when i insert my windows vista update disk, the computer reads it then ejects it with no error message or anything. i installed XP on in a few days ago and activated but didnt register it. i figured that this was happening because i didnt register it but now i cant find where to register the XP.

I have installed Vista Premium 32 bit I have a net gear wireless pci card and have jsut installed Vista sp1 premium on my com fresh after I though it was some thing I have installed wrong on my com as I can not dl any updates from microsoft or dl any thing from microsoft web pages eg windows messenger. I keep getting a error number on my updates as follows : code 8054402c and from the webpages from microsoft it jsut come up with a can not diisplay page after i click download. I keep getting the low disc space on C: error message, and when I click on My Computer, it says I only have 189 MB of free space on the C: drive. However, when I click on the C drive, highlight all the folders, and click Properties, it says I am using 26 GB of space next to "size on disk". I tried to solve this problem about a week ago by moving 30 gigs of music to an external hard drive, but the C drive has filled up again even though I have not added anything to the C drive. I've also tried using disk cleanup and defrag, but that hasn't worked. This seems like a pretty serious problem. What's the deal?

I did this and got the message that windows couldn't start, this could be down to a change recently made etc etc. It then said to fix it
1- insert windows disk and reboot
2- select language and click next
3- Choose repair my computer
I did this but when I clicked repair my computer it didn't show any OS in the box to repair! It just says "If you did not see your OS in the list, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard disk"

Subject ..., Account: 'verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. Downloading incoming mail is not a problem, and I obviously can post to newsgroups. Although this is a new problem, I turned off Norton's checking of outgoing mail - no change. Verizon had us change to Port 587 last year so that's not the issue either. WM does send e-mail from my desktop so apparently the problem is specific to the laptop.

It reads "Per user queued Windows Error Repo..." I can't expand the window to read it all. The size is 104GB! (as in Gigabytes). There is also a couple of other files with similar names : per user archived Windows Error Repo...System archived Windows Error Repo..., System queued Windows Error Repo..., My question is can I delete these files safely so I can reclaim some disk space without messing up anything?

When trying to launch the game i get this error message: This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the applicatio n may fix the problem. I have tried re-installing with no luck.
Microsoft then tells me that the problem is with directx 9 and gives me a link to update the end user run-time installer. Which sounds like a perfect and easy fix.Turns out that no matter what version or update i try to install I am screwed. I get this error message upon the initializing phase of the install: An internal system error occured: Please refer to the dx.error log or the Dx.log in your windows folder.
As i said it does not matter what version of directx i try to update i get the same message. Can I not play Civ 4 on vista? I have heard maybe the compatibility mode might fix but I am unsure how exactly to do that right. I have tried a few times...Also spent hours on the phone with game support
I want to backup my emails in Win Mail (Vista home premium) - all of them so theres hundreds of them in dozens of folders I have created. So I go file - export - messages, select a format, select an EMPTY folder on my 1TB external drive, then try to export. I either get an error message telling me that some files may be corrupt, or that the destination folder may be too small. Or if I select just a tiny folder to export, it says export successful, but it only exports ONE email - the top one in the list I think? I really dont think I have corrupted files here - any folder I select to export seems to have a problem... as my motherboard is flakey, and I want to do the backup ASAP before it 'flakes' again!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI changed the Boot sequence to CD first, then HDD. Everything ran fine and vista seemingly loaded perfectly. After moving some files from my backup drive back onto my main one and installing some drivers, I was asked to restart my computer (for the drivers) so I did. Remembering that the boot sequence was still set on CD first, and since my driver CD was still in the drive, I decided to set the boot sequence back to the way I had it with XP: HDD and then CD. After doing this I quit BIOS and tried to boot, but I kept getting a message saying: DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
So I restarted the computer again, this time with my Vista CD in the drive, and again, the computer wouldn't boot and told me to enter a boot disk. Not knowing what to do, I went back into BIOS and changed the boot sequence back to CD first, then HD. After doing this, and restarting with the Vista CD in the drive, my computer booted up with no problems whatsoever. I tried reinstalling Vista (twice), reformatting the target hard drive, changing the boot sequence around, pretty much everything I could think of......

View 9 Replies View Relatedi installed windows xp first on my 1tb hard drive on a partition that worked fine, then i installed vista 64bit on a second partition and that was fine i got the option to dual boot and everything was fine. Now i decided to get rid of the xp partition because i wasnt using it so i copied all the files i wanted from it and put it in my vista partition then i used geparted (3rd party partition tool) to format my xp partition.
I then restarted my pc and get a error please insert system disc, now i think the problem is because the xp was first to install that has all the boot records on it so when i formatte dthe partition i deleted the boot files etc etc. I used my vista recovery disc and used the command prompt to try and re write the mbr using bootrec.exe/fixmbr and /fixboot and a few pther option but nothing worked. I had a similar problem a while ago i wrote a simialr command using the recover console to re write the whole mbr but cant remember what it was.Now i have reinstalled vista on the xp partition and can get access to my other vista partition but really want to make the other partition bootable again..........

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe other night I was in a rush and I held down the power button until it shut off. the next day I tryed turning it on and after the MB homepage came up for 3 secs on the top left hand corner of the screen it said "Disk boot failure, please insert boot disk and press enter" so i fooled around with the priority settings a little bit and nothing worked. I then inserted the windows vista CD and it would say "Loading windows files" then the loading bar came up and it would always freeze at the same point and after about a minute a blue screen came up saying a problem occured and is shutting off the computer to prevent further damage. Iv tryed everything. could my hard drive be damaged or something? Please someone help me. I cant work with much because i cant even get into windows! :-( All i can work with is the Setup menu

I have had a read through the update logs, and the error code I am getting is : 0x800b0001. A quick google lead me to belive that this was a problem with cryptographic service provider: Error code when you try to use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates: "0x800B0001". anyway, I tried both of the fixes listed on the page and to no avail. When I tried the software fix, it proceeds to the update, but just pauses about 75% in. when I tried the registering .dll option, the .dll registered but the computer still does not update.

Everytime I try to either read or burn a CD/DVD a message comes up saying "please insert a CD/DVD in E Drive". I've looked in the device manger folder, there is no error message or symbol, but it says that the device is working properly. I've already updated the drivers from the Dell web site & still nothing.
Dell are wanting £120 for a tech man to come & look at it & a further £80 for a new drive if required, because it is out of warranty. I even thought about buying an external rewriter, but would like to try & fix the problem myself first. If anyone can help in anyway I'd be extremely grateful. I'm not a geek when it comes to fixing comps, but I am good if given instructions.
Club member's computer. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. When I first picked it up, no shortcut link to a program would work. I drilled down to the executible files; winword.exe, excel.exe, iexplore.exe and then double click. The error message went something like this: "This file does not have a program associated with it from performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associtation Control Panel." There was no way to "restore to a previous... No dice. With a start up disk, was able to solve that problem.
Disk Cleanup removed 2.45MB. Uninstalled Trend Micro (subscription had expired a year ago!) Installed and updated AVG 9 Free ran a complete scan - nothing. I installed Malwarebytes and it found one insignificant cookie. I went to Windows Update, the first update offered was Service Pack 1. It installed. I downloaded and attempted to install Service Pack 2. Error 0x8004100a with a link to a web page that offered several means of installing the service pack; Windows Update -- found a few insignificant updates, download the SP2 installation file which I had already done, so I did it again. No dice.
I have some strange problems with my comp security. I cannot update windows - error 8024402C In Help I found that I have to turn off Firewall, Antivirus,anti-spyware software, while downloading and installing updates.I checked my Windows Security Center and found out that I have 2 Firewalls Windows Firewall and McAfee on at the same time. I recently purchased Windows Vista Premium upgrade for my Computer. I installed it as an upgrade and it worked for a little bit then it needed to downloaded updates. After it downloaded the updates it said it needed to install them and close windows and reopen. So it closed and when Windows reopend it said that the updates had an error and needed to reload and shut down and restart. Then it did it again and again and again. So being disgusted with the whole thing I did a clean install. Now what my problem is, is that when I try to activate windows online it says that my version of Windows is for upgrading not for clean install and it wont give me the option to activate by phone. How do I go about doing it by phone? What would be the phone number to do this?
