Recovering Serial: Can't Find Serial Number Sticker

Mar 26, 2008

I just upgraded my system's motherboard, chip, and ram and ran into a big problem. When I booted up for the first time, Vista started to boot up then reset. When I ran recovery, it told me some drivers were corrupted (probably the old hardware). I ran the motherboard disk and installed the new drivers and to make a long story short, it didn't work. Add that to the fact that I can't find my serial number sticker and I'm screwed. Is there a way to find my serial using the Dos prompt or can windows pull my serial off my hard drive if I reinstall?

Camera USB Cable Not Working

Mar 23, 2008

With old computer, running Windows XP, if I wanted to transfer pictures from my camera to my computer I could just plug the USB cord into the camera & into the computer and the picture wizzard would automatically come up and walk me right through it. With my new computer, running Windows Vista, when I plug the USB cable in, I get the sound that I usually get when I plug the cable in but nothing more happens. I don't know how to get to the wizzard so I can download (or upload or whatever the correct term is) my pics to my computer. I do have the capability to take out my XD picture card and insert it into my computer but I also want to be able to use the USB cable. Is this a Vista thing?

Connect Local Printer With USB Cable Can't Working

Jul 29, 2009

Vista Home Premium SP1 - trying to connect Brother HL-2142 laser printer as a _local_ printer with USB cable connection. I have installed exactly as instructed in printer manual. When I go to print, file appears in print queue until it finally errors. When I look in Device Manager->Universal Serial Bus Controllers->USB Root Hub properties->Power tab, the description shows "Unknown USB Device". Not sure if this is what the problem is. If it is, why would the USB Device be unknown? Also in Device Manager->Other devices, I see the HL-2140 printer with a yellow key hole. Printer manual says using drivers and so on for HL-2140 is fine for the HL-2142. When I try to add the printer manually, I can't work out which is the USB port. Doesn't seem to be one. I've attached document with screen shot of existing ports to choose from....

Media Center - Xm Radio - No Audio

May 12, 2008

When playing XM radio from within Vista Media Center, I select XM radio from selection screen, I log in, I see the channel lign up, I select my Xm channel, and it says it is playing. However, there is no audio. Everything else that used Video or Audio works correctly within Vista Media Center and Windows Media Player. Live TV, Recorded TV, CD's DVD's, online media all play with sound. It is only XM radio from within Media center that does not have audio. I don't use the application everyday but I know it did work prior to installing SP1. I have a new rig (1 month old), and I installed SP1 about 2 weeks ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my sound card drivers and well as found an update. I believe there is an association between the XM radio app and the Media player that may be missing or corrupt.

Configure FM Radio In Windows Media Center

Mar 24, 2010

My HP computer came with XP and an FM tuner. I was able to use media center to listen to over-the-air local FM stations with a "T" shaped antenna connected to the computer's FM connector. I have since upgraded to Vista Home Premium and more recently to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been unable to configure Windows Media Center with either of these OSs to recognize the FM tuner. The 'Device Drivers' window shows I have the latest version of a "Hauppauge winTV HVR-1800(Model 78xxx, Combo ATSC/QAM)" sound driver. Am I doing something wrong? Or missing something? Is there ANY other program (or driver) that will connect to this tuner?

Windows Media Player 11 In X32 SP1: Cannot Get The Radio Station Streams To Play

Feb 8, 2009

For a couple of weeks now, I noticed that in WM11 for Windows Vista, I cannot get the radio station streams to play. Example:

WM11 | Media Guide | Internet Radio | New Age | Show All |
Whisperings: Solo Piano | "Play".

Normally, the stream would start at this stage. It no longer does so. My first thought was to reinstall WM11. However, I cannot find it anywhere. The MS site refers to the XP version and WM11 doesn't appear in the Control Panel | Programs & Features section. My system: Windows Business x32 SP1 & IE 8 RC1

Media Center Streaming XM Radio: Audio Error C00D11BB

For a few days, I was able to successfully listen to the XM Radio component of the AOL Radio system. Then after a few days, when I attempted to play any of the XM channels, it would come up with an error that said "An unknown audio error has occured. C00D11BB".

Lost XP Serial Key

Mar 23, 2008

I have a retail version of Vista Home Premium Upgrade which I used to upgrade XP home edition OEM around 6 months ago. Tomorrow I`m upgrading my Processor and Motherboard and would like to do a fresh install of Vista if I can. The problem is I have lost my XP serial key (was stuck to the case as a sticker and was peeled off and chewed up by my 2 year some months ago). What options do I have to do a fresh install? Am i better off reinstalling Vista over the top of my old version? I would though really like to do a Format C: though and get a nice fresh install for my nice new system.

OEM Serial With A Retail DVD

I have the DVD that came with it to restore vista, which I don't want to use because of all the extra crapola that it installs. I also have an x32 Vista DVD that came with my VIsta Upgrade retail package. My question is - since I have the serial number that came with the laptop, will it work with the retail DVD even though it's an OEM serial?

Could Not Fine The Serial Code

Apr 17, 2009

Bought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.

I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.

Unable To Install Drivers For The Serial ATA Controller

May 19, 2007

I am unable to install drivers for the Serial ATA Controller that is displayed within the Device Manager and my HDD show up as an ST325062 0AS SCSI Disk Device. Even when I install the recommended driver for the Srial ATA Controller from the Windows Update website it still remains driverless. Now whether the following issues are related to this problem or not I am not sure, but I will state them here anyway.

After a certain period of time my entire system will freeze and I will have to reset my PC, although when I do it does not reset but powers down. This is continues if I use the restart command from the Windows Start Menu or automatically restart after the installation of a software package. This is extremely annoying. Having shelled out for the latest hardware in order to be compatible with Windows Vista 64 and then for this to happen is quite sickening.

It failed and I have since run Black Vipers "safe" settings and also turned off Media Center services. Microsoft help has left my computer in a worse state than it was before I went to them
