so at our place we use Comcast Internet, and we have a Belkin router and i have no idea what kind of modem box. But periodically the Modem icon blinks red on our Belkin router. We aren't sure if this is a problem with the Router or the Modem box itself. Any idea's?

I tried microsoft fixit to no avail. also tried to run sfc/scannow from elevated comand prompt and that will not run even in safe mode. what do I try next. I just got my pc back to normal from a vista reinstall so I would like to avoid that if possible.

It is very distrating to use a cursor that is very rapidly "stuttering" or "flashing" back and forth between the rotating circle "Vista Hourglass" and the arrow. It does stop when I close Windows Media Player. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a computer from Velocity Micro. It has a Geforce 9500GT graphics card, a 500gb Hitachi hardrive, and 2 gig memory. It runs about 2.4 ghz. However, I have been having major issues with this computer. I get constant bsods. So far I have reinstalled the driver, replaced a bad memory stick with a replacement, and updated everything I basically have on my computer, including the mouse. However, I have done many tests which revealed that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. There was a problem with my belkin wireless card so i replaced it with a Ralink wireless LAN card. However, i am still getting bsods and the techs at velocity say that there might be a issue with this card too. Now i am just speculating but its too weird to have 2 internet cards which malfunction, one of them which is only a few months old. Can someone just tell me if it were the two so called "malfunctioning" cards or it might be something else.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt works fine except when I have tried to install my Belkin USB wireless adapter. I went to Belkins site and it told me to download the Ralink drivers, which I did. Nothing. Vista tells me that the device is working properly, but the light on the adapter is not lighting up, and Windows does not pick up any networks at all. I tried the PC with a second, identical adapter to see if it was the device causing the problem, but I have gotten the same response, which lead me to think it was an issue with Vista.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Dell XPS desktop PC's, both with duo 2.66 processors, 240 GB hard drives, and running Vista Home Premium. When going into Control Panel | Power Options, one of the PC's is showing all the sleep options for a battery powered laptop, and that's a LOT of options! I've attempted to set them all so that neither the PC nor any of its peripherals ever go into sleep mode, but periodically it still seems to go to sleep! I never have similar problems with the PC which Vista recognizes as being only a desktop. In order to fix this intermittent problem, first I have to let Vista know that the PC is not a laptop, but I haven't been able to find the parameter to do this.

To protect this data I will not connect it to the internet. From what I read, if I buy a computer running Windows Vista where Vista is pre-activated by the retailer, then Vista may still try periodically to re-validate on line. If it fails then the computer will be made unusable by nag messages or worse. In other words Vista, including Vista SP1, is not usable on a computer that does not connect to the internet. Shop assistants have told me otherwise. can you clarify because I can afford neither the time nor money involved in choosing the wrong operating system.

has no problems. I also have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop (running Vista 64
Home Premium) connected to the router by wifi and it works fine most of the
time. Every once in a while, maybe every 3 or 4 days) the lapto shows that
it is disconnected from the network. When I try to reconnect it never
reconnects. The only solution I have found is to reboot and then connection
to the network always is fine.
I have a second router and tried it and have the exact same problem so it is
not the router. I have seen some items on the web which indicate that Vista
might be the problem but I have not seen any solutions.
Windows mail. Just sent a question but did not specify I was talking about Windows Mail. Where do the sent items go to when they apparantly are deleted/emptied from folder? Does not appear anti virus software causing the problem.

Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.
My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster

I have a Globalspanvirata USB ADSL WAN MODEM it does not work in both types of vista(i.e:x86,x64) but i found a way to work it in vista x86. But i used the same way in vista x64 but it say no drivers found for the modem. I serached everywhere for drivers, and i found they did not have a offical website. I went to many websites and downloaded many drivers but no luck. To any expert can tell me is there a way to work this modem in vista x64.

I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a computer with Vista that had no modem. I installed my old modem - vista didn't like that - BSOD on shutdown. Uninstalled that, bought new modem listed as Vista compatible, is in Device Manager as Agere Systems PCI SV92PP soft modem. It is listed as operating correctly. Today I downloaded from Windows Update an optional update which was a later driver, from 10/07. In Fax Settings, the modem shows as connected, but when I try to create an account, when I choose Receive Automatically or Notify Me, I get a box that says "To send a fax, you must first connect to a fax modem or server. To see how to set up your computer to send and receive faxes, see Help and Support". The only way I can create an account is to say I'll choose later. In that case, I can neither send nor receive faxes automatically, although I was able to receive faxes manually.

This has only just started happening after I had help from Microsoft. They had me run a reset .bat to reset my services (in an effort to restart Security Center). Dial-up connection (one computer only) Very slow and very old school but it was working until last night. Now the diagnose and repair msg tells me "A cable is not plugged into the network adapter "Local Area Connection". The phone is fine, so is the fone line. Hooked up my brother's even older computer to internet just fine. Will not even give me a dial tone. External modem blue light is on, no problem with the external wires...I don't have wireless or router, etc., just phone line.

I have tried around 8 to 10 different drivers so far and the Fax modem receives either code 10 or incompatible modem codec. I'm using driveragent.com and have tried all their drivers but no help.
I recently installed Windows Vista ultimate. I have random drops from Internet, the only way to fix it is by rebooting the system. i tried disconecting the modem, restarting the modem, logging off from my user, nothing works. Only rebooting. I have a USB modem ( i know itīs not the best but this never ever happened on XP) and iīm using Vista ultimate. I donīt have any fancy network, just my pc conecting to internet threw the usb adsl modem. I tried pinging Google and it was successfully. But Firefox, neither IE worked
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my wife's and my own desktops (both XP Home) and my laptop (Vista Home Premium) all connected to the same ADSL modem. I want to set permissions so that I can access and do what I want with any file on any machine from any other machine.
On the XP machines this was a breeze. I can access either machine from any other machine and do whatever I want. But on the Vista machine, I'm prevented from doing this. The only files on the Vista machine that I can access from the XP machines are in the "Public" folder. I can't access the Vista machine's root menu or even the files in my own folder from the XP machines. When I try, I get this complaint:
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied. "T-pc" is the name of the name of the laptop in the "Workgroup" and "rlb" is my folder. I'm the administrator, so where do I go from here? How do I make Vista let the other machines access my files?
I have the following: gigabit wired desktop w/Vista premium and 360, 100mb old desktop with xp, laptop w/ xp and laptop w/Vista basic, also using a wga310n linksys wireless/gigabit router. All is fine w/ everything but Vista laptop. The xp laptop is connecting to the router using wireless-g at adequate speed. The Vista laptop, however, connects to the network just fine with wireless-g, but it runs verrrry slow. Ran a speedtest on laptops and xp one is in broadband range, but the Vista one is only in dialup range.

I have it plugged directly into the comcast modem but get the "local access only" message that seems to be such a problem for wireless users. When doing ipconfig /renew I get a message stating that windows could not contact the dhcp server. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the modem as it works fine with XP and Linux machines. Everything I have found related is talking about wireless issues and I've tried the registry edit provided by MS for setting the dhcp flag value to 1 and also disabled IPv6 and power options in the adapter configuration.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Zonet ZFM5621MT fax modem for $10 because I need to send faxes via my computer. My old fax machine finally broke. However, I cannot figure out how to send faxes through this damn thing. I thought I would just send the document to a fax/printer driver using the "Print" command, but there's no fax modem device under "Printers". When I looked in the Control Panel under "Phone and Modem Options", the computer does not detect a modem. When I powered up my computer after installing the modem into a PCI slot, Vista reports that it had successfully installed the driver for the hardware (it didn't specify what kind of hardware though, but I figure it must be the fax modem since it was the only new thing that I installed). I also manually downloaded the fax modem driver from Zonet (the manufacturer), and I installed it. It also reports that the driver had been successfully installed. However, I still don't see any modem under Device Manager or in the Control Panel.

Even by giving the dial-up number and other login info, I can't connect to internet. Vista and XP are on different local disk and I can contact you with XP. I'm not sure what the modem is exactly (broadband, WWIS, DSL, etc.), it's a phone line modem with a speed of 56 kbps.
