What Caused The Upgrade Failure.

Apr 15, 2008

A couple of months ago I assembled a new PC and put Windows Vsta Business on it. I started adding other applications and moving my files then was given a copy of Vista Ultimate. I tried to do an upgrade from Business to Ultimate but after about 10 minutes received a very generic message basically saying that the upgrade couldn't continue for no particular reason and when I hit OK it undid the changes and I was back where I started.

I ran Windows Update, and checked that my sytem had the required specs (everything was above 5.0 except the video card was only rated 3.8 which is OK, I don't do gaming). I tried the upgrade a couple of times to no avail. I would have tried in safe mode but the only option was to do a clean install. I would rather not do a clean install as I have personalized everything. How can I find out what caused the upgrade failure.

Ultimate Upgrade Failure

Feb 27, 2010

Recently I purchased the Windows Vista Ultimate for one of my older computers. I did this after running the Vista Compatibility Program and given the green light to upgrade to Ultimate. My system is currently running Vista Home Basic (32 bit). I ran the Window Vista Ultimate with service pack 1, it ran its own compatibility program and I was able to continue. The installation goes smooth until the very end when windows is rebooting after the completion of the upgrade. This is where I have problems. It stops and tells me that my upgrade was unsuccessful and it’s reverting back to the previous OS, Windows Vista Home Basic.

This is very frustrating. I tried twice to install this upgrade, to include tweaking my system and making sure I had plenty of room on my hard drive. Also, I uninstalled Service Pack 2. Seeing that I did everything I could, I need to know if I have the wrong version of Windows Vista Ultimate and if so, do I need to do a clean installation, using this version.

Upgrade Failure - System Components

Mar 23, 2008

I purchased the Windows Anytime Upgrade to go from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Ultimate. The upgrade fails stating it cannot upgrade some system components and that I should check the web to see if my machine is compatible. Restart the pc and re-run setup. I ran the compatibility before I bought the upgrade, but I did it again and all of the indicators show the pc is compatible. I am logged in with Administrator rights. I had disabled Aero, so I tried re-enabling before one install attempt - same result. I disabled all Symantec services and rebooted and retried the installation.

100% CPU Usage Caused By Adobe Flash Plugin

Sep 21, 2009

So i've been dealing with 100% CPU usage for the last 3 weeks. I've narrowed down the cause to the Flash plugin for ANY browser, regardless of IE or Firefox. Anytime Flash is loaded in the browser, the CPU shoot straight up to 100% until you close the browser. I've google'd solutions for this. The only one I've seen is the all FULL CONTROL for the Everyone user on two of the Flash drives. This does not work. So I tried something else.

I reformatted and started from scratch. As soon as the Flash plugin was installed, BOOM, right to 100% CPU usage again. This happened on both Vista x64 Ultimate w/ SP2 and a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate RTM (It's a legal copy.)......

SFC Failure

Mar 23, 2008

When will Microsoft fix sfc /scannow? SFC (system file checker) returns a corrupt files found but cant fix message on new PCs. I reformated the HD and restored my Vista OS to factory. I tested a number of new laptops from various manufactures and they all have the same error message. I called Microsoft support and tier 2 support spent days then told me that the OEMs are messing up Vista. Did the OEMs add some spyware or modify the SFC utility? Why isn't there a fix for this very important repair utility?

C:Windowssystem32>sfc /scannow

HP Oem Activation Failure

Aug 10, 2009

I have a 2 month old HP tx2 notebook. It activated fine when first booted. Used it abouy a month and IE crashed with a BSOD, and upon recovery I have a notice on the bottom of the desktop that it says this copy of windows in not genuine. When I reboot it says I must activate. When I try it fails and the only options are new product key or contact HP. I called HP and they said to use the key off the bottom of the computer which does not work. They then want me to do a complete reinstall which is quite unacceptible with all the work it took to get this new machine loaded to work with.

Can i buy a new license and be sure it is going to take. Buying a new copy of home premium unfair but is way better than all the work I would have to do otherwise. The OS is home premium 64 bit. I would not want to install a new copy because of the driver issues (touchsmart), I just want to use the key. When I try to activate I get: Buy new product key online. Try a different product key Contact Hewlett-Packard to help resolve this proble Have tried option 2 and 3 to no avail.

I would try option 1 if I could be assured it would work without loss of data. HP says to reinstall the OS. They told me Microsoft does not support OEM installs. Why not? There is no phone option. when I try to input a new key I get an 0xC004E003 error. Updates work fine and all my software works as well. The desktop background does not work and it has the not genuine at the right bottom corner. There does not seem to be a count down timer either.

Startup Failure!!!

Apr 11, 2008

I don't know what's happen during the startup of Vista 32 but is the strangest startup of Windows I've never seen in the previous OS

1) Times to load Windows very long respect XP with a fast pc using CPU Intel DC2 4 2.40 GHz 4GB ram
2) Some applications don't load caused by UAC but not every startup
3) Some applications are "forget" to load or not visible in the tray
4) error messages of load failure appear but not at every startup
5) The little arrow on the tray bar that hide programs 1 time appear and 1 time don't appear and the programs are the same running and visible on the traybar. Perhaps the SP1 has resolved these problems? I use the italian version of Vista 32.

P.S: I've uninstalled daemon tool's to see if that was the cause, didn't work. I've also uninstalled SP1, didn't work, reinstalled SP1, didn't work. I'm not sure what the problem is. The third picture was made to show there is no System Restore in the System Tools area.
