I know there are motherboards coming out now that include inbuilt software allowing you to modify your bios from within windows, but is there a way of doing this that isnt specific to the motherboard? Some universal method?

I start the computer ( equipped with Windows 7 Pro ) and try to access BIOS.I do this by pressing and holding the DEL key but Windows starts without accessing BIOS !Is there another way to do get BIOS setup ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo my laptop (acer aspire 5745g) has stopped working.I was using it normally until i received the blue screen of death and it shut down.From then on, i tried to turn on the laptop and it would show me the windows loading page then it simply turns black with a flashing _ in the top left.Rarely when i turn it on it loads up normally but it seems to have even stopped doing that.I did some of my own research and many people suggest hd failure or ram?If it is as simple as above i can buy the hd or ram and install an os myself.
p.s. I can see the hd in the bios and i used an external hard drive enclosure for my 2.5"" sata on another computer to which my surprise i was able to extract the C drive files.
I can't access my bios and get msg missing bootmgr enter ctrl alt delete to restart, I can't use my win 7 disk or any other disk to fix this because my computer won't read it, and I can't get into the bios to reset the boot priority. I can't use a zip drive cause the computer won't read that either. All I seem to be able to do is hit ctrl, alt, del. but why do that is it doesn't boot my rig. when I put the drive into my second computer, windows is there, and the boot manager is there too. I want to use this computer for a folding contest on May 15.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq 6530b laptop and am running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I want to enable bluetooth on the laptop, but the Device Manager says it is disabled in the BIOS and to activate it with F10 on boot.. the problem is it asks for a BIOS password and I keep guessing and cant figure out what it is! Is there a simple way to reset the BIOS password or crack it? I took out the CMOS battery and waited 10 minutes, but that didnt do anything.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am currently unable to access my bios because of the TrueCrypt Boot Loader. This also means I can't change my boot order to boot into a cd. The boot order was messed up, and whenever the password is entered it just says "No available partition" and then shuts down, so I have to press [ESC] to avoid the boot loader. And this skips any chance to enter the bios.Is there any way to fixmbr/fixboot without booting into a USB or CD?The only other way would be to remove my hard drive and get a new one to install windows on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
so i did a bios update, and it wont boot after the update.its a asus m4a79xtd evo (rev 1.01g)i dont have a backup of the bios

On HP's advice, I just updated the BIOS on my laptop. It's currently stuck at Verifying New Bios Image, and it's at 100% - It's been stuck that way for a half-hour plus.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.
On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).
On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.
The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.
Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).
I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete.So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect.My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.

Our Xfinity Cable/WAP modem sits on the top floor of our house. I am located in the basement. I am taking the Cisco Network Academy classes and am familiar with network terminology and concepts. However, what I'm trying to do is take a router/WAP (using it downstairs where I'm located) and configure it to access our xfinity modem upstairs, so that I can plug in to it downstairs using a RJ-45.
Let me know what yall think. By the way the router/wap i would be using is a netgear model unknown at this moment but could easily find out.
i have my (main) desktop hooked up with mapped folders which my two other computers (laptop wireless and wired and desktop wired) can access and do what i intended them to with sharing restrictions, etc.However, my 2nd laptop that after a struggle connecting it to the homegroup will not allow access to any mapper folders keeps popping up with a login screen for THAT laptop, and my others will not connect to it properly.

Neither ASUS or HP are willing to provide any free support.This is somewhat frustrating as the BIOS in situ appears to be the original 2003 version. I could have easily updated this to the latest version before I upgraded the OS to Windows 7, but now it is to late.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am able to get into the BIOS with both USB and PS/2 devices (Keyboards, etc.) but one I boot into Windows I am completely unable to log on. Keyboard does not work, and neither does the mouse. They both light up, but I am unable to get other things to activate (caps lock key, etc.) and key presses do not work. This is with either USB keyboards and mice, PS/2 keyboards and mice, or a mix of the two (or all four attached at once!). Going into safe mode does not work -- once again, anything USB-based or PS/2-based ceases to function once windows boots, and therefore I am unable to log on in order to diagnose the issue.
I have re-set my BIOS to the default settings, and have removed anything which may provide my system with additional IRQ's -- including both serial ports and my LPT port (yes, this is an older machine). I have gone into the recovery console, and things *DO* work there, strangely enough. I do have mouse and keyboard support, but bringing the machine back to a previous state (system restore) does nothing to correct the issue. As well, the first few attempts provided me with an 0x800700B7 error message (very strange!) when the restore attempt failed. I got past this issue by choosing a restore point a few days in the past.
Once in the recovery console, I notice that it seems to be strangely deficient in tools that I would actually like to use. I am unable to bring up the MMC (and thereby the hardware devices applet), nor am I able to employ gpedit.msc in order to disable the login (boot straight into Windows). Essentially, it seems that my only tools are the command line, and about the only thing that I have found that can be launched from the command line - regedit. I am running a personal copy of Windows 7 Professional, with all of the latest updates and patches. I have MSE (the newer version) installed and have also installed malwarebytes anti-malware. Nothing found to date.
I'm building a new computer without a CD drive, because I realized I have no use for it. I know that you can install W7 from a USB into a PC with an existing OS, but obviously as I am building the computer, I will have to install the OS into the BIOS. I am getting a Biostar A880G+, but I'm not sure what BIOS it uses. Note: when I asked this question on Yahoo! Answers, many people thought that I was trying to update the BIOS with a USB, which is already a feature of the A880G+, but that's not what I am doing!
