After a while it started freezing all the time so I decided to clean it up. It had tons of dust that I removed and I even applied thermal paste MX3 to the processor. Everything went well for a few months but now the freezing has restarted. Basically, I turn it on and it freezes while doing small stuff like opening firefox or steam whithin a minutes.
Normally the screen goes black but the lights in the tower stay on and the fans keep working. I have to manually reboot and then it just works normally with no more freezings. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. It crashes basically whenever computer goes to sleep mode and when I try to hit enter and wake up the system from sleep mode I get this blue screen issue and below is what I get.

Nov 16, 2011My computer locks up randomly and the screen turns black and unresponsive, at least once per day, forcing me to do a hard reset.There is no BSOD or Minidump created, although sometimes (maybe 75% of the time) there is a dump file created in the LiveKernelReports folder. The dump files in LiveKernelReports always point to atikmpag.sys. I tried uninstalling all video card drivers and using driver sweeper, and letting Windows use default graphics. I continued to get the same freezes, except no dump files were created at all in LiveKernelReports. I then reinstalled the ATI drivers, and the symptoms persist, now with dump files again pointing to the same atikmpag.sys.this only happens when the system is idle for a while. I never get freezes when actively using the system, but if I return to it after an hour or more, it's just a black screen and I must do a hard reset.I am running Win 7 professional 64-bit full version, 8 gb ram, 1gb ddr5 msi video card.Another strange symptom: After the hard reset, the computer has deleted all of my IE cookies. It also has forgotten the IE window size after these hard resets... very bizarre. In fact, if I make any changes to the desktop -- for example, by moving the icons or re-sorting them by name -- Windows doesn't remember this either. On reboot, it reverts to whatever I had on the desktop before making the changes. This does not happen on a normal restart/reboot. If I do not wait for it to crash, and instead I reboot normally, all of my settings/cookies/window sizes are preserved like you'd expect.
I've tried the following:
- ran memtest86, no errors after 9 passes
- ran seatools hard drive diagnostics, no errors found
- ran Hot CPU Tester 4, no errors found
- reinstalled/reseated graphics gard and memory sticks
- running with a single memory stick (same crashes occur with either memory stick)
- the windows memory and hard drive diagnostic tools, no errors found
- When running Driver Verifier, I get the same freezes, and still no minidump or bsod.
- Disabling all power saving options both in Windows and in the BIOS, like sleep mode, hibernate, etc.
- Updating all drivers that seemed out of date and upgrading bios to latest firmware.
Prime95 and furmark run without issue, and do not crash the system (presumably, because the system isn't idle when they are running). Idle temps (~30 degrees C) and temps under heavy load (about 60 degrees C) are well within the normal range.If I run in safe mode, it does not seem to occur, but I'm not positive because I've never stayed in safe mode for more than a day.
Blue Screens And Freezes Still Going On Randomly
Mar 28, 2012I haven't been able to get my system running stable since a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 a few months now. The computer is about 3 years old. Local pc tech shop installed 7 64 Pro on a brand new hard drive (2 months ago) that was tested prior to installing the OS.I've included required reports. I believe my memory has been thoroughly tested and is running well. The only thing I haven't done is uninstalling Avast though not sure why it would be a problem software.

Feb 18, 2013I have an Asus A53S Laptop. It's about 2 years old and is no longer under warranty and I am now getting the Blue screen of death. This started occurring after I had just opened a slot in the back that only had access to the ram but didn't modify anything. I can post a picture of that if needed. It seems to occur when I put the computer under a small amount of load. It will happen if I run maybe 4 programs max. Skype, google chrome, microsoft office, etc. I manage to get a picture of the screen when it blue screened. I read about a "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated" error.

Random Small Freezes For A Second And Blue Screens Of Death?
Jul 10, 2012a couple of days ago my computer started getting blue screens of death, now sometimes my computer gets a small second freeze and makes a sound like the computers crashed before it fixes itself, if it doesnt freeze, it makes the same sound but blue screens instead and when it happens, the file that apparently crashes is different every time, for some reason the collection program isnt working for me either, it seems to freeze at steps as well when it is running the system info report, nothing else happens and the folder in my documents does not appear, ive had it run for 30 minutes and nothing's happeneds

Oct 24, 2012Right about the time we got the virus out I started to get regular system freezes and BSODs at random times throughout the day. I'm not sure if it's something we did, if the virus messed something up, or if it's some unrelated issue. It's not the memory since I tested it last night and there weren't any errors.It can happen at any time. I haven't been playing any games and the only game I ever do play on this laptop is minecraft. Dec 19, 2011one day it suddenly crashed while i was watching a movie. it displayed random patterns on screen. kinda like part of the image from the video is on the screen then a black strip and random colors. I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again...thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!

I'm assuming it's a BIOS driver problem, but i'll leave it up to you guys to tell me, you're the experts :P I also tried doing a system restore, but for whatever reason when I try it just says the restore is initializing and it sits on that screen and never does anything. I've left it for about an hour before and still nothing, not real sure what the problem is there either. Right now I'm running the laptop off safe mode with networking and it's working fine, hopefully it's just a driver problem I can fix.
I'm on Windows 7 32bit and let me know if you need any more information.
Blue Screen And Black Screen?

Jun 23, 2009I just installed Windows 7 64-bit last night, and the installation went without a hitch. I started to install my programs and then things started to get a little hairy. Every once in a while (ranging 3 minutes - 3 hours) my computer will blue screen out with a mention of afd.sys. This usually happens when I try to do something with the network (ex: Skype, Trillian, etc.).
I'm too new to this to know how to read minidumps, so I thought I'd give them to you guys and see how you could help me. I'm up for any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Reformatting is not an issue, as I have time to spare (when I'm not at work). My system specs are up to date in my profile.

Blue Screen When Plugging In USB?
Nov 20, 2011I run windows 7 home premium and this morning for no apparent reason when I plugged in my USB stick my computer blue screened, I tried restarting it and the same thing happened, I tested my usb on a different computer and it was fine, I tired both ports on my laptop and the same thing happened on both. Apr 1, 2012I was just searching the internet- probably on facebook 2 past Friday when (I think) I opened a new tab on Firefox, and everything closed and shut down. Now, it had shut down like this before a couple days before.. However, this time a blue screen of death appeared right after I went into normal mode after the restart.
I tried it in safe mode.. I am able to get in to the log in screen.. then the waiting screen.. then the BSOD. I've heard that it's supposed to tell you what the problem is, but I still don't know what it is. I have some pictures below. They're pretty bad though because I only see it for a second before it disappears.
I've tried diagnostics and repair.. Restoring to 2 weeks ago- spring break. Taking out my "new" devises (memory drives and graphics card) that I installed more than 3 months ago and replacing the memory with the ones it came with. The only thing that I THINK I haven't tried is command prompt (which probably won't help because I don't know how to use it) and the restore to factory setting. I have clicked on it, and it has given me an error (pictures follow.) F2-F8-F12- pressed them all.
