I am in the Administrator group on my own network, i am also in the Admin group of the local Vista pc, connected to a 2003 server. For some reason i do not have any Admin rights when i log on to the server. It treats me as a regular user, I think. I can't change security settings, can't install any programs, can't browse the network. Is this the way Vista is supposed to work or is something broken? And how do i get real Admin privileges?

There's a mystery drive partition on my system. confirm what it's used for/by? I'm running a triple boot of Server x64 RC2, Vista x64 SP1 RC, and Vista x86, installed on two internal hard disk drives. These are SATA drives, but not hybrids. They both have 8MB caches. (One is a Samsung HM250JI. The other is a Hitachi TravelStar 7K100.) I also have 1GB of Intel's Robson NAND. Now, in Disk Management, a 513MB (sic) FAT32 partition is there, called NVCACHE. It's listed as its own HDD, sandwiched between HDD 0 and HDD 1. So, there are two possible explanations as far as I can see: 1st candidate explanation: There's an Intel page that discusses Turbo Memory, which uses the "NVCACHE" term when describing its support for Vista ReadyDrive and "T13 specification Command Handling," which I had assumed applied just to hybrid hard drives, not to regular HDDs.
The other thing that's fishy is the 513MB cache size. Where'd the remaining 511MB go if this system has a full 1GB Robson NAND? Was I gyped out of 512MB of NAND? 2nd candidate explanation: This has something to do with the SATA caching functionality that I have enabled in the x86 partition. [See: Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> right-click on a SATA drive -> Properties -> Policies -> Enable Write Caching on the Disk -> Enable Advanced Performance.] If that's the purpose, then the question is: Do I need to confine my use of the SATA cache to one OS installation, or am I safe to enable this function in all of the OSes simultaneously? (Will overwrites by different OSes of each others' caches destabilize the system or not?)

Following the instructions to fix this doesn't work because everytime I try to do something I get a window that asks for a password for "ASP.NET Machine Account". I have no idea what the password for this account is and leaving it blank doesn't work. I have a standard login now that won't allow me to create a new account of any sort nor can I make changes to my standard user account without permission from the ASP.NET Machine Account.

I had been using the true admin account to do my everyday work (now i know i shouldn't have) also had my old admin account (both password protected) and lastnight i decided to change my SID using the NewSid program just for kicks and giggles.. the first time around it just sat there for a couple hours not managing anything but to open a new account.. the ASP.net machine account... since i had no idea what it was or what it did i chose to delete it (again, now i know i shouldn't have).. then i tried the NewSid again, only this time it worked.. it did what it was supposed to change registries and hives, and rebooted the system.. only to find out I only had my guest account, my admin and regular account were not showing up at all just the guest one is showing up yet my hard drive is still intact, and I can still see my admin and regular account folders.. just cant access them..

who has purchased a JVC Everio HDD video camera has probably learned that they chose to use some god forsaken proprietary video format - the .MOD extension. Apparently this is some sort of MPEG2 encoding, however, most major video editing suites prefer not to accept this format? what we need is something more common? such as .AVI or .MPG. I would be happy with the .MOD file format if the software that came with the JVC Everio actually worked.
I have tried many video converters software with no luck so far, it?ll get halfway through the process, and then something will fail. Now a type of converter called *'Mod Converter' appears. Here I want to share the one regarded as the best on the market by most people. I also want to share the instructions about how to use it. Step 0: Free download *'4easysoft Mod Converter 'and install it. ...........

I have been running Vista with MS Works for some time. I have never bothered to install my ols copy of MS Office XP because I only use the word processor and the one that came installed with Vista was perfectly fine. However, about a month ago I had to install Office XP because I had to send some papers to my university tutor and he could only open documents in the .doc format. However, I now find that when I try to send batches of photos with their size reduced through Windows Photo Gallery they are routed through Outlook Express on MS Office XP and there is no way to send them. There is a message bar telling me the mail has not been sent but there is no send tab. I assume this is because I no longer have Outlook Express. I can send them one at a time if I open windows mail and send them as an attachment but that is a bit tedious. My question is: how do I get the photos to route from Photo Gallery through Windows Mail rather than Outlook.

having switched to vista I use Windows Mail now instead of Outlook Express. I noticed some inconveniences, perhaps there is a way to change them: In OE, I had my contact list displayed on th left below the folder list. I don't find how to do this with WindowsMail in the View, Layout menu.-With newsgroups, the difference of the icons used to show unread/downloaded or not yet downloaded messages is marginal, you really have to look well until you can see it. In OE, the color was different which made it much easier to notice.
-Contacts are not saved into a .wab file but as own files (which doesn't make sense in my opinion). So no Addressbook and more. The real problem is, that whenever I roght-click on a contact, windows explorer crashes (APPCRASH, Explorer.EXE, 6.0.6001.18000, 47918e5d, MFC42.DLL, 6.6.8063.0, 4791a6f4, c0000005, 00028ce8, 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6, 1031, fd00, ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160, fd00, ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160).-Downloading mails, searching for text into messages, etc take much more time than in OE. Seems that the progress for Send/Receive is deliberately delayed.

I have two or three folders with over 100 e-mails in each. How do I 'file' these onto a memory stick so that I can free up space. I am being told that my mail box is nearly full, which includes the e-mails in these specific folders. I afraid I am not very computer literate and will need the answer spelt out to me.

I have windows xp pro and vista on my computer. I find I like OE 6.0 on my xp pro to be much faster than windows mail, and I need to switch to windows mail. Unfortunately, i have several accounts on windows mail, and I have forgotten their passwords. So I exported each account in windows mail, and have saved the internet account settings (in *.iaf files). When I use the import function in OE 6.0 (Tools->accounts->Import), it won't let me import any account settings. I don't remember the passwords of a few of those accounts (which currently work with windows mail), but I need to create such accounts in OE 6.0. Is there a way I can migrate account settings in windows mail to OE 6.0?

I've been running the PC since new with an adaptor for the monitor cable where this inputs to the PC. The technical side of it is beyond my knowledge but I was advised when I bought the PC that I had to use with adaptor with the secondhand monitor I have. Last year however the PC ceased to output to the monitor and by trial and error I realised that it would now only work without the adaptor.
More recently I began to experience booting problems -the PC sounds as if it is whirring into action as usual but then gets 'stuck' and there is no output whatsoever by way of error messages or anything else. The problem has been intermittent -sometimes it will boot normally other times not at all. I have run just about every HP diagnostic I could find and also the 'start up repair' (latter didn't appear to recognize a problem). The only test which failed was the PCI express status test (code MB152-15W.
Then lo and behold there was no output to my monitor a few nights ago so I used the adaptor I had dispensed with using last year and all was fine again; my suspicious mind lead me to run the PCI test again which now passed. Then tonight, again no output to the monitor -removed aforesaid adaptor again and all was well, ran the PCI test again and it failed. 2 Vista updates were automatically installed when I shut down last night but the content of them does not appear as if it would have any relevance to my problems

I bought a CFI Enclosure off newegg.com and is of the type: SiI3132 - PCI Express (1x) to 2 Port SATA300. I am able to install the card and seemingly install the drivers okay, but whenever I use the RAID software from silicon image: SiI 3132 32 & 64-bit Windows SATARAID5 Management Utility (1.51.8.10 B)
SATARAID5 Management Utility for 32 & 64-bit Windows supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. Use this tool with the latest SATARAID5 drivers and BIOS. Latest SiI3132 SATARAID5 driver:1.5.18.0; Latest SiI3132 SATARAID5 BIOS:7.4.05_;_ see the associated readme and the latest SiI3132 documents.**
The tool always gives me an error that no sil3132 drivers were found on the system. The kicker is that I can see and use all four drives in the enclosure but the java-based tool doesn't seem to be looking in the right places for the drivers.

having issues importing data from my Outlook Express 6.0 account to Outlook 2003. The move is necessary because my previous laptop is no longer bootable. I can access the data however, via my new laptop. Since I can?t boot the old drive, I can?t run Outlook Express data (so that I can export the data). The previous drive hard-drive ran XP. The new laptop runs Vista which makes Outlook Express unavailable. Is it possible to find the right files to move from the old hard-drive to the new one?
