Win7 And XP HP 7350 Printer Sharing

Dec 25, 2009

I am running Win7x64 and a HP7350 Photosmart printer. To get the printer to work the Windows 7 driver is used for a Deskjet 5550. Works fine. I would like to use the printer on my Linksys network as it did when my desktop was an XP. The driver is only available through the Windows 7 OS, not as a download for Windows 7. the download for XP doesn't work. The driver is incompatible. Is there a way around this?

What Is The Difference Between Local Disk C And Local Disk D

Feb 3, 2013

What is the difference between local disk C and local disk D? I have about 4 GB space left in C and D is empty. Is there any advantage in putting a system image on D? Are both C and D contained in the hard drive, and if the hard drive goes bad you lose it all anyway?

Log Onto A Windows User Through A Local Network?

Dec 10, 2012

I also got Windows Server 2012 and 2008 from being a student for free. I have a few programs I would like to be able to run 24/7 and this seems like a good solution. The thing is I don't have a ton of space right now so I would like to only need 1 monitor/mouse/keyboard. I also would rather not use a KMV. At my school we are able to log onto our windows user account on any computer in the school by connecting through the local network. I would love to somehow set this up on my new server and regular PC but don't know what its called or how to research it. It seems very similar to a VPS or remote desktop but is not really either.

Windows Disables USB Controller Its Connected

Aug 22, 2011

So I've had sudden trouble with my webcam in the last two days, which is kind of irritating because I rely on it a lot. Specifically, when I try to activate my webcam, Windows disables the USB controller its connected to, reporting "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43.)" I've tried the webcam on another computer and had no problems. Disabling/reenabling doesn't do anything, neither does using a different USB port. I've tried the other solutions I've found online, including running the Hardware troubshooter, taking the battery out of my laptop, and unplugging the power for a couple of hours. I've removed the USB controllers, and restarted my computer.

Wireless Connected But Windows Thinks It's Not

Jan 27, 2011

I'm currently connected to the internet through a wireless network to post this thread. If I open the wireless network connections, under the list of network names, it says I'm connected. However, the taskbar icon shows no connection, and Windows recognizes no connection if, for example, I go to the Network and Sharing Center. This image shows what I mean. This problem applies to every wireless network, not just specific ones. This has been going on for almost a year, and hasn't really caused any problems, so I paid it no notice. However, I'm now discovering some problems. Since Windows thinks I'm not connected to a network, I can't do any of the following things:Create or join a homegroup Stream media to an XBox 360 Change network security settings (home/private/public) Pass Ubisoft DRM checks for a network connection?

System:

Gateway NV5909h
Windows 7 home premium x64 (OEM)
Atheros AR5B93 wireless network adapter
Intel core i3-330m

Cannot Ping Windows 7 From Other Connected Computers

Apr 23, 2011

I have setup a test LAN with 4 computers, 3 running different versions of Ubuntu and one running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Until three days ago I did not have a problem pinging between any of the computers. My project is build one of the Ubuntu boxes to be the gateway/router/firewall/VPN server for the LAN. On Thursday I suddenly could not ping the Win 7 box from any of the Ubuntu boxes. The Win 7 box can ping any of the Ubuntu boxes. But what is even worse, I no longer am able to connect via Putty from the Win 7 box to any of the Ubuntu boxes.

I have disconnected the LAN from internet access and turned off the firewall on each of the boxes. I have checked all network settings. I have searched the internet for an answer. All without success. The only clue I have to the cause of the problem is that on Wednesday night Windows 7 performed an automatic update. In my focus on building the gateway/router/firewall/VPN server I failed to do two critical things on the Win 7 box. Turn off automatic updates and create recovery points. How I can correct the ping and Putty problems short of reinstalling Win 7?

MS Windows 7 Ultimate Is Connected To Homegroup

Jun 11, 2012

I recently bought a used PC with MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit preinstalled. This had been set up and used by the previous owner, and connected to a Network/ Homegroup.

This is now causing me problems, as a lot of the folders and documents are PW protected, "I think", and I cannot get access to these, due to "no permissions" I have a PST file which I want to import, but, cannot do so, because of a permissions problem. Hope this makes sense? Should I remove this Copy of MS Windows 7 Ultimate, and purchase a new copy, with it's own serial key.

Windows 7 Only Connects When Win Vista Is Connected

Jul 10, 2012

I have a strange issue with my wifi network at home. I have 2 notebooks, one with Windows Vista and another, recently bought, with Windows 7.

The Win Vista notebook connects wirelessly with no problems. The Win 7 one, only connects when the former is connected :S

If I disconnect the Windows Vista notebook, I cannot even access the wireless router from the other notebook. The moment I reconnect it again, the Win 7 notebook connects again, almost instantly.

I have a linksys WRT54G-TM router. I havent found any firmware updates for this exact model.

Windows 7 Crashes When Internet Connected

Jun 4, 2011

I've just started to encounter a problem with Win7. My PC is fine until I connect to the net using wireless. I use a dongle and can connect it to the PC without issue and everything works correctly. However when I connect to the internet my pc freezes and thats it I need to forcefully restart. I've tried closing programs in the taskmanager so I'm left with the bare essentials but something is killing it. I've tried booting in safe mode with networking and this WILL work and allows me to browse and work the PC as normal, however booting back in normal mode produces the same issue. I've tried a clean boot and booted with only system requirements and not any startup items but the problem persists.

Windows 7 Workgroup Not Accessible From Local Machine

Sep 18, 2012

I have 2 PC's, both running Windows 7 Enterprise x86. The main PC has an internal drive and an external USB drive, both of which have shares a plenty. Until yesterday they worked fine. If I type \main-pc (from the main-pc) I can see all the shares but when I try and access them I get the message 'check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network'. The network diagnostic wizard doesn't find a problem. If I type \192.168.72 , which is the main-pc ip, into the run line, it cannot access the workgroup browse list and comes back with the same message about checking the spelling. The second PC can access the main PC shares without any problem at all, including via Ip address. When I ping the netbios name I am returned a valid IP.

Here's what I have done so far:
- Reinstalled the network card, tried another network card.
- Reinstalled client for ms networks and file and printer sharing.
- Completely disabled IPV6 using the DisabledComponents reg fix.
- Ran NETSH resets on winsock and ip stack.
- Reerun the network wizard, renamed the workgroup, changed the PC name, fiddled with homegroup (enabling/disabling), removed security software, disabled the firewall, disabled firewall through policy, uninstalled all windows updates in the last week.

I've used the net view command and can confirm all workgroup services are running. If I type net view I can see my PC..but the problem isn't just accessing my PC, I get exactly the same problem now when I try and access the second PC, which works fine if your on it locally. It could be the server service which the browser service requires, I've paused it and my results don't change but not sure how to troubleshoot that. I've had a go at some reg fixes and modified some security polices but have since put it all back the way it was. Might be worth mentioning I have had a network bridge active between 2 network cards but has never been an issue. I've removed the bridge and tried in both cards separately as well.

Way To Point Windows Updates To Local Directory

Sep 20, 2011

I now have 3 Windows 7 PCs (and a few XPs I want to update), and want a couple more, but updating & keeping them that way with my limited-bandwidth/speed ISP is a real challenge! I've tried to utilize the MS Update Catalog so that I only have to download individual updates Once, and I recently found Brink's excellent tutorial on getting a download directly from the WU dialog, but still this is such a chore, I assume that professionals make updating easier by using MS Update Catalog and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) but I don't run Windows Server and don't want to buy Server and build another computer just for this task.

Software To Do Local Backups On Windows 7 Ultimate

I tried using the built in Backup and Restore that came with Windows but that piece of software is "Microsoft" (i.e. hard to set up and use and constantly gives me issues), so I was wondering is there something that's easy to set up and use for local backups (something like Time Machine in OS X)?

Windows 7 Won't Recognize Smart Phone When Connected Via Usb

Sep 15, 2012

Computer: Acer Aspire 5534, AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core L310 1.2 Ghz processor, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

Phone model no. not identified, but software version is vx560404.

When the phone is connected to the computer, the usb recognition sound is issued, but the "Found New Hardware" message is not displayed nor is the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon.

The phone is displayed in Device Manager (LGE CDMA Composite USB Device), and in the Control Panel item Devices and Printers (as LG Mobile Phone, LG Mobile (Modem) and LG Mobile (Serial)). However, it is not displayed in Windows Explorer (trying to transfer photos from phone to computer).

I tried running the Troubleshooter, and a message was displayed that said a problem (not identified) was fixed. Except it wasn't. Restarting the computer did not solve the problem.

Why Does Windows Firewall Say Public Networks Connected?

-Tried Wireless and wired, (Both same results)

-Reformating the computer to get rid of any rogue programs messing the net up

Networking Two Windows 7 PCs Via Bluetooth While Connected To HotSpot?

Apr 23, 2012

I have two Windows 7 PCs on my boat. Normally they are connected to the Internet via a 3G Wireless Router; they are therefore on the same Home network, so I can access the shared folders between them.

However, occasionally I connect at least one of them to a WiFi HotSpot, to save my monthly 3G download limit. Even if I connect both of them, I can't access the shared folders, as it would be foolish to designate a Public network as a Home network.

Is it possible to maintain a permanent BlueTooth network between them, regardless of what they are doing via WiFi?

Windows 7 / Wireless Network - Media Not Connected

May 28, 2010

I have been messing with my daughter's computer (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J with Windows 7 professional) for days now and cannot connect to the wireless network that our other two laptops running Vista work fine on. This all started when my router went wonky and I had to go buy another power adapter for it. For some reason (I realize this is illogical.) I've been unable to get her back to our wireless network since then. Things I've tried:

1. Unplugged, reset both router and modem probably 50 times.
2. Connected her laptop directly to the router and confirmed the router settings that way.
3. Uninstalled wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi link 5100 AGN) and let startup re-install (numerous times)
4. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for said adapter
5. Copied my network settings from working laptop to the one that won't connect.
6. Deleted the network and recreated it (numerous times)
7. Tried to ping router unsuccessfully. (general failure)
8. System restore to a few different dates when said laptop WAS connecting.
9. Reset all the router settings via 192.168.1.1 (New name, SSID, key, etc.)Then created new network on non-connecting laptop with new settings.

I can see the wireless network, that's not the issue. However, I can't connect to it. I ran ipconfig/all and the adapter is listed as "media not connected". I'm using WPA2-personal for security if that matters. The only other think I can think of that it may be would be her antivirus software causing an issue. But then again, she had the same software installed and running a week ago and it wasn't an issue.
