I am having trouble signing into msnews.microsoft.com from the toolbar button and the menu selection under tools. If I try to send a message (including this one) I get "Not Responding" . I have to then close Windows Mail from the Task Manager, reopen Windows Mail and try to send again. Is there some reason the Windows Mail does this even though I have given it my Windows Live ID and password?
View 4 RepliesWhen I bring up Windows Explorer it no longer shows the tree view of folders in the left pane. Actually, there's no left pane at all. And the "folders" button on the toolbar is gone.
I've got Vista Ultimate 32bit on a quad-core 4G machine.
This just recently happened so I'm assuming something got clobbered.
I created batchfiles to change default OS and reboot. I set the bootloader delay to 0, but the menu still flashes for my eyes for about a sec. I would like to switch OS using the batch files (yes, they use bcdedit.exe) and I would not like to see the OS selection menu. Is there a way to tweak the bootmgr to not show the menu?:sarc:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just bought and installed Premium 64 bit. I noticed that there is a power button to the right of the menu, when you click on the windows icon on the bottom left. This only puts the pc in sleep mode. I know that if you click on the arrow to the right, that there is the option to shut down. My question is this: Can i change the off button that is on the menu, to actally shut down the pc?? Is there an option to do that.

How do I get the Shut Down option to appear first (i.e. how do I get the button to shut the computer down when clicked) and put the low power state in the menu of other options which are accessed when you click the arrow next to the power button?

Now they are older and I want to get them to put the computer to sleep when they are not using it. Unfortunately, I can not remember how I disabled the power button. There are no group policies set and I couldn't find any settings on the registry (as suggested in your tutorials Power Button and Shutdown Options - Start Menu).

However, no Newgroups were visible. Unable to find a way to find them I clicked on "Help" and the advice includes "Click the Tools menu, and then click Newsgroups." I LOVED the nice, neat, useful, and tiny toolbars I created and edited in the 2003 programs and this 'RIBBON' thing is the most obnoxious thing ever! I REALLY fell bad for those laptop dudes and dudettes, especially the 15" (or smaller) screens. I have a nice, new, big 19" and I find the useless and extravagant space requirements for the "Ribbon" (who came up with that one, anyway?) EXTREMELY ANNOYING..............

In the course of doing so i had to download and install a img burner(i think it was called ISOBURN) which i then uninstalled. Sometime later that day the system was rebooted and now the system no longer boots normally, it boots to a WINDOWS98 startup selection.
If i try and select any of the options from this menu it returns that it "cannot find himem.sys...blahblah...please enter the path to command.com. I have already restored the registry to an earlier backup and rolled back the entire system 2 weeks using the OEM restore disk niether of which corrected the issue.
Lately I bought a new nice laptop with a strong cpu and lots of ram. The reason was, that a wanted to use it for both gaming, programming, designing and recording music.
This other day, I finaly had enough saved up for buying the M-Box 2 with Pro Tools software. At this point, I realised, for my big dissapointment and confusement, that it wasn't supported for my Vista system?
I learned, that Digidesign doesn't support Vista Home Basic, and overall doens't support 64 bit systems!? Ok, maybe this is Digidesign's problem, but then again - if I had known this before I bought my laptop, I would surely have bought a mac instead, so at that time it gets your problem.
My question is therefore: Why is M-Box 2 and Pro Tools not supported for x64 Vista systems, and why only a couple of x32 systems? This is simply not good enough, and I really must underline my dissapointment in this case.
I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I want to add a 'new folder' button to the button bar in my folder view. I do a LOT of file relocation and I make new folders constantly and want a one-click solution. I searched the forums first but found no solution. Thank you in advance for the help. I am NOT looking for a right-click option or a menu add-on. I just want a button.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWith Vista, I can get internet for my new Dell XPS laptop over the wireless connection without doing anything other than selecting the connection. No user name or password is needed. But to plug in directly into my cable modem, it does not work. Seems to require user name and password. But I use Verizon and a Motorola SB5101 modem and while it is broadband, I did not think it is pppoe. I don't even know of any user name or password for my account. Am I wrong, is all broadband pppoe? My internet connection works just fine without asking for pppoe login info when I use my desktop with Windows XP. So, it seems to Vista specific problem.

So I unchecked it and rebooted, went back to turn on features and rechecked it and rebooted again. Still the folder for tablet tools including the snipping tool is empty.

I installed the 64 bit version of DAEMON Tools (the 32 bit version won't even install), and it gives me this error when I try to run it that says:

Kernel debugger must be deactivated.
What are they talking about? I'm using Vista x64, and this is the Vista x64 version. What is the kernel debugger, and how do I deactivate it (and do I even want to)?
Today I found that the Administrative Tools folder items are missing. This has happened before but can't remember how to fix it. Also when I attempt to merge a .reg file back into the registry the file simply opens with notepad for editing?

However the following exists as well: (%SystemRoot%SysWOW64services.msc). So, is Vista 64 by default using the 32bit versions, or are the 64bit version in system32 as well? Note: When I run both neither have the "*32" which I'm assuming is a flag for 32bit support.

Edit: I finally found what I was looking for. RamStatus is the tool that helped me out.
I need to go into the internet options from the drop down tools. When I click on internet options nothing happens. No little window opens with all the tabs in it.
