Windows Update Vista X 64
Dec 2, 2007
I have Windows Vista X64 Ultimate and every time i want to format my hard drive and reinstall Vista, i need to remove 2 gigs of RAM, since i get a blue screen during the installation of Vista because i have 4 gigs of RAM. So i need to then get this update "Windows6.0-KB929777-v2-x64.msu". My question is.....is there anyway to integrate this update into a back up copy of my Vista disc?. It's abit anoying to keep removing 2 gigs every time i want to install Vista.

1.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

Is anyone else having problems installing this speific KB937287 update? I am unable to get it to stop showing up in my 64-bit Vista UE's Windows Update even though it was a success. All other today's updates were fine except one (KB937287 failed) and then rebooted, but now KB937287 keeps showing up even after successful installs.

That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office. Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.
In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it. Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...

I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.

The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.

I installed the vista 64 system updates. I found that this caused my system update to fail. upon using these forums I found that others with this issue, could not get this to be fixed, without reinstalling/repairing of the operating system..
what I found was microsoft office SP2 was the cause of the problem..the trusted installer was missing in the windows servicing folder....

When I checked Windows Update today, 2nd Tuesday of March, I found only one new Vista update (.5 MB) which actually has a date of Feb 12th. I thought SP1 would be available today for the "first wave (English)" version. I'm using Ultimate installed by the manufacturer and have kept it up to date (except for hiding unneeded updates like the foreign language stuff and the test for counterfeit versions). Microsoft has a web page listing the SP1 roll-up files which also says that the service pack will contain additional files not in the list: "This document contains a list of these updates with links to their descriptive web pages on. There are other updates in Windows Vista SP1 which have not be released as updates and therefore are not presented in this list."

I'm running Vista Service Pack 1 on a Fujitsu Tablet PC (T4220). For several days, I've been unable to install the Vista Security Update KB971657. The update downloads, my machine reboots, and then an error message comes up "Updates not configured correctly." The machine shuts down, reboots, and then gives the message "reverting changes." When I go to Windows Update in the Control Panel, I see that the update failed, but no error code appears. So far I have:
1. Disabled my antivirus program (Kaspersky), and tried to download and install again, but no luck.
2. Done a clean boot by changing the settings in the System Configuration Utility, rebooted, and tried to download and install again, with no luck. In reading through this section of the forum, I see at least one case in which an update wouldn’t install because the user has Service Pack 1 but should have SP2. Should I try downloading SP2 and see if this resolves the problem? Though I’m curious why Microsoft hasn’t installed SP2 automatically on this machine since my settings are for automatic installation of updates.

I installed the SP1 update which stopped my system from working resulting in an error "DXC0000034!! 250/69843". Seems a number of people have been a victim of this. To get round this I could not restore to a point earlier than when I updated Vista therefore I have installed vista again over the old version! This allows me to access Vista but I now cannot install programs such as Windows Live, iTunes or update Vista (get a 8007000B error).

My laptop, Toshiba model M305D, has been down about 6 days. I went to microsoft technical, put in a request but got no reply. This is the first problem I've had since buying the laptop new August, 2008. It has an AMD 64 bit processor and runs Vista home premium 64 bit. It has been kept up-to-date with windows update.
THE PROBLEM: The last time it was receiving updates it became stuck in a loop. It was processing update stage 3 of 3 at the 96% complete point when it restarted the computer to complete installation. Only, it keeps restarting and going through this update install process. It does this over and over.
I used the F8 on startup method to get to a help screen hoping to get into the safe mode. I got to the help screen.
The computer will not go into the "safe mode" using any of the choices presented on this screen, but instead goes right back to update screens described above when one of the choices is selected. I had hoped to get access to restore but could not.
How can I get past this to get back up and running?

I've heard that some previous Sonix updates to HP laptops caused problems with the built-in web cam. Will this be another one like that?

Just wondering why the reported Physical Memory in the Task Manager drops to 14%, after an hour or so, from 28% when initially starting the system. Processes drop from 49 to 46. Mainly Trustedinstaller and winupdate processes. I know some applications check for updates upon boot, but I kind of disabled most (if not all) of them except Vista updates. Also one of the many svchost.exe starts off with a reported Commit Size of 177K and later is down to 155K. This of course is not a problem. Just Vista64 curious!

New Vista Home Premium 64bit user here. On my WinXP Pro PC, when I do the Microsoft Updates, I see Express and Custom update options. I like the option to install critical Express updates and be able to choose Custom updates for software or hardware. On my Vista Laptop, I don't see the Express and Custom options any more. Does Microsoft Updates for Vista Home Premium 64bit just install all the updates regardless now? Is there a link to an explanation of the new Vista 64bit update philosophy?

A Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista. There are several problems that all seem related but the most obvious one is that I can't update Vista. It is set up to update automatically. However, the "New Updates are Available" Icon appears on the task bar. If I click on it a window comes up and immediately disappears. If I hunt through the help menus until I find a link that says "Click to open Windows Update" the same thing happens: a window opens and immediately shuts. Similarly if I go to the control panel and click Windows Update nothing happens.
If I right click on it and choose Explore a window comes up but it is empty. The Default Programs icon is similarly unresponsive. If I click on the Windows Defender Icon and click on that and say to update, it returns error 0x8007045a. In addition to that, the backup/recovery thing returns errors. And when I try to run Ad-Aware it hangs. All of these failures are related to security
