View 8 RepliesNew to the forum but just installed vista 64 the other night so im sure i'll be here a lot! Now i've been looking a lot into how to play AVI files through the media center, and it seems everyone uses the FFDShow program. So, after installing vista64, drivers, and all updates (except SP1), and configuring the media center I then installed:
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package x64 SP1
-FFDShow
-MediaControl 5.4.4x64.......
I cannot play music files on my computer. I have three different media players (iTunes, Napster, and Windows Media Player) and nothing will play on any of them.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi upgraded from XP pro to vista and i cannot seem to get medial player to play DVD files like it did in XP. What i did, i left XP installed on a 40GB "C"drive and installed vista "clean" on a 300GB "d" drive, hoping i could import a few inportant files and bookmarked internet sites later. Is there any way to find the codec from XP and install it into media player in vista?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe 1st problem is WMP11 failing to play .WMA or WMV files in Full Mode. The canned posts zachd has supplied everywhere does not fix the problem for most people. THIS IS A WMP11 PROBLEM! It is not an Intel graphics problem, or a Codec problem, or some other vendor's problem. This is evidenced by the fact that video will play if you start in Skin Mode and then switch to Full Mode while it is already playing. However it won't play if you start off in Full Mode first. The 2nd problem is THERE IS NO WMP11 UNINSTALL/REINSTALL!
Why hasn't it occurred to Dev that making a clean uninstall/reinstall procedure will resolve the WMP11 problems caused by corrupt files and registry entries? The Full Mode problem is a recurring problem seen in numerous user forums on the across Internet. Please do something to correct this problem once and for all.

When I try to play video or audio files on Media Center through the TV via HDMI, the video and audio is very laggy. It also sounds sort of static like. When I play CD's or DVD's the problem is resolved. Also, when I unplug the HDMI, the problem is resolved. Also, when I minimize Media Center, the problem is resolved. It only happens when the HDMI is plugged in and Media Center is Maximized. I have searched all over and have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I have tried changing the HDMI cords and changing the HDMI input on the TV. I've also tried to use a different TV and no luck.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was discussing Vista with a few friends over on a Linux website. They say: Vista will not play MPEG or MP3 files if Vista thinks they are illegal downloads. Vista will not allow you to store downloaded music. Vista calls home every day to tell MS what programs, keystrokes and internet sites you use. Vista will not allow you to Copy a DVD for your own home use as a backup. Is any of this true? I have yet to have any problems. I do value what little privacy I can get so if Vista calls home everyday that's crap...

Being my first time for pc games, I'm not sure if my laptop has got enough to play those games. I heard that it depends on my video card(?)or my graphic card(?), and I have no idea where and how to look that infos up. I have 65.3 GB left on C: , and 9.35 GB left on my D: drive.

I'm just about to have a substantial upgrade to my rig-new mobo+new case. All my other components will be transplanted.I've become aware of the LG GGC-H20L. This will apparently allow me to watch Blu Ray movies (and HD-DVD if I can find any) and is also a good DVD and CD writer. Also I can get it for just £66.So I was thinking of swapping out my existing Samsung DVD/CD writer for this unit but have several compatibility concerns.
I have a BFG 8800 GTS OC 512MB GPU. This card has a 2 DVI outputs but no HDMI output.I also have A Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP monitor which has loads of inputs including, I believe, an HDCP compliant HDMI input.So. Does anyone know whether I'll be able to watch Blu Ray movies on my PC using the LG unit through my GPU and into my monitor? I could get an adapter cable or maybe DVI would do? It would be great if anyone has this thing and could tell me if it's any good. I could keep my current DVD writer as there's plenty of room in the Cosmos S I'm getting but if the LG writes CDs and DVDs well I might as well pass it on to somebody who needs it.
I'm a complete novice to computers. I've recently bought a new computer but can't seem to play CD's on it. The computer doesn't seem to be reading the drive. I've even tried playing the software and documentation disc that came with the printer and its not recognising that either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWow requires hardware slightly more advanced than a graphing calculator to run, how am i not able to play with a system like this. The only thing i can think of is that maybe the different types of RAM are causing problems, maybe the timings are off or something. This is exactly double the spec of my XP machine and on that machine WoW flies. I dont get it. While not in the game the PC is lightning fast. Anyone have similar issues with WoW in Vista, if so how'd you fix it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've come upon a problem and I dread calling MS support. I have found nothing useful (without paying a subscription) on the net. I have Vista U x64 and a Hauppage WinTV1600. Everything was working fine for a couple months, but now I cannot play Live TV as I get this error. "Cannot Play Video: The file is currently in use by another application and cannot be played. Please try again later." Well, later is now over a week. I can still record tv and all other functions, no other issues at all.
I can't exactly pin down when it started due to a 2 week period of not watching live tv or what software (if any) could have caused it. I also tried the maintanence feature of MCE, but did not correct it. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience to this issue? I'm not sure what "file" or "application" could be doing this. I do have Nero 7 Essentials installed and uninstalled Cyberlink DVD in case, but I'm just swatting flies with these thoughts.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my WoW installed on a separate partition, b/c I thought this would speed it up (something about the computer not having to look through ALL of its memory during game play). However, whenever my computer does ANYTHING else, I experience a 5-10 second lag in game play. I have a 2 Ghz dual processor and over 200 gigs of space on my main drive (the WoW drive has 15/30 gigs being used right now). Is the problem being caused by WoW being on a separate partition? if so, would removing that partition fix the problem? And can I do that without reinstalling WoW (WoW regularly updates with patches downloaded from the internet, which would take several hours to redownload and install).
