upgraded HP dv5000 vista capable laptop from XPsp2 to vista64U.
Its a AC97 Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP
I have tried around 8 to 10 different drivers so far and the Fax modem receives either code 10 or incompatible modem codec. I'm using driveragent.com and have tried all their drivers but no help.
I can't get my microphone to work on my X-Fi Soundblaster Xtreme Gamer card. I went to the configurator, which doesn't pick up my mic, and I tried tooling around with the control panel, but to no avail. I know the mic is fine since it works with my XP box.
Apparently Stalker doesn't like Nvidia's 100 series drivers so if you install Stalker you will need to roll back to or reinstall the 97.46 drivers. I can not verify this as yet but I will as soon as I get my copy (should arrive in the morning).
I had a Vista 32bit, and made the choice I wanted to goto 64bit. I got a new motherboard an Intel DP45SG running a quad core, i think 9550, but I dont have the exact specs in front of me. Then i am running four ddr3 corsair ram chips 1gb. I have two wd drives, don't rember the models off hand either. I have replaced the cables to the drives, ran just the drive by itself. I had a Nvidia Gefore 9600gt, but I replaced it with a ATI 4850 1gb ddr2 card. I am having the system take forever to run applications and do file copies. I opened up outlook 2007 and it took literally 15mins for it to open the mail box. Itunes takes about 20mins to open up. I can barely even use world of warcraft online half the time. I tried to copy files from the old hard drive to the new hard drive, they copied at 12kb/sec. Intel had a bios upgrade and I did that, I downloaded every driver possible. I turned off Index searching, Im to the point of going, is it the proc, memory, hard drives or all three. or heck the psu. Im totally lost as to what needs to be done to get this thing working. From what I can tell its only the file copies and the 32bit applications. Also, current windows updates, at SP2 atm.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600. I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed. The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?
Every time I run windows update all of the updates download but they don't install properly. When I restart the computer I get the message downloads did not configure properly windows is reconfiguring. I can alway download and install optional updates but anything that is important will not install. I get a variety of error codes. Has anyone had problems with windows update on vista?
so i have a pretty outdated system and i am thinking about upgrading it over the holidays. i am adding 2 gb ram and am looking for a pci (not express)card tht can run aero for around 50$. i am upgradeing from my wimpy little ati raedon 9250. would this card be capable of running aero? With the research ive done on numerous websites i think this card should be able to get the job done. but im just making sure that anyone doesn't know anthing different. also if there are any other better deals out there let me know.
Like the title says, my PS/2 mouse refuses to work under Vista Home Premium 32bit. The same mouse works fine under Windows 2000 and Windows XP, but under Vista the mouse gets detected but I get the "Code 10", "This device cannot start." in the device manager.
I checked and there are no resource conflicts, or any other outstanding driver or hardware issues in the system. Also, the proper IRQ is assigned and everything looks fine, except for the fact that it does NOT work and I get the Code 10 code.
Like I said, the mouse works fine in Windows 2000/XP. Right now I'm using a spare wireless USB mouse under Vista until I get this figured out. There are no special drivers or software for this mouse since it's just a simple PS/2 mouse.
I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-G31MF-S2 motherboard along with various other components, its all setup and working with 2GB PC2-6400 ram, i did purchase 4GB ram but whenever i put the other sticks in the motherboard the screen goes fussy and refuses to boot or even leave the BIOS screen. I have run various memtests on all the sticks of ram and they have come back fine
Computer refuses to go into sleep mode. When I force sleep by clicking the power button on the task bar the computer goes to sleep for about 5 - 20 seconds and then wakes up and stays awake. The cause; Installation of a gateway router from AT&T to provide TV and internet service. AT&T tech support claims no known issues with this router, yet the computer slept just fine prior to installation of this router, and if I power down the router the computer sleeps with no problem. This is not a solution since the router must remain powered up to provide TV service to my home. I have searched the internet for a solution, and have performed all the steps in the tutorial authored by Brink to no avail.
TIME WARNER, my cable isp.but nomatter what, they did not fix it they gave up, told me to call microsoft...well, then I typed in the problem, got softie instructions online....they say download this new easy windows email program...I did...still will not work this is Vista Home Premium on a 9 month old Dell, in fact, all I get is a full blue screen noting errors but it vanishes too fast to print or copyanything then the machine goes into safe mode then it rebootsitself by majic and it signs on again I have AVG and spysweeper zonealarall I wanted to do it email a scanned photo I can scan machine accepts it but forget about emailing it anywhere windows email is dead on my Vista.
My LG H55N firmware 1.05 refuses to recognize Rewritable discs once they have been written to ie I can't erase them on my computer and must use another computer to do it.
(Very irritating because it has to be a full erase not a quick one and on the computer I have to use it takes about an hour) ...
I've been using Media Center for XP and then Vista for a few months. Due to a random pause issue that I can't track down, I've built another MCE-HTPC and installed Vista x64. The install of Vista and hardware went about as smooth as it can get. BUT... now that I've installed my codecs and such, MCE won't play any videos. These are videos that 32-bit XP MCE and Vista MCE had no issues playing before. In fact I can even load Windows Media Player and it will play the same videos with out a problem. But once I load MCE, I get the "can not locate codec" and it refuses to play. Since I've not had problems in the past... I is there a cache or database of some kind that Vista32 might have left that now Vista64 is trying to read and it's now unable to load the videos?... also, I did update my codecs to newer versions as well... is it possible that Vista32 had "named" codecs list and now Vista64 is trying to find the same codec name... only it's changed?
I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.
All the cool icons I find on the internet seem to be in the .png form and supposedly work with/on MS systems. But whenever I try to associate one of these .png icons with a program or file the system refuses to let me. Is there some setting in Vista that I need to set in order to use these icons?
So I accidentally downloaded an antivirus program that is really a virus. It really sucks. Internet explorer refuses to work. Task manager has been disabled by the administrator. Any program that operates under windows explorer fails to run properly. This makes it very difficult to use the computer. What exactly is wrong? Do I need to repair the registry? What if I did not make a backup?
For some reason, whenever i now go to open a picture, WPG opens up, but doesnt show the picture, instead the cursor just has the spinning loading circle. Side question - In my User Folder, the Documents folder has for some reason lost its icon and its now a normal looking folder, what gives ?
Am trying to do a upgrade install from Vista Home Premium to Windows7 Ultimate. I downloaded Windows7 Upgrade Advisor Beta and ran it with no issues flagged. Went on to do the install but get stopped by this; Upgrading Windows will affect the following devices and/or programs: These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers.

This was all part of a Sony Ericsson PC Suite install which I have uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller. Using regedit and entering Sony Ericsson Device 115 as a search brings me to a key named......................
Ever since installing 178.24 driver Ive not been able to load the nvidia control panel. It just says this program has stopped working. Ive tried uninstalling it and installing it again and also trying same with the beta 180 driver.
i m pretty new at this site.So dont mind any mistakes. I have tried everywhere but come up with nothing. I have a Globalspanvirata USB ADSL WAN MODEM it does not work in both types of vista(i.e:x86,x64) but i found a way to work it in vista x86. But i used the same way in vista x64 but it say no drivers found for the modem. I serached everywhere for drivers, and i found they did not have a offical website. I went to many websites and downloaded many drivers but no luck. To any expert can tell me is there a way to work this modem in vista x64.
i am currently using vista. I'm trying to connect directly to my modem, and it asks for a username and password. I dont have one, and neither xp nor mac require one. Is there some way I can connect?
I bought a computer with Vista that had no modem. I installed my old modem - vista didn't like that - BSOD on shutdown. Uninstalled that, bought new modem listed as Vista compatible, is in Device Manager as Agere Systems PCI SV92PP soft modem. It is listed as operating correctly. Today I downloaded from Windows Update an optional update which was a later driver, from 10/07. In Fax Settings, the modem shows as connected, but when I try to create an account, when I choose Receive Automatically or Notify Me, I get a box that says "To send a fax, you must first connect to a fax modem or server. To see how to set up your computer to send and receive faxes, see Help and Support". The only way I can create an account is to say I'll choose later. In that case, I can neither send nor receive faxes automatically, although I was able to receive faxes manually.
how to get Windows to remember my modem settings. Every time I wake up or restart my computer I have to get Windows to reset my modem. This has only just started happening after I had help from Microsoft. They had me run a reset .bat to reset my services (in an effort to restart Security Center). It failed and I have since run Black Vipers "safe" settings and also turned off Media Center services. Microsoft help has left my computer in a worse state than it was before I went to them
I haven't seen this specifically addressed: I have an HP Pavillion a6742p with an hp external modem attached to the back. Dial-up connection (one computer only) Very slow and very old school but it was working until last night. Now the diagnose and repair msg tells me "A cable is not plugged into the network adapter "Local Area Connection". The phone is fine, so is the fone line. Hooked up my brother's even older computer to internet just fine. Will not even give me a dial tone. External modem blue light is on, no problem with the external wires...I don't have wireless or router, etc., just phone line.
I have a modem hooked up to a vonage device hooke up to my desktop. I have great security software to. Are you supposed to secure your modem like you would a wireless routr. I just hooked mine up to my computer and ended it there.
i'm a bitembarrased to say that my BELKIN G wireless modem/router locked me out of my own internet conection with MAC address filter =[ i have called BELKIN and they said they will send me a replacement modem. but i want to be able to use my old one im currently using an old D-link standard modem and i tried 192.169.2.1 for BLKIN modem page but cam up nill results any way to fix.
My computer will be on, but not online, and my home phone will ring and after the second ring my computer modem starts reacting like a fax modem and starts ringing and then says your call did not go through please try again. What can I do to stop this from happening? My modem is just automatically reacting after the second ring and I don't want this. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

I recently installed Windows Vista ultimate. I have random drops from Internet, the only way to fix it is by rebooting the system. i tried disconecting the modem, restarting the modem, logging off from my user, nothing works. Only rebooting. I have a USB modem ( i know itīs not the best but this never ever happened on XP) and iīm using Vista ultimate. I donīt have any fancy network, just my pc conecting to internet threw the usb adsl modem. I tried pinging Google and it was successfully. But Firefox, neither IE worked
I have my wife's and my own desktops (both XP Home) and my laptop (Vista Home Premium) all connected to the same ADSL modem. I want to set permissions so that I can access and do what I want with any file on any machine from any other machine.
On the XP machines this was a breeze. I can access either machine from any other machine and do whatever I want. But on the Vista machine, I'm prevented from doing this. The only files on the Vista machine that I can access from the XP machines are in the "Public" folder. I can't access the Vista machine's root menu or even the files in my own folder from the XP machines. When I try, I get this complaint:
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied. "T-pc" is the name of the name of the laptop in the "Workgroup" and "rlb" is my folder. I'm the administrator, so where do I go from here? How do I make Vista let the other machines access my files?
