In the past 2 days I have been unable to get my onboard audio working. I tried reinstalling windows on another drive and still no success. It shows all of the ports as disconnected except for the Digital Audio out.I tried updating the BIOS to the new .CAP format but with no success. Not sure what test to make to see if the sound chip went bad. Ideas?

The mobo is an Asus Rampage 2 gene. I can't see anything about it in bios, or on their website.
Do all mobo's have this nowdays? Or is it only laptop motherboards?
Ps I can't check at this point using win7 itself because I've only got win7 professional installed and have to go change it to ultimate or enterprise so it has bitlocker (I think). I can't see it listed under devices/security, altho I don't know if this is because of the version of win7 or because the mobo doesn't have TPM.
one day it worked and the next day it didn't. I checked all connections are ok, control panel fix found no problems. There used to be a different icon and in it was a mute button, I can't find this icon there are icons that say mute/ and I have tried toggling on and off nothing seems to work?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA month ago, I got my brand new, very nice Aurora R4 Alienware computer. A week after that the Realtek HD Audio Manager stops working every time I start my computer. It is very annoying. I still get sound, although now after trying to troubleshoot it, Vent tells me Direct Sound can't be enabled because it can't find a driver. Which of course is even more annoying.

Now when I turn on my pc its on the screen that says press ctrl alt delete to restart and I can't even use my keyboard or mouse. Recently my computer has been force closing applications like Photoshop and Windows Explorer. It usually happens when I right click in Explorer or try to open anything in Photoshop. I have an HP pavilion zv5000 laptop with the speakers on the front and the audio control buttons on the front and i have tried all the fixes i could find on other threads including: replacing the drivers from realteks website and making sure that the audio device is set to default. My?

I ordered a Dell Studio 540 refurb and when it arrived I noticed the analog inputs/outputs weren't recognized in the realtek audio manager. So yesterday I bought these quadrophonic speakers from a friend. The problem is, that only front right is working (everywhere- in test, windows sound, music, games etc.)... I thought that the other speakers might be bad, switched them but no- now when the FR speaker is the different one, it is still working and the others are not... I plugged the green wire in the green socket, the black one (rear) in the black socket, confirmed it in the realtek manager (front speakers, rear speakers)... I tried setting it to other mods (5.1, 7.1), it�s the same, only front right speaker is working... I downloaded the newest driver (2.52 or whats the newest one) both from gigabyte and realtek...When I plug the green wire in my notebook headphones socket, both speakers work ok (I have Windows 7 ultimate on my notebook to, but the sound card is not realtek hd)...

For nearly half of the .exe files I attempt to open, I get this stupid "---.exe has stopped working" (where --- represents the name of the file). The files I'm trying to open are not video game files, but rather program files.I am currently working on a 64-bit system. I have only had this machine for 2.5 weeks.

At first when i reboot my computer i get a pretty bad sound at startup when i play a mp3 song or open a video but the sound totally disappears after 3-5 seconds to never come back again until a new reboot. So, for example, in Outlook where I can normally click a link within an email to go to the web page, I now can't (affecting all emails).
