I had some infected files removed from my system last night. The tech informed me that because my system will not run ActiveX due to a corruption from the adware/virus that I needed to contact my vendor to do a system file scan and repair. What are my options at this point? Do I need to re-install or repair Vista? Will that correct the problem?
View 9 RepliesWhen I go to Nvidia.com to update my drivers, there is no way to update because when I click on the drivers tab all I get are blank options to choose from for selecting my video card and OS and what not. I found out that the ActiveX that makes that possible will not install it won't even pop-up. There are no boxes at the top of the screen to confirm and installation of anything. So I click on Option 2 from the the drivers selection page and all I get is an empty page saying that its scanning when in fact it is doing nothing at all. After I click on the link enough times it sends me to a page that still does nothing. No pop-up
Now to let everyone know I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a clean drive. I have a clean install of it and I was just trying to get drivers for everything and this problem happened. However Windows update did in fact install the correct drivers for the video card. Getting the drivers was not the problem here it is the fact that there was no POP-UP asking me to install the ActiveX needed for the Nvidia site to determine my system settings for it to find the correct driver for me. Is not having that ActiveX going to be a problem for later, or is it nothing to worry about?
When I visit some sites it shows that I need to download Adobe 9.0. I uninstalled the adobe 8.0 as instructed and attempted to download the Adobe 9.0 I get an ActiveX notice to allow or not allow so I click allow and it showed successful download, But when I go back to launch the website I again get the notice that I need to install Adobe 9.0.
I checked my programs file and Adobe 9.0 is NOT installed. How come it said I downloaded ok on the Adobe 9.0 site but it is not loaded?? I re-installed the Adobe 8.0 and it works just fine. I have uninstalled Adobe 8.0 and tried many times to get Adobe 9.0 to download and the same thing happens.
i installed adobe 8 and easy media creator 9 .the 1st one dont let me click the accept button in license user agreement. the 2nd dont show the home page with all the functions. its because i still cant get the activex controls/plug-ins working. the site requiring them just show a blank page

View 6 Replies View RelatedWith Protected Mode enabled, our signed plugins no longer operate as they should due to limitations on where they can write files, etc. Is there any way to get around this programmatically, without the user having to disable Protected Mode manually? I must admit that I appreciate Microsoft's continued efforts regarding security, but the entire point of having signed plugins was so that the user could explicitly grant trust to the plugin. Unsigned plugins were not allowed by default in IE6. I'm not sure who thought that was inadequate.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using the 2008 free version of Adaware. (My computer has Vista) I did a full scan and after 13 seconds found over 5000 infections. I right clicked and selected the entire list to delete. A window came up that asked me to confirm I wanted to delete the files. I selected delete, but the window still showed the same number infections. It recommended a second scan, but the program crashed when I hit scan. I have restarted my computer several times, repeating the process, but I get the same results every time. I'd really appreciate help on this because this is an abnormally high amount of infections (most of them being malware).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a flash drive that I like to use. It is heavily used and often filled to almost all of its capacity. Just a few minutes ago I was using it with my XP computer and I opened up one of my folders to find that all of my files were gone to be replaced with folders and files with strange characters. If I try deleting anything, it says the directory does not exist. All that I can do is to format it. After formatting, I plugged it into my Vista but it said that it was corrupted or unreadable. I am wondering if it is a virus or if I should just get a new flash drive.

I have ended up with damaged and/or destroyed JPEG images due to the thumbnail icon feature and/or Photo Gallery. The condition can be created as follows:
1. Browse to a folder containing JPEG images.
2. Do nothing... as Vista generates the thumbnails, it struggles, and only "half" of it is created (see below).
3. When the image is opened, it is corrupted.
My understanding is that generating a thumbnail should not alter the original image in anyway. However, a thumbnail that was generated fine once before for an image that was fine once before.... yields something like this, which was formerly a perfect picture of my wiener dog's nose Not sure why this is happening. I've run all sorts of hard drive diagnostics (even though this problem affects files I view on flash drives etc. also), virus/spyware scanners (everything clean), and yet nothing has been found to explain this phenomenon................

Is this true, and where would I find my 20 digit registration and what is the web site?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy daughter managed to download some malware onto her computer (she doesn't know how she did it). The various anti-virus, firewall, and anti-malware (including Defender, Spybot, ZoneAlarm Pro and AdAware) do not catch this malware. The malware opens Internet Explorer windows with ads. Investigating the computer with Sypbot and others, the malware seems to be "1 mags 16 more" and "BEND BOLT". I've disabled these programs with Spybot, but of course have no way to uninstall these programs.
Unfortunately, a side-effect is that this has prevented IE from running at all. When attempting to start IE7, nothing happens (no error message; it just doesn't start). Would it help to uninstall IE7 and then reinstall it from scratch? If so, how do I go about it (and where do I find the IE7 download -- I don't seem to be able to find it on the Microsoft website)? I'd like to avoid a full hard drive reformat, if possible.
I installed the game earlier and then got a dll error when I tried to start the game so I did a quick search of the net and found a fix (install latest DirectX 9, it runs longside DirectX 9) The game then started, in the main menu I noticed some white flickering and when I started the actual game there was just major graphical corruption everywhere, it was unplayable. I am using the 174 nvidia drivers, here are my specs:-.... I just can't figure it out. Has anybody else got this game running fine on Vista Ultimate 64?.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP my cousin ended up with an infestation of spyware and adware after AVG ran out and it stopped updating.I installed AVG 8.5 ran a scan, it disinfected winlogon.exe and then blue screened. After a reboot and another scan winlogon.exe was no longer infected but other files were. It seems to have disinfected them. The only thing left is a popup that comes up everytime IE is started. I can't figure out what is causing it. I ran ad aware - it disposed of a few things but he still gets that popup when IE starts.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIf i increase my dpi to anything above 96 dpi (and reboot) i will get graphical corruption after a few minutes. The corruption is limited to "glass" areas. For example the start menu may appear as a sheet of pure glass. Buttons on the taskbar, could appear all mached together. The Alt+Tab panel won't paint itself. Ossasionally an entire window's client area will be transparent, rather than painting anything.
If i kill and restart Explorer it fixes itself, for a few minutes. If i disable Aero (switch to Windows Vista Basic these) it's fine. If i kill the DWM.exe (which disables Aero) it's fine. If i set it back to 96dpi and reboot, it's fine. nVidia GeForce 6600GT. Any drivers you like, Windows Update's WHQL, nVidia direct, same problem..........
I have uninstalled MacAfee and Windows Mail now works fine. Do I need to install something else instead? My internet provider, British Telecom, claim to filter my mail for virus and I have the Mailwasher spam

Ive been searching everywhere for answers i have vista home premium with windows live care anti virus in perfect condition and it detected something trying to connect to the internet. This monster devil thing icon beside it told me right away...trouble and also the random numbers...By looking in the settings of my anti virus i found that i blocked 4 of them so far ive scanned with my anti virus 2 times and 3 times with spybot search and destroy AND ran a ccleaner.It's still there...I just want to get rid of this once and for all but what in God's name is it!

View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"
Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........
I realise this may not be a fix for everyone, but this has worked on more than one occasion that i've come across this.. If you are getting this error message and you've ran through the normal HD tests, and everything is coming out fine.. (this will blow your mind)Go and empty your C:/Users/yourusernamehere/AppData/Local/Temp folder of everything that you can.. just do a mass delete and skip any system files.. Voila.. You have a working machine again.. I dont know whether this is a bug, or what caused it.. But everything's ship shape here now.. I know that i'll be clearing that out more often from now on.. That was the first time i'd cleared it in a year and a half at least.

I have installed and run every type of virus scanning/removal tool (Windows included) in the world and although I removed other items, this virus will be dormant for days on end and then just shut down.
I ran Spyware Doctor and this is the infection location:

Windows claims it is an email virus but no matter how hard I try, I cannot remove it. I have gone to the location of the virus manually through RegEdit but it doesn't show in the folder it indicates it is located (above).
Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, you name it will shut them down when installing them. I quit. Any help is always appreciated.
I get a small alert window pop into the middle of the screen called "ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" then text saying "type your username and password" Then there is three boxes with the details of my username etc and my password ****'d out. I can click "OK" or "CANCEL" or "CLOSE" but the box comes back. I am running Symantec virus protector and it finds nothing and Spybot and it shows there is a couple of items it can't correct unless I have admin profile.

I have an HP dv5-1000us running Vista Home Premium 64, and I've had it for several months. Recently it has developed a tendancy to randomly freeze solid (no control alt delete, no coming back from being frozen, must hard restart). It got much worse when I tried to install the new Zune update (3.1); now it will freeze like clockwork about 3 minutes after I open Zune. If I don't open Zune, it's much more random but it still happens. Another symptom is that I started getting a message that my sound driver software had to close due to a "problem". Sound still works, I just get the annoying message. Nothing I do seems to fix it, including Bios flashing, driver/device install/reinstall, etc.
I was really surprised when I looked at the system monitor. I have 4 gigs of RAM installed, and it runs at a steady 1.7gb usage with no programs open. I have disabled the animation stuff, too. When I open Zune it shoots up to around 2gb. The processor varies between 4 to 20% with no programs open, and is at 95-99% when Zune is open. As I'm typing this, I have flock, skype, and outlook open, the processor is running at about 30% and the RAM usage holds at a steady 1.76gb. Question: Is this normal? Or is it time (already) to bust out the restore disks?
I looked up all the info about the Virtumonde virus/trojan and everywhere I read said it's a virus that's more of a popup.. it's an ad crapper.. sends you hundreds of ad's and stuff of that sort. and that it can attach to IE and record your keystrokes and all that. but my brother doesn't have this problem.
My brothers problem with this Virtumonde virus. It's starting WITH Windows and completely locks him out of the system. During Boot, it's all fine, enters password. and see's background picture. then it covers the screen saying Virus detected and says what it is. and can't do ANYTHING. nothing works from there. I've tried cntl, alt, del. I've started in Safe Mode. only for it to stop with safe mode written in all 4 corners and do nothing.
I'm not the smartest person on virus's and stuff of this sort. I'm a gamer, and a builder, and Overclocker. not a Tech that can fix viruses. if I have to I'll just reinstall windows on his system. (XP) He doesn't have anything really he'd miss on that hard drive. just a few programs, Ventrillo and such.
1) It is not slowing down my computer or anythinbg. But whenever i plug USB stick into my computer and then remove it. There are 2 files created/ mIRC.exe i think.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows Defender or Avast stalls whenever I try to run them. Then, the only way to make the PC work again is to perform a hard restart. I try to have an on-line scan from the Symantec site, to no avail. The PC stalls again. Now, when Avast always seems to stall on either of the following files: system32/ntmarta.dll or System32/ntoskrnl.exe
Is ntmarta.dll a "straight" file or is it a virus ? Just for a try I tried to rename it, but could not do it. An errror message indicated that I do not have the rights to do so.
im aisha and im worried that my pc got lots of virus.. sometimes antivirus never detect some. one of the best ways to do is by using the command prompt.. i used to do it with flashdrives but i cant make it now.
