I have an Equium A200 Toshiba lap top running Vista Home Premium. All was well untill a month ago when I broke the screen. After being repaired it has started playing up. Sometimes the touch pad wont work, the screen flickers and today when I turned it on the whole screen was on its side. To see it the right way up you would have to hold the lap top like a book, with the keyboard on your left. I hate sending things of to be repaired and do you think someone could have mucked about with it? Or is it just that it will never be right after being broken? Is there anyway I could check to make sure no-one has done something bad to it. Since we have had it back someone keeps trying to hack into it from the same IP address. When I try to trace it, it sais the address is private. Am using zone alarm fire wall. Can someone please give me some sort of idea as to what is up.
Not sure why but when I try to open system restore I get this message: "System Protection Settings has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I cannot make or restore my computer. If I go into system protection I get this error: C:WindowsSystem32SYSDM.CPL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
Vista Home Premium, SP2. Starting a week or two, I've encountered some problems that I've been unable to resolve.
1. Background: Computer goes to sleep after two hours of non-use, and this has worked correctly for well over a year. 2. Computer is set to wake up at 0200 for daily backup, as a Task; this, too, has worked well. 3. Recently, I started finding that, around 0400/0500, when I would get up, and I would press a mouse key to reawaken the computer, both the computer and the monitor would wake up, but the machine would be locked up. I found that I could hold down the power key for about eight seconds, turn it back on, and when I would get the normal black & white screen about choices, if I chose "start normally," all was well. 3a. A thread here about a clock updating site not working led me to change from that site to NIST, and the problem went away for a few days. 4. Then, I started finding that pressing the mouse key would wake up the computer and the monitor, but I would then get the cursor and the "busy circle" on the screen, with the computer locked up. if I repeated the power-key/start-normally process, all was well. I filed a support ticket with Logitech, and got a reply. I updated the ticket two days ago, have not heard from them as to further suggestions. 5. I have also found that if, instead of using a mouse key, I would press on the Enter key, computer and monitor would start and all was okay....
I just recently installed a little hacking tool for a game I play, and I guess my ad-aware detected a trojan. downloader and now my computer is acting extremely weird, I tried doing a system restore to rollback to yesterday and now it's not working, just asks me to close the program. I tried it in safe mode and it gave me the same error message.
I've been using my Gateway M-1617 laptop fine lately, but now all of a sudden I'm getting these errors anytime I run any .exe files. I have also found this to be true when trying to install anything.. I suspected it to being the DEP [Data Execution Prevention] service, but I'm not too sure..

I have a one week old HP with Vista Premium x64. I have not made the system restore disks yet. Been busy sorting out software problems I have the following problems: Control panel will not open on the start menu or through explorer when I click on it. The subdirectories will open when I click on the carrot on the left of control panel in explorer.FreeCell.exe will not run.System restore will not find a restore point. It is not working properly. " The volume shadow service used by system restore is not working. For more information view the event log.(0x81000202) All the other software I have check is operating. Firefox is a little balky even without addins.
Sometime my system sounds work and most of the time they don't. My Device Manager doesn't show any problems. When I right click on the sound icon in the System Tray and click on Sounds, then try the sounds, most of the time they don't work. I have all the latest digitally signed drivers (HP Pavilion laptop). When I go straight to the Sounds folder and try the sounds, they don't work. I don't even know which app is supposed to play these sounds (it might help if I knew in order to solve the problem). I have no viruses or malware in my system. Not sure - but it seems like the system sounds stop working sometime while the system is booted and has been running for a while. Please could someone offer some other things to check or try? What app is supposed to run these sounds? Are there any other sites that might be able to help (or other Newsgroups)? I have discovered my Vista (Home Premium) system restore isn't working. After a fresh boot, when I try to open "system restore" from the start menu... my computer seems to go nowhere. Nothing appears to happen. If I do it a second (and on) time, I get a message that says "system restore wizard is already running", when in fact it is not (per task manager). Also, about an hour after the FIRST attempt to open system restore... I get a screen that sais "no restore points have been created on your computer's system disk..."
If I go to System Properties - System Protection tab to see if I can create a restore point... I get a continuous "searching" in the Automatic Restore Points section, and the "create" button is not available (not highlighted). The "system restore" button is also unavailable (not highlighted).
My husband did something to the sound card or the program that creates sound on my computer. The computer thinks it no longer has a sound device. I wanted to restore to the point before he did this but it was a few months ago. When i try to do a system restore to that date it wont let me go back that far. I am not sure how to do this? Is there a way to restore windows to the orignal? I bought the computer with windows vista on it so i do not have a backup disk for windows it jsut came with it, but is there a way i can still re-install it.
System Restore is unable to restore on a 4 month old Vista machine. After rebooting and logging in message says (System restore unable to restore your files due to an unknown error). The reason I was trying to restore is the wife was unable to access many programs on her login. When you clicked the start button on her login the program files were empty and we were prompted to do system restore. Everything was fine on my login and we are both set up as administrators. I also tried system restore from the start repair boot process same thing. Reading other posts I do not use norton antivirus but avast's free one. i just brought a new intel pc, the S-Series. with no operating system, atm has a trail of wondows vista, (im getting a real copie very soon) anyhoo, when i use the Ethernet Cable directly from my pc into the modem works fine. BUT when im not using it and using wireless and trying to search for any wireless rounters around, i cannot find none, i got a wireless card i think its: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0), the 2008 version, theres a 2009 version (update), but every site i go to download they try and rip you off in buying membership and download it! so round it down cant find any routers when using wireless, cant find any FREE non riped off updates for my wireless card.. pheraps its not the card, and somthing else, and no no FIREWALL is blocking it.
I got a refurbished system from HP 4 months ago for $370. It has good specs. WD 500 GB hard drive, 4 GB RAM, Phenom X3 CPU. I have read that the CPU (an X3 8400) has some "stepping" issues which I may never notice. I was expecting to have some issues with it and get to know troubleshooting and fully expected to invest some time and upgrades into it. It came with Vista x64. I have had almost no issues. Even my older hardware works fine. It seems to me like Vista is rock solid. I have learned a lot from you guys in the forum so thanks. I know you normally get what you pay for but... Has anybody else gone the "inexpensive" route and had it work out?
i bought a new rig a few months back and got me some vista to let my memory be of full use. i played cod4 and age of conan just fine. but then my friend wanted me to come back and play some cs 1.6. i said ok ill own you a few times , i downloaded steam (i had an account that had cs on it) and then dowloaded cs from steam. now i was ready for some action , i enter the game and then when i got on a server and was on it for a few seconds it just well exitied (dont know if thats a word ). no error message no nothing it just fell down .. is this meh vista? because i played it fine on xp with my last computer. (o and yeh i dont want to just change back to xp )and heres my rig ...
I am getting a message saying that the spooler subsystem has stopped working and closed. I have tried manually restarting the spooler but I then get a interactive services message, saying that there is a message that cannot be viewed in windows, I click the view message button and I get a blue screen with a black window then I am told the it does not need to show me the message.
When I run the windows disk defraggmentor or an independant third party version, my windows vista home premium computer keeps freezing. How can this be fixed?
Just bought a new computer (Alienware M17 with 64 bit windows vista ultimate) and installed the drivers for my Dell 924 all in one via a Dell 3300 wireless printer adapter. The printer is working fine with my new computer - however after I installed the printer the following message pops up about every 15 minutes:

The only printers I have installed on my system are my =93Dell Photo AIO Printer 924=94 and the default =93Microsoft XPS Document Writer.=94 I=92ve never seen this issue with any of the other computers that use this printer running 32 bit versions of vista.
I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium a couple years old but all up to date and everything. It was working fine, but I was messing around in the startup menu tonight and accidently cleared the wrong box. To make a long story short, after the machine restarted, nothing worked. I can't access system restore to fix it because it tells me that system restore isn't working, and that the volume shadow copy service isn't working. The error code on that is 0x81000202. Also the event log isn't working, apparently Windows Explorer isn't working, so much isn't working, and it won't connect to the wireless router so I've lost the Internet connection. I don't even know enough about the problem to say what exactly isn't working, but the machine is useless now. I've run every internal diagnostic I can find and the memory is fine, but something critical obviously stopped running when I cleared that box. I can't access the startup menu to reconfigure it either. Does anybody have any clues as to what I've done and how to fix it short of doing a clean install of the operating system?
I'm in the process of rebuilding my wife's Sony Viao after Sony reimaged the HD (Vista Home Premium) and got to the point where I wanted to create a restore point. This attempt failed, I went into SAFE mode and tried again and I get a message "The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working. For more information view the event log. (0x81000202). I go to the Event Viewer and it fails "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running." When I go to the "Services" I don't see any entry for the "Event Log" - what should I be looking for? How do I get the system restore working?
my problem being stuck at the blue/green screen while making a new fresh install.) Well I first signed up because I have was having install problems. When it got to the blue/green screen it wouldnt do anything. But what do u know.. right when I was typing this it starts to load and Im now on my way installing windows vista 64 bit! (cause I just recently bought 8gb of memory) Well... I guess I would explain my story since Im a newbie... and something for you guys to read.. Well my computer really needed a new HDD because for some reason my old one would always get curupted after like so many months... about 2-3 months? I was wow **** this. I wasnt sure why it was doing this. But my computer was only on a surge so I think maybe a couple power outages ****ed it up. (I already fixed that problem though, just bought a battery from newegg.com, when I bought more things, like my new hdd, memory, mouse and mouse pad.)
so finally my memory and windows vista x64 bit dvd came into the mail. As soon as I got em... I installed the memory then I wanted to upgrade my version of windows xp 32bit (I must say a really good OS at the moment, till when windows 7 comes out) So I tried just throwing in the cd and found out I couldnt upgrade that way. Because I got an error that said "somethin, cant remember the full message but bascially because I couldnt run 64bit dvd when I have 32bit" so no biggie right? Then I was like ok well I can just install it by booting up. I got passed the part that said "Now loading windows vista files" alright not bad... so far so good. But damn I was wrong when I got to the blue/green background. I noticed the dvd wasn't spinning my computer was just sitting there. It was frozen though since I could still move the mouse. So I was like oh man... cmon vista... Well I waited a little bit not to much though cause I think it should just pop up and start working. It wasnt doing that so I knew something was wrong......
I'm using vista 64 for the last 2 months and it worked quite good in general. Yesterday after downloading some automatic updates (and i don't think this was the cause for what i specify next...) the system started working very slow, with sudden freezes, slow reaction to clicks on icons, starting programs etc. Another annoying issue that the system started booting very slow: after the green marker which shows after booting, there's a very long stop before i get the log on window. What's really strange is that i don't see the harddrive working in this time...it seems like freeze, like the one happens when the windows is up and running.

running Vista Home Premium (32-bit). When you log into Windows, you immediately get the error "Windows Explorer has stopped working". Then it says explorer is restarting, restarts your desktop, then is ok for about 3 seconds. The error then pops back up and it is stuck in that loop.
It started when he clicked on some popup he shouldn't have. I removed a trojan identified by Mcafee as exploit-byte verify. I have also disabled all startup programs and services (except windows services) through msconfig. However, I am still getting this error popup. Unfortunately, he had previously turned off the system restore option and got rid of the recovery partition.
Firefox frequently stops working and this seems to have something to do DEP (Data Execution Prevention) as the DEP icon appears in th system tray after each crash. I have tried to turn off DEP for Firefox but system insists that Firefox must run with DEP on.
I have a recent problem installing Windows updates on Vista Ultimate as the update process stays on 'creating restore point' forever. I've let it run as long as 7 hours in this state, with no change. It looks like the system is unable to make a restore point sucessfully. I know it has worked in the past, as I'm fairly up-to-date on Windows updates. Reading some other threads, I've tried using Disk Clean-up to remove all by the most recent restore points, and then try to disable/re-enable system restore - this part without success. When I check the system properties for System Restore, the System Restore button is greyed out. I've attached a screenshot of the screen for reference. I've checked the group policies to verify the System Restore is not disabled there.
I am new here and I have been having problems with my laptop for at least a few months now. And now I am fed up with it and just want to do a full system restore. I have no disks or previous system save dates. I talked to one of my friends and he said that i need a disc. I am just coming her for confirmation and or help. Holy ****. Games, Personalization, System Restore, System Backup (Error code 1068), User Accounts, and Windows Update. They show up, and then they dissapear right away. Any help please? Virusscan'd with AVG, tested hardware, it's clean, I dont know whats wrong.
I have several utility software programs. I am afraid to use any of them. I am using Vista home premium 64 bit. I bought this computer back in april. after I bought it I purchased a new program called Advanced System Optimizer. When I google for information on a quality utility program this program had very high recommendations. I also have Fit-It utilities 7 and an older version of System Mechanic. My computer is running slower now and I know it needs cleaning up. The last time months ago right after I purchase Advance System Optimizer I ran the registry cleaner and it reeked havok on my system. I called the company and they told me their program I purchased was not designed for 64bit systems. Of course they didn't refund my money. Question is: My computer needs cleaning up I can tell it is running slower than it used to. What utility program is out there that will work on my system. My system is Vista Home Premium 64 bit Intel core 2 Duo 2.6 GHZ.
My wife was on the internet and suddenly System Pro popped up and started scanning warning my wife of a virus attack on her computer and wanted her to buy the AV Pgm for $49.95. She just clicked all the exits and got off of the internet and now she is locked out of her computer. We can't get system restore to work, Can't get safe mode to work, She has AVG 8 installed but cannot start it. Tried SFC /scannow but was denied access. Tried putting the Windows XP disk in to do a repair and was unable to get it to start. I think the only thing to do is reformat the HD and start over but her PC ignores the A drive and the dvd drives. I cannot get into it in order to re format it.
