Alternative Email Program In Windows 7?
May 5, 2012The users here can't stand WLM with its over-busy interface and buried everyday functions and so I found a nice simple email prog called Sylpheed. It is very easy to use and quick. It works fine with one exception. It is not listed in default program options ( like it didn't exist) and so if you try to email out of an app, you are told no program is installed.

Apr 22, 2012whenever I try to install a game or program (happens more often for games), the setup process freezes at random intervals. Not the kind of freeze where it crashes or gets the 'not responding' error message, but I can't click anything or advance to the next part of the setup until it goes away. It's really strange, and only started happening two weeks ago. I'm running Ultimate 32-bit.

Apr 25, 2012About 2 weeks ago I made a mistake cleaning up installer files. I'd made this same mistake last year but didn't realize it right away and it caused all my MSO links to stop working unless I launched the root program. That time I re-installed MSO14 and it corrected everything. This time I caught the problem almost immediately, as files I r.clicked on launched a Win Installer window, which I had to cancel or wait to resolve, and another popup asked for a disc to a program, and after canceling that the normal popup menu arrived. I only had to do this once with my Opus Directory program (replacement for Explorer).
I restored the files I'd cleaner and a registry b/u but some damage remained. For whatever reason, MSO would not allow re-install although it was registered in CP. Other programs I wanted to remove would no uninstall. Windows update was having problems with NET Framework 4 update. (Solved that by repairing the file). So I have this ongoing problem with Explorer no program association, can't d.click on links to open files in MSO, and Win Installer trying to launch on r.clicks or d.clicks on files. I've search the net extensively on these problems and seen many similar complaints about various programs showing the "no program associated" error etc. But no solid solutions.
I believe the problem is in Explorer and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to repair Explorer. There is a possibility Explorer itself is OK, because when doing a re-image this weekend to go back to the 15th and start over, explorer opened when needed by the MS engine behind restore operations. The other possibility is with Installer, but I've updated the Installer and various other things to no avail. Finally there is MSO and something corrupt there.

May 15, 2012Win 7 Pro, Core i7, GB drives. Need to BU WORD documents and photos, soon digital camcorder films. Used Genie8 for years happily as the BU images on EHD can be read in clear. Then it stopped being able to save to follow on optical disks. Come to end of life. The company has been splendid in support too. Bought Genie Timeline Pro 2012 on trust but it is chalk and cheese, wildy different and not for me. Took all night to BU initially, etc. Incredibly if the EHD is not left connected all the time, it keeps on doing BU on the machine it's self! Now what is the point of BU on a machine that can be stolen or destroyed in a fire etc. ?

Aug 11, 2012I tried windows 7 for a year, I am done, I just can't do it.I absolutely hate the explorer and just about everything else.I have done everything I can to adjust and just can't do it. I am going to have to revert back to XPP.I really want a 64 bit process for the memory access.I want something as close to XPP or W2k as possible.Has anyone tried XPP64? I have tried classic shell its better but still not XPP.I already have a Linux box, its great Love it, definitely the future unfortunately a lot of the programs I need are still windows and I need 64bit.I used server 2003 briefly its pretty good, but I know nothing about 2008. Is 2008 explorer closer to XP or vista/7.This will be for a brand new 6 core I7 Desktop that I will build. I do not care one bit about support or updates, I turn auto updates off and only update when there is a new SP.I will not really be using windows much except for swapping files and a few simple windows program and thus the need for a good explorer. Most of my time will be spent in virtual machines.

I restored an Acronis full back up that I had done just a few hours earlier but it didn't change anything.My techie tried to tell me I had viruses (but they were just screen saver files with weird names) and still he couldn't fix it.Trying to reinstall from my upgrade CD (I had Vista before) doesn't work as it reports that it found errors but can't correct them. Also it would be nice to add new tracks in a random order to places within the list. The main thing is to listen to something new rather than repeat stuff. My list mainly consists of favourites and will probably not exceed 1000 items.

Jan 21, 2012I have 64 bit windows 7. I deleted dungeon siege 2 using the control panel, remove program. It was removed except for one file in Program files x86/microsoftgames/dungeonSiege2. I tried manually deleting it but get this "the action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program. Close folder or file or retry" There is nothing open. I clicked properties of the file and security and clicked administrator and get the same message. Never had this problem removing remnants of programs in xp.

When I go to change it to use it a different default page, it sets it as the different page (or even default) but then when I reopen FireFox, it goes back to the default B of A page.
I ran virus scanner and windows defender and there appears to be no virus or anything wrong with my comp in regards to that..
