View 4 Replies View Relatedafter i've logged of and logged in on a deifferent account i cannot play flash videos like from Internet. if i restart the computer flash is working fine. i'm using vista 64 home premium. have anybody encountered similar problems. i've also a weird update problem with the desktop. sometimes popup menus items images will stick on the desktop after the popup menu is already gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn my Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine - SP 2 and Internet Explorer 8 - videos from two sites will not play. The video screen displays, but the video does not load and play. The two sites: "Wall Street Journal Online" and "MSNBC Meet The Press". They are not worked since I begain using the machine. They worked ok on the XP 32 bit machine that was replaced. Videos from other sites play ok.
I've sent help requests to both places - no response at all from Meet The Press - pro-forma "thank you and we will be touch" from Wall Street Journal on October 28, 2009, and no response to a follow-up "what is the status" e-mail I sent December 14, 2009 Hence, this post. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the cause may be? (I don't know if either sites uses it, butAdobe Flash is installed in the X86 sarea and works on other pop-ups and videos. )
All the Dailymotion movies are not playing continuously more than 2 min. It stop within 2 min,Buffering is also not happening. If I try to play any flash related video in internet it doesn't play continuously. Cannot watch movie continuously. when the playing stops I have to move the progress bar then the video plays for sometimes and then again stops.
I updated the adobe shock wave latest, but still the same problem.
I tried in three browers IE, firefox, Chrome same problem in all the browsers.

I need to make videos from XP play, and I think I need CODECS, but I downloaded the vista service codec pack, and it didn't help. I am pretty much not very good at computers, but I just want to be able to play my old video files from XP, and I need to know what to do.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi use vista 64-bit and the media player that came with it plus a codec package from windows. for the past 2 years i have been very happy with it with no problems what so ever. however now, without downloading any patches, my media player has decided it won't play certain videos. i have some music videos and some films that i have downloaded and they still play just fine. but the ones i have ripped with DVD Fab (i own them btw) have since stopped working properly. they play audio but there is no video. when i play in full screen, instead of getting black like before, i get the same visualisations as if i was viewing an mp3 (the vortex/battery thing)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Media Center for XP and then Vista for a few months. Due to a random pause issue that I can't track down, I've built another MCE-HTPC and installed Vista x64. The install of Vista and hardware went about as smooth as it can get. BUT... now that I've installed my codecs and such, MCE won't play any videos. These are videos that 32-bit XP MCE and Vista MCE had no issues playing before. In fact I can even load Windows Media Player and it will play the same videos with out a problem. But once I load MCE, I get the "can not locate codec" and it refuses to play. Since I've not had problems in the past... I is there a cache or database of some kind that Vista32 might have left that now Vista64 is trying to read and it's now unable to load the videos?... also, I did update my codecs to newer versions as well... is it possible that Vista32 had "named" codecs list and now Vista64 is trying to find the same codec name... only it's changed?
View 6 Replies View RelatedLast Thursday my pc downloaded and installed the latest set of updates and since then the Internet speed has been sluggish at best and non-existant at worst.
I contacted my ISP and they did all their tests and announced that the signal was good and I might have a virus, so I got a bit paranoid and ran scan after scan (after the nightmare of trying to get the latest updates). I ran these with Zone Alarm Extreme and Spyware Doctor (but not together) and all the results were clean.
So I'm wondering if the latest Updates are to blame; one of the kids' laptops has exactly the same problem (he uses a router while I use a cable) and he downloaded the updates at the same time.
Interestingly the other kid's laptop seems to be untouched, but he has 32 bit Vista as opposed to our 64 bit, and it appears that we're all using different browsers (IE8, Mozilla and Chrome)
I downloaded and installed MS update KB980182 and now the computer runs a lot slower when I am using Internet Explorer. I have done everything I can think of to rectify the problem but it does no good. When I unistall the update, IE runs at its normal speed and when I reinstall it, the problem returns, therefore it has something to do with this update.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi was just installing some extra languages on the ultimate extra update, i just selected all the updates to download as i was in a rush go leave home, it came up to about 5gb, it wasnt a problem because i was going out for about 4 hours. i came back home, download was complete and was installing the language packs, at first i thought it was stuck because computer started to run extra sluggish, but just as i was about to restart computer the bar moved, so i just waited, just doing some browsing etc on this forum, researching and getting tips and tricks etc., despite the fact that it was still running slow..i checked the cpu usage, the cpu was fine, but with suprise, the ram was running about 1.9gb ( i have 2gb ram). first of all, is the language pack suppose to take that long to install? and is it suppose to use that much of the ram?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy CPU will idle around 30%, and my memory will idle around 40%. I have 3.5GB of ram, and a dualcore 2.4GHZ cpu. I was checking windows update, and it says it cannot download any updates, and it's most recent check was on 9/9/2008. I tried manually downloaded the windows vista service pack 1, but it keeps failing and giving me error 80070026. Some people suggested I turn off things like real time protection, so I uninstalled my McAfee virus scan, and downloaded windows defender instead. I then disabled real time protection on the window's defender. Nothing else should have real time protection, so why can't I update?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the last few days my 'pc' (http://www.vistax64.com/) takes three and half minutes to load. I did have the windows update KB954430 installed around that time. All malware and virus scans come up clean. Could this update be the problem? It takes 90 sec. to get to the welcome screen, then the screen goes black untill the programs begin to load at 195 seconds. the loading of programs seems to be in a normal time frame.

I seem to never use the battery as I am always plugged in somewhere. It seems like if I have a long update on a slower connection like anti-virus or windows update the computer shuts down after awhile. I am thinking these updates are not finishing. I would be working on my business and my connection would be very very slow. They suddenly it would spead up to a good usable speed. I noticed that after I got a message that an update had finally finished that matched me finally being able to work. I want to know how to keep Vista from shutting down and allow updates and downloads to complete while I am asleep so when I am at the computer I can work. I have a ton to learn.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe often heard recurring theme spread by no nothing trolls and fanboys is if Vista isn't working right, it must be something you did rather than owning up to how badly Vista is designed once you start poking around and SEE how badly implemented it is. Much of the frustration with Vista comes from it's applets crashing or acting up for no apparent reason. Since these applets are INTERNAL and built-in as part of Vista's core the often heard excuse it's some third party driver, a hardware problem or other software you installed is proven to be bogus.
When something happens to either crash or slow down Vista it usually gets documented in Vista's Error Logs. However like most everything else Microsoft does, the logs are of little actual value other than pointing to how poorly designed and broken Vista really is.
To illustrate how broken Vista is, here's my experience this morning. As usual I started my day going to Google (my default home page) and clicking on News to see what the headlines were. Microsoft's browser hung. Waiting for it to respond, after 90 seconds I gave up and sure enough was treated to the usual BS asking if you want to wait longer or shut it down. I shut IE7 down. Next I went to Event Viewer......
I got a really weird problem wth my vista. Every time i try to play game that's not on the list of games in the start menu (like some "old" games) they ALWAYS crash with some kind of error even if I put the compatibility stuff on them. searched the errors on the internet but nobody has them so i got stuck here unable to play nothing.

Wow requires hardware slightly more advanced than a graphing calculator to run, how am i not able to play with a system like this. The only thing i can think of is that maybe the different types of RAM are causing problems, maybe the timings are off or something. This is exactly double the spec of my XP machine and on that machine WoW flies. I dont get it. While not in the game the PC is lightning fast. Anyone have similar issues with WoW in Vista, if so how'd you fix it?

Vista will not allow you to store downloaded music. Vista calls home every day to tell MS what programs, keystrokes and internet sites you use. Vista will not allow you to Copy a DVD for your own home use as a backup. Is any of this true? I have yet to have any problems. View 8 Replies View RelatedNot sure what is happening to my vista laptop. Recently i have noticed that i am unable to play my DVD's. More to the point I am unable to see the DVD player in my computer.
What i have done to remedy the situation is as follows.
1. Booted up and checked the BIOS made sure that the CD was booting first and HDD second.
2. Checked in My Computer properties there was no exclamation mark against any hardware and i was unable to see my DVD detailed there.
3. The DVD player is an internal player and i am unable to detatch and re-attach.
I was looking to download Half Life (the first one) from Steam. However, both the requirements and the recommendations say either Windows 2000 or XP. I have all the other requirements, but I was wondering if I could still download and play this game when I only have Windows Vista.

He's not very good with computers so he didn't know..he thought he'd buy me a 298$ desktop and I'd be happy.. I can't open Emulators for (SNES, NES, DS, ETC...) I can't play anything on Yoyogames... with small programs it gets 100% CPU Usage.. My computer model is un-upgradable.. I can only upgrade the ram..thats about it...it only has one PCI 1 slot and not enough room for my new graphics card that needs a PCI-Express 16x slot.. What the hell do I do with this?? Ironically, Microsoft shipped with Vista all three dll's (the codec) needed to play Indeo 3.1x AVI's, so only this registry key is required to enable them. Intel Indeo was sold to Ligos. Ligos states the following:
"the 3.x video codec is no longer available nor supported"
Microsoft recommends that you convert older AVI's and not use this "deprecated" codec.

When I try it says that no codec is installed. what I need to download, preferably for free, to either get WMP to play DVDs, or a free player that's not too obnoxious with ads. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've finally decided to jump on the Vista boat ( or off the XP boat as it may be ), so I've installed Vista64 on my secondary hard drive and have been trying to get it in shape to use all week.
Unfortunately it hasn't been going smoothly. I've had no crashes or lockups to speak of, but my performance within Vista is just abysmal. The windows chug as they scroll around, and launching Internet Explorer is an exercise in frusteration. In particular, any page with a Flash ad running at the top absolutely cripples me.
I'd have to guess that something is amiss with my graphical setup. I'm using an EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS as my display adapter, which is currently rated 2.9 in Windows Aero, and 5.9 for Gaming Graphics. Everything else is right around 5.0. The Gaming score seems on par with what I've heard elsewhere, but 2.9 seems pretty low for Aero. Does this sound funny to anyone else?
I've installed every update available, with the exception of Extras and Language packs. I've gotten the latest Forceware driver for Vista64 ( 169.04 ), as well as all the Windows Update hotfixes that Nvidia reccomends.
Does anyone have any further suggestions that I should try? Or does anyone have similar hardware with much better performance?
why does vista load so slow for me? here is my pc. my pc is less then 2wks old i did all the installing myself and what not. and on start up all that is loading for me is the gargets, and steam and my logitech stuff (for my g15 keyboard and g5 mouse) this computer has no shortage of power and what not so why does it take on average 5plus minutes to load??? all of my programs load blistering fast expect loading og vista~ everything all the parts are purchased from ncix and is brand new! and all most top of the line pc and why must i wait longer for vista then i ever did for xp?
