Is Compatible With Existing NVIDIA Drivers

May 31, 2009

ASUS has just designed a new monster graphics card that breaks the mold for reference design GeForce GTX 295, called the ASUS MARS 295 Limited Edition. The card, although retains the name "GeForce GTX 295", same device ID, and is compatible with existing NVIDIA drivers, has two huge innovations put in by ASUS, which go far beyond being yet another overclocked GeForce GTX 295: the company used two G200-350-B3 graphics processors, the same ones that make the GeForce GTX 285. The GPUs have all the 240 shader processors enabled, and also have the complete 512-bit GDDR3 memory interface enabled. This dual-PCB monstrosity holds 32 memory chips, and 4 GB of total memory (each GPU accesses 2 GB of it). Apart from these, each GPU system uses the same exact clock speeds as the GeForce GTX 285: 648/1476/2400 MHz (core/shader/memory).

Drivers Are Compatible With The 64 Bit Version Of XP?

Mar 30, 2008

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 that came with Vista Home Premium Version 6.0 (Build 6000) installed. It has the AMD Athlon(t) 64 X2 Dual-Core Precessor TK-55. I also have a copy of XP x64 that I haven't installed on anything yet. I looked at the Dell support page on downgrading this machine, and there are a number of steps listed plus some drivers that I will need. Now my question is whether these drivers are compatible with the 64 bit version of XP?

I don't see any mention of 32-bit XP versus 64-bit XP on the Dell page devoted to downgrading. I used to work for Microsoft, in NT system development in fact, but that was a long time ago and I don't know anything about the 64-bit system architecture. I assume that my copy of XP x64 is compatible with the Athlon in my Dell because both have "x64" in the name, but even that could be wrong.

Nvidia Graphics Drivers Can't Work

Nov 9, 2009

Seen in the capture below, the video card is showing as a 1.0, while I expected at least 5.0...the only place this shows to be a problem is while playing halo 2, the game plays choppy to the point where it is almost unplayable. This is odd however, because it seems to do fine in Dawn of war, DDO, and tribes vengeance. I ran a benching program and the card did fine, fps of 280 something, but vista can't seem to sort itself. We are about to get borderlands for this pc, so we wanted to get this problem fixed first. So far I have installed and reinstalled the newest nvidia graphics drivers, mobo bios, and chipset drivers, and this has me just about stumped. the computer to recognize and use the graphics card? Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 43.

Drivers For Belkin Wireless Card (f5d7001uk) Which Doesnt Have Any Vista 32 Drivers

Feb 15, 2008

ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.

My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster

Default Vista Supplemental Drivers Would Mean Loss Of Graphics Quality Compared To Using Up To Date Drivers On A XP OS

Oct 4, 2005

While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system?  Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

Can't Save Changes To An Existing HTML File

Sep 16, 2009

I can create and save an HTML file but can't save changes to an existing HTML file. When trying to save using Notepad, the error window says:

Cannot create the
C:UsersRoyDesktopWebPages est.html file
Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

When trying to save using Notepad++, the error window says:

Save failed Please check whether if (sic) this file is opened in another program.

What I can do with Notepad (I haven't tried any work-around with Notepad++) is to first save the .html file as a .txt file, then open the .txt file and successfully save it as a .html file. I tell you this as a possible diagnostic clue; it is by no means an acceptable fix. This problem appeared suddenly out of the blue. I can think of nothing that might have caused it. I have tried the usual stuff, such as re-booting, but nothing has worked.

RAID For An Existing VISTA Install

May 24, 2009

I built this system and installed VISTA 64 and all my other software before I decided to build a RAID. A few weeks after start-up, I bought a couple new drives and wanted to build a RAID.I could set the BIOS up for RAID, type Ctrl+I, assign the RAID drives, but then I would get a BSOD before the Windows Boot GUI. This happened no matter what ports the RAID was in as opposed to the port positions of C: and/or my DvD drive.

I had to install the Intel Storage Matrix Manager. no luck there either. When I double click IATA88ENU.exe it tries to run, but returns "Computer does not meet the minimum system requirements. Set up will exit........

Will Not Recognize An Existing RAID Arrays

Apr 20, 2008

I am running a dual boot system, XP and Vista. See below for system components. I have been using the Windows XP OS with two RAID 1 arrays with no problems. The arrays were created using the BIOS, and XP was installed with the Intel RAID drivers (via floppy during initial setup). For the two arrays to accessed (read/write) I found I had to use XP's Disk Management utility and convert the arrays to "Basic Disks". I was not worried about the warning of loosing data on either array as they were blank, no data.

I recently installed Windows Vista, and found this OS will not recognize the two existing RAID arrays. I can not see either arrays with "My Computer" nor with "Windows Explorer". Therefore I can neither read nor write to these RAID arrays.....

RAID1 Setup Existing OS For Non Boot Drive

Sep 13, 2009

I am making the upgrade to a RAID1 setup for my multimedia collections. I am using a 250GB boot disk where I have 3 versions of windows installed: XP, Vista, and 7RC. So, this setup is not intended for booting purposes and is intended to be used by my different OSs.

I bought two identical 1T Maxtor HDs and a Sabrent SATA II 3Gbps 4Ports PCI ExpressRAID Card. All items have been installed into my computer. The card's BIOS recognizes the HDs and I formatted and paired the drives there for RAID1. Windows has installed updated drivers for my Sabrent controller.

For some reason I cannot see the drive on my system. I've searched all over for any incite to setting this up without reinstalling windows. Is this at all possible? Is there a program that I can download to setup the array that's similar to Intel's Matrix Storage Manager? Again this is not my primary boot drive.

Partitioning HD: Minimum Shrink Existing Partition Around 176gb?

Mar 29, 2008

I have Vista Home Premium preloaded on a Dell Inspiron 1520 with a 320gb hard drive. I would like to isolate the OS from my data by shrinking the OS partition to 42GB and creating another partition for my data. However, Vista's partitioning utility says the minimum I can shrink the existing partition to is around 176gb. I suspect that even though I have defragged the hard drive, there is some part of the OS that is sitting on the drive out far enough to cause this. I can't verify this because Vista's defrag utility doesn't show you a map of the drive during defrag. Anyone know of a way around this?

Reinstalling Vista Erase Existing Files Could Not Save Data

Sep 17, 2008

I may have to re-install the Vista operating system on my primary hard drive. According to Dell, installing/re-installing Vista will erase any existing files (gee, why couldn't they have configured Vista like XP which would save your data?).So as not to loose my files, my plan is to install a new primary hard drive. And once the new drive is functioning properly, to add the old one as a data only secondary drive (The drive hasn't failed, it's just inaccessable due to a user logon password issue which I'm working in another thread). Does anyone see a problem with reading the data files/folders on the old drive? Will the existance of an operating system be a problem? I'm hoping the drive will act as a ghosted drive, and the answer will be no.

Can Change Existing Registry Entries & Add New Entries To Make Vista More Secure?

Mar 14, 2009

I have a laptop with Home Premium. I'm thinking about upgrading to Ultimate. I have some questions. Home Premium doesn't have any policy editors. I know that I can change existing Registry entries & add new entries to make Vista more secure. When one makes a change to a policy editor, in what file is the change stored? Or is it stored in the Registry? If policy editor changes are stored in the Registry, then one really doesn't need to upgrade to Ultimate or have a PC with Ultimate. So, ultimately (no pun intended) can one use the Registry to make Home Premium as secure as (or possibly more secure than) Ultimate & achieve the same results as one who has Ultimate?

Backup And Restore: "Word Cannot Open The Existing File"

Mar 23, 2008

I purchased a WD 500 GB external, and used windows backup. It worked fine. I was planing to return my laptop for repairs because it was making funny sounds, so i deleted all my documents/music/pictures and so on. When i went to restore everything, I got a pretty nasty problem.

everything was restored, but stored on the F: drive, which is the external. when ever i would start up the computer, without the external plugged in, it would give me an error saying that the desktop wasn't found and that it was in different folder. there was also a problem with Microsoft office, which when ever i would open Word 2007 it would say "the office open xml file Normal.dotm cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents."

then it would give me a second error message "Word cannot open the existing file. (normal) i would also get this same error when opening up any existing word file. when i would write things up and then go to save it, it says that "word has insufficient memory. do you want to save document one as rescued document 2?" i have a similar problem with itunes
