Recovering Serial: Can't Find Serial Number Sticker
Mar 26, 2008I just upgraded my system's motherboard, chip, and ram and ran into a big problem. When I booted up for the first time, Vista started to boot up then reset. When I ran recovery, it told me some drivers were corrupted (probably the old hardware). I ran the motherboard disk and installed the new drivers and to make a long story short, it didn't work. Add that to the fact that I can't find my serial number sticker and I'm screwed. Is there a way to find my serial using the Dos prompt or can windows pull my serial off my hard drive if I reinstall?

Update MS Driver, Does Not Find
Jun 6, 2008I have a yellow caution sign next to my WAN Miniport (SSTP) in Device manager. I tried to update this MS driver but Vista does not find one. I suspect this is the driver problem error that is causing the SP1 install error.

Dec 1, 2009I got a new Acer Aspire M3800-U3802A desktop machine and I updated everything in Vista HP SP1 OEM. However, I did not get its IE8 since it was optional and I didn't want it yet. It does not offer me a SP2. Why is that? I read it can be picky on drivers and stuff, but which ones? Do I really have to get every driver and updates from Acer.com? I know I can get the stand alone SP2, but I would like to know why Windows Update is refusing to give me SP2.

Apr 25, 2008I have evga motherboard with built in Realtek HD audio (ALC883). Board features 2 ports for digital audio (optical and coaxial). and according to manual both are output. However when installed vista drivers one of the ports has been chosen as digital output (optical) and another as digital input (coax) (i can see that when i hover the mouse over the jacks in "Realtek HD audio manager") Is there any way to make the coaxial port as an output port instead of optical? My my HT reciver has no free optical ports so i have to use coax to get some sound from the computer.

The problem is I have lost my XP serial key (was stuck to the case as a sticker and was peeled off and chewed up by my 2 year some months ago). What options do I have to do a fresh install? I have the DVD that came with it to restore vista, which I don't want to use because of all the extra crapola that it installs. I also have an x32 Vista DVD that came with my VIsta Upgrade retail package. Apr 17, 2009Bought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.
I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.

May 19, 2007I am unable to install drivers for the Serial ATA Controller that is displayed within the Device Manager and my HDD show up as an ST325062 0AS SCSI Disk Device. Even when I install the recommended driver for the Srial ATA Controller from the Windows Update website it still remains driverless. Now whether the following issues are related to this problem or not I am not sure, but I will state them here anyway.
After a certain period of time my entire system will freeze and I will have to reset my PC, although when I do it does not reset but powers down. This is continues if I use the restart command from the Windows Start Menu or automatically restart after the installation of a software package. This is extremely annoying. Having shelled out for the latest hardware in order to be compatible with Windows Vista 64 and then for this to happen is quite sickening.

I also have a parallel to serial cable, male parallel at one end and a female serial at the other end. I had read something about a Direct Cable Connection, but I didn't see certain options that were needed to use it....even then, when I tried to install that service on the laptop, it asked for the Windows install disk, which is long gone..

Apr 25, 2010my son retuned home this weekend with his HP Compaq CQ61 Notebook and told me his dongles, Itouch and stuff dont work? told me his mum had it at a shop and the guy did a restore and couldn't find the problem or fix it? Apr 10, 2009My Son's computer was working yesterday and this morning he can't surf using IE 8 or Firefox. It appears Port 80 is being blocked. I have disabled the firewall temporarily and this did not resolve the issue. I did the "netsh winsock reset" and this did not fix the problem. I have reset my router with no change. I am able to ping the DNS, the Default router and his IP address within the command window. I can also ping yahoo.com, google.com within the command window, but can't reach them with either browser. He did not have System Restore enabled, so I can't use that as a solution. Can the group recommend some options for me to try? He is using Vista Home Premium, and a wireless card. I can also see ALL GREEN when I open up the Network Sharing tool. There is a green line between his IP and the Wireless Card and green line between the Wireless Card and the Internet.

Oct 9, 2009Pretty strange that I couldn't find one google result about WHERE a USB 2.0 port is, everything is "how do I know I have USB 2.0" and not actually where they are on the computer. Some may say well, just plug in a USB 2.0 usb and see what happens.
However my USB Drive has ALWAYS been saying I'm plugging it in in a port that does not support USB 2.0. I've done this at my college and the same bs occurs. This does not occur for any of my USB drives, not even my 16G one. Should also mention that whenever I try to access the USB drive, it says "Drive E not formatted, would you like to format it now?" Obviously I click no. This by the way has nothing to do with my recent virus issues. This particular USB drive has been like this for years now.-
