one day it worked and the next day it didn't. I checked all connections are ok, control panel fix found no problems. There used to be a different icon and in it was a mute button, I can't find this icon there are icons that say mute/ and I have tried toggling on and off nothing seems to work?
View 1 RepliesA month ago, I got my brand new, very nice Aurora R4 Alienware computer. A week after that the Realtek HD Audio Manager stops working every time I start my computer. It is very annoying. I still get sound, although now after trying to troubleshoot it, Vent tells me Direct Sound can't be enabled because it can't find a driver. Which of course is even more annoying.

In the past 2 days I have been unable to get my onboard audio working. I tried reinstalling windows on another drive and still no success. It shows all of the ports as disconnected except for the Digital Audio out.I tried updating the BIOS to the new .CAP format but with no success. Not sure what test to make to see if the sound chip went bad. Ideas?

I have an HP pavilion zv5000 laptop with the speakers on the front and the audio control buttons on the front and i have tried all the fixes i could find on other threads including: replacing the drivers from realteks website and making sure that the audio device is set to default. My?

I ordered a Dell Studio 540 refurb and when it arrived I noticed the analog inputs/outputs weren't recognized in the realtek audio manager. So yesterday I bought these quadrophonic speakers from a friend. The problem is, that only front right is working (everywhere- in test, windows sound, music, games etc.)... I thought that the other speakers might be bad, switched them but no- now when the FR speaker is the different one, it is still working and the others are not... I plugged the green wire in the green socket, the black one (rear) in the black socket, confirmed it in the realtek manager (front speakers, rear speakers)... I tried setting it to other mods (5.1, 7.1), it�s the same, only front right speaker is working... I downloaded the newest driver (2.52 or whats the newest one) both from gigabyte and realtek...When I plug the green wire in my notebook headphones socket, both speakers work ok (I have Windows 7 ultimate on my notebook to, but the sound card is not realtek hd)...

For nearly half of the .exe files I attempt to open, I get this stupid "---.exe has stopped working" (where --- represents the name of the file). The files I'm trying to open are not video game files, but rather program files.I am currently working on a 64-bit system. I have only had this machine for 2.5 weeks.

After disabling all startups and services other than MS, succeeded in getting the drivers installed. Now I'm trying to clean the crap out of the computer, one of which is "Amazon Links". I'm hoping fr soem input on a recent issue that I've started to encounter where Windows 7 'freezes' and my only option is a 'hard reset' via held power button and restart.This has only started happening in the last week or so, and seems to only (and nearly always) happen after I've shut down a game (one of several) running via Steam.The games themselves will work fine, but after I come back out to desktop/Steam then Windows will stop to respond after a couple of instructions. Ctrl-Alt-Delete will fail to bring up the Task Manager screen etc.

My network admin tried to reset my password and even created a new user for me. Inexplicably a new problem arose. Clicking icons on the desktop or the start menu stopped working. I found that opening the file location and clicking the .exe did work.The problem remained when logging in as the local administrator.I found that the problem occurs on all .LNK files.System Restore to a month ago had no effect. Am I mistaken in believing that this proves that the problem isn't in the registry? I did a full disk virus check using the ESET a/v software on the computer as well as with MalwareBytes. No effect.
