When I try to play HalfLife 1 of 2, the program says that I haven't got enough memory. Now the problem is, I've got 6Gigs of memory, so that mustn't be the problem right? I think that the program doesn't work with so much memory. Is there a solution for this??
View 9 RepliesI'm starting to oc my athlon 64 4000+, have it at 2,48 GHz at the moment, pretty lame I know, but there are no dividers in my BIOS and my multipliers are locked so I can only increase the HT Link (FSB). I'm really kind of stuck here...:s. Now I need a good memtesting program so I can see how far I can push my memory and OC that athlon as far as possible.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'e been using my new PC with Windows x64 Ultimate SP1. I'm very happy with it, I haven't run into any problems with it and everything is running smoothly. I'd like to know what are the major tweaks I should do to improve performance even more. I'm concerned more about performance than anything. I've also noticed that there is a lot of disk access, even after shutting down the indexing service. Mainly, I'd like to know what services are safe to turn off. In XP I knew what to disable, in Vista a lot of things have changed. Also what is a good Pagefile size for a system with 8b of ram? I mostly use my PC for photo editing (Photoshop and Lightroom), and for playing a few games, Crysis and Live For Speed. I consider my hard fast enough, and it runs very fast for me. But I am the kind of person that wants to disable anything that I don't use to get that bit of extra performance.

I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?

I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? The machine is new, and I was trying out some apps and games, I was in Secondlife when I got an error messege saying I was out of memory and needed to free up memory. I shut down the app and restarted it. Runs but I watched Task manager and saw my free memory down to almost nothing after an hour or so. The cached seems very high.
I did alittle research and decided to set a second page file on my 1TB hard drive, (OS is on the other HHD's )( regulated by system for size ) I'm not really sure whats going on. Example of just task manager and this page openis attached. Again, any help would be great in getting the memory set up on here optimal.
I have 6gigs of DDR3 memory at 1600hz. Running on Vista 64bit and every now and again my memory performance just maxes out. The problem can occur around the time when I am installing something but I dont think its always this way. I have read forums where it could be the hardrives performing self diagnostics. I have all the latest patches for vista.

Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.
I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? 1. i have hardy running as a virtual file on a xp host.
2. cds and dvds play ok in windows although they do not autorun, i have to start them using the player,
3. i had the same fault with gutsy
4. i followed reassuringlyoffensive's guides and everything seemed to load without errors.
5. i tried gxine first. when i run the dvd i get a message "xine engine fails to start" then "read error from /dev/dvd"
6. i get sound when i log on and i am able to play videos, with sound,from Internet.
7. i installed hardy from a download, i was able to check for errors.

I'm just about to have a substantial upgrade to my rig-new mobo+new case. All my other components will be transplanted.I've become aware of the LG GGC-H20L. This will apparently allow me to watch Blu Ray movies (and HD-DVD if I can find any) and is also a good DVD and CD writer. Also I can get it for just £66.So I was thinking of swapping out my existing Samsung DVD/CD writer for this unit but have several compatibility concerns.
I have a BFG 8800 GTS OC 512MB GPU. This card has a 2 DVI outputs but no HDMI output.I also have A Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP monitor which has loads of inputs including, I believe, an HDCP compliant HDMI input.So. Does anyone know whether I'll be able to watch Blu Ray movies on my PC using the LG unit through my GPU and into my monitor? I could get an adapter cable or maybe DVI would do? It would be great if anyone has this thing and could tell me if it's any good. Every time i try to play game that's not on the list of games in the start menu (like some "old" games) they ALWAYS crash with some kind of error even if I put the compatibility stuff on them. searched the errors on the internet but nobody has them so i got stuck here unable to play nothing.
