I was recently following this thread to optimize and tweak my desktop a little bit, and even though I avoided the parts of the thread involving disabling Aero, it has disabled itself anyway and I can't seem to get it working again. Is there information on tweaking memory usage, I want to keep memory usage to minimum so that he won't have memory problems. I already suggested he should upgrade to 1GB, but for the time being I would like to know if there is way to tweak the memory usage, like stop services that are not needed or frequently used.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi recently got an update from microsoft on win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating i had no sound in any application (aim, skype, chrome, firefox, Internet, etc.). this has happened before, and i ran microsoft's sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it.this time when i ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. i am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with ms updates. will downloadi can't go back to a previous configuration, i don't have one to go to
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!
Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.
I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.
I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.
My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).

I tried to customize my PC with a paid version of WindowBlinds. It is a 7 theme and compatible but it still has some of the Aero items still attached (light blue shading on bars, highlights and the like).

I've tried clearing the .wmdb files in the "%userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player" folder, but it appears that WMP is not able to populate any of my files in its "Library" (I don't actually use WMP, I use Winamp).I had it working in the past but don't know what I have changed. Went to Toshiba site and downloaded and ran the TVAP. It got rid of the Microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter and we still can't get the wifi to enable. Unfortunately she does not remember which update it was that she performed.

When I start my computer up I get a black screen, no matter if it's a normal started up or in safe mode. I'm totally unable to login or do anything, the screen turns black before anything comes up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to be dynamically turning on the Clicklock function. It happens often (multiple times a day) when I'm using Sibelius music notation software. It may have happened once in my email client (Thunderbird) but in no other circumstances. I think that rules out the mouse hardware. And I'm almost certain it happened with a different mouse, a different PC, and different operating system (WinXP PS3), but I can't confirm that.Is there a way an application like Sibelius can programmaticallly turn on Clicklock? (The Sibelius support folks don't think it's their problem.)

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy pc was running fine. i was playing a game for a few hours. i then left the room for a few mins n when i returned to my pc it had shut down. i tried to turn it bk on and nothin. no fans leds nothing. i unplugged everything for a min then plugged bk in and retried to power up. nothing....so i unplugged everythin again n went to bed. then this morning i plugged everythin bk in hit the power switch n guess wot. it booted up with the usual options after an unexpected shut down. safe mode, safe mode with netwrk n so on.so i booted into safe mode n all was fine.

However, whenever I restart my comp, Aero disables again. so , if I reinstall my graphics drivers every time i boot there wouldn't be an issue, but thats a bit annoying. So I ran the windows diagnostic tool for aero and it told me that my desktop window manager was disabled. So I ran services.msc and found the desktop window manager in the list, only it said that hte desktop window manager was in face running and operational. [code]
