try startup repair utility but I do not have the windows 7 installation CD handy at the moment. That also rules out windows repair.
Possible causes:
1) My HD may have become damaged during in transit. I had to bring with my other gear on to a plane
2) My windows 7 build may have expired. Probably not likely as it was working fine that same day.

Windows 7 Freezes At Logo Screen?
Oct 18, 2012I have a 7 month old Gateway desktop I got from Best Buy. Not long after getting it I replaced the power supply and put in a graphics card, no problems whatsoever. I didn't plug or unplug anything, but this morning I tried to turn it on and it sticks at the black screen with the logo, the logo will do the small wave thing and pulse but the computer won't go past it. I have tried recovery, repair, memory repair, and CHKDSK, all say they can't fix it automatically. Safe mode doesn't work and gets stuck while trying to load the files for it.
I took out the PSU and GPU and put back in the original power supply and it didn't fix it (not good with hardware so don't laugh if that sounds stupid). It did not come with a Windows 7 repair disk. I don't want to take it back and trade it in because I have files on it I want to keep, is there anything else I missed that may fix this?
Specs are (general as I don't know specifics):
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
i5 2320 CPU quad core @ 3GZ
8 GB RAM
Radeon HD 6770 GPU (Intel HD now that it's taken out)

I have reduced start up programs to minimum and offloaded all big files to external hard disk to free of space, but when I use the internet, the pc just seems to slow down until it completely stops.on many occasions it automatically shuts down due to over heating, I have a fan pad (under the laptop) to keep the heat down but still makes no difference, I have also updated the BIOS settings and set the internal fan to work all the time.Is this a virus ? or just a crap laptop ?I have installed bit defender and also regularly run clean up! to remove temp files.

Jun 22, 2012I'm using Windows 7 32 bits, and had no trouble till yesterday. For a year and so, always update and have no problem. But last update made computer go crazy.It did no turn off by herself, it took more than half an hour, so I turned it off pressing power button. After that, when booting, it shows users screen, enter pass and it freezes in the "welcome" screen, with the little think turning arround forever.So far, tried with safe mode. Thing is, VERY weird, it never happened beforme to me, even on XP, there is NO chance of a previous good cofiguration. So, when I try to go back to previous state of those beautiful updates, I cannot, for there is no chance. I don't know why, seems like it was turned off. When xp user, had so many time system back that way.
Also tryed changing to "backup" files of SYSTEM and SOFTWARE, in :WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGREGBACK I don't know if doing it right, apparently not =P copied back files from that directory in system32config and restarted, but same thing happens.I am using the same machine to post this, with another HD, so I think that it's no hard problem, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to use it. Runs games and stuff, so it's OK I guess.Also tryed, before, CHKDISK and defrag.Now I have the "good" disk, from where I boot, and the other connected, and can access to old Windows, and disk itself, so, I guess too that the HD works fine.
Screen Freezes But Computer Doesn't?
Nov 14, 2011Im having a really strange issue on my computer, im running windows 7 x64
basically what happens is im using my computer and suddenly it freezes. At first I thought the whole computer freezes but I soon realized this is not the case. My mouse pointer remains free and i can move it while everything else freezes. The strange part is that the actual computer doesnt freeze, I know this because of some things I observed in this "frozen" state:
- if i have itunes running before it freezes , I can still hit the pause/play buttons and switch songs after it freezes by clicking on them in the itunes interface. The selected song plays, and hitting the pause/play buttons do what they should, but nothing changes on the screen, it remains "frozen"
- if i double click a program from a desktop icon I get the loading mouse pointer as if the program is loading but the screen remains frozen so i dont actually see the program pop up.
so basically what I thought was my computer freezing is really just my screen freezing, the computer is running fine in the "background" as I can still do certain tasks, but the screen doesnt update to reflect these tasks.
What could be the problem? I had this same exact issue like half a year back and it one day just went away so I never bothered with it but here it is, its back and its really annoying because i have to hard restart my computer every time it happens.
Sometimes it happens out of nowhere, but I noticed it happens most of the time when my computer "shakes". Like when i get up and bang my knee on the desk, it freezes. or when i walk like an elephant in my room, it freezes.. etc. But sometimes it happens when im sitting perfectly still also so I dont even know if the shaking is really what causes it
My Screen Freezes Then Goes Black Every 5 Minutes
Apr 16, 2012It if very annoying because I am trying to do shit and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few second, then flashes a couple times, and then starts to work again. the entire process takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The error message that comes up says
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 295.73 stopped responding and has successfully recovered.I've tried re-installing the drivers for my card but it didn't work. I have an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 420.
Freezes At Install Splash Screen
Dec 23, 2009I just got Windows 7 Pro 32 bit as a early Christmas gift and was excited to try the new OS. I have been running XP pro for years and my current system works great. I backed up my files and tried to load it on a RAID 0 configuration. It started just fine then it got to the splash screen and froze. After about ten minutes I realized this was not normal so I ejected the disk and it moved to the next screen which is the windows wallpaper.
It said windows is “starting up” and froze again and continued to freeze throughout the process. I did a custom install. I repeated the process until it started to expand the files then nothing. It said it couldn’t recognize my hard drives. I deleted all raid partitions and rebuilt the raid array. I tried to reload it again and still nothing. I reloaded XP then ran the installation disk. It loaded up Windows 7and after several ejects Windows 7 was running. I tried to load Office 07 and it wouldn’t load. The CD sounded like it was working but it seemed like the disk could not be recognized.
I downloaded all the updates and correct drivers and Office 07 still wouldn’t load. After several hours and repeated attempts to get it working right, it crashed. I have not been able to get it to work at all. I tried again to load Windows 7 but I gave up thinking I am missing something but I don’t know what. I have since loaded XP back up and I am looking for any help at all as to what the problem might be. I ran the advisor and it said my system can run Windows 7. The Mobo disk has an updater but there were no new bios files available. I am stuck. My comp specs are below, maybe it might shed some light on the problem. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
