I am unable to connect to any wireless network. When diagnosing why i cant connect, i am simply told 'you are unable to connect'. additionally, when directly connecting through a cable, I still cannot use internet, however my AOL instant messenger will work fine. I have tried restarting my computer and router with no success. All settings have been set to match my home network. I am lost as to what the problem could be.
I want a second computer (which uses XP) to be able to connect to my internet connection. It CAN connect to the wireless network, but cannot see the internet. I have a Netgear wireless Router, and a security enabled wireless network. The other PC can connect to the wireless network with good strength, but cannot see the internet. In Vista's Network Sharing Centrethere is a properties box which deals with Internet Connection Sharing. But when I try to tick the 'Allow other users to connect through this computer's internet connection' box and click OK, I get a messagebox come upo telling me that 'An error occured while internet connection was being enabled'. Should I be trying to enable this? Am I doing this in the right place? if so what else do I need to do to enable the internet on the other machine?

I can't get onto the internet with my laptop. Get the message IE cannot display webpage. I have diagnosed connection problems, and there aren't any. I have tried both wireless and ethernet networks. My desktop is working just fine . I have been working on this for 4 days now, and have not come up with a solution.
When trying to connect to the internet I have to go through a series of operations, viz, start, connect to, dial, close and then finally load net. Sometimes however, as soon as I log on, a small window appears and I can connect immediately to the net via this. Is there any way that I can adjust my system to use this small window each time I want to connect?
After getting on to the net, as I try to go from one site to another, the small window appears and I have to reconnect to the internet. This has only started recently.
32 bit Windows Vista Home and I have McAfee security. This as my sons laptop and he could not get the OS to start up. I done a system restore have since been able to log in. From that point I have tried to connect to the internet with a netgear wireless router WGR614 v6. I can establish a wireless connection, but I am unable to connect to IE. When trying to do so, I get internet explorer cannont display web page.
When I try diagnose connections I get the host may be down and windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically. I am running a pc with xp home through the netgear router with an ethernet cable so I know the internet connection is good. I have tried to connect in safe mode. I have done an ipconfig reset and a dns flush. I disabled my windows firewall and still have no luck.
I'm having trouble with my internet connection on my Sony Vaio laptop. I've had this laptop for over a year now and I've been connected to the internet wirelessly through a router without any problems until last night...All of a sudden IE wouldn't connect to any sites but firefox and my messenger still worked. Then about an hour later my firefox stopped working so i decided to restart my laptop. Before it shut down to restart I got a Blue Screen and then it restarted. Now it's saying im connected to the network but Local Only and I can't connect to any sites. I'm currently on another PC in the house and the Internet works fine. Also I tried plugging an ethernet cord in the laptop and it still doesn't work.
I brought a laptop of mine over to my gfs today and connected it to anexisting network that her roommate has setup. I have not had any luck getting it to connect either by wireless connection, connecting to an ethernet cable to a wireless router which goes to the modem, or connection to the ethernet cable which goes directly to the modem. I had no problems with this laptop at my place connecting to wireless or wired and both places use comcast cable for internet.
I've been searching forums all day looking for clues. I have seen a lot of talk of MAC addresses, unable to contact your DHCP server, ip renewing etc. But nothing seems to work. It defaults to a 169.254.*ip which I believe means it cannot connect to the DHCP server.
I have a few issues with Windows Mail (Vista) connections. If I'm already connected to the Internet through my ISP software Windows Mail will connect to my mail servers with no problem but if I'm not already connected it will not connect. Internet Explorer and many other programs (even several of my freeware programs) will connect to the Internet using my ISP connection when my PC is not already connected to the internet. I've tried but can't get Windows Mail to connect through my Internet connection.
I ended-up having to setup a Dial-up connection to connect Windows Mail when I'm not already connected to the Internet. It has to be set as the default connection to work but this causes other problems. For the most part it works fine but the Dial-up connection can't turn on my SpeedBand (Turbo mode) because that's embedded in my ISP software. Also, some programs use the Dial-up connection while others use the Internet connection(?)................
I am unable to connect to internet using my wireless. I have tried resetting the router and rebooting the laptop. Each time I try connecting to internet the system throws and error " the dependency service or group failed to start". I have tried using vista's diagonse and repair option, but no luck. I have tried restarting the wireless, troubleshooted drives. On doing the ipconfig /renew at the command prompt the following was seen. " No operation can be performed on wireless network connection while it has its media disconnected.No operation can be performed on bluetooth network connection while it has its media disconnected. An error occured while releasing interface loopback pseudo-interface1" On futher diagnoses i have notice that DHCP clinet service is stuck in the "STARTING" state. I am unable to stop and restart it. I have logged using the administrator.
I am having Windows Vista and Ubuntu. Ubuntu gets connected with LAN as soon as i plug in wire and also connects to the wireless network in my home ( via router ). But windows shows no sign of network connection. Could some guide me what should i do even to give you guys detail of technical problem since i am not a windows user but desires my laptop to be connected to internet !
I have an hp with vista hp 32bit and recently I am unable to connect to the Internet. My Internet icon has a red X over it and it says connection:unknown the dependency service or group failed to start. I have no idea why this is happening. I tried system restore but an errormessage says it's unable to restore. I ran the antivirus (norton 360) and 3 Trojans were found and destroyed. Still doesn't work. Ran the cmd prompt and tried the sfc /scannow fix and nothing was found. I'm flatout of ideas.
I'm running a visa 32 bit laptop and a Windows xp PC on a network and im trying to send files from the laptop to the PC. My laptop is unable to connect to the internet and I think the problem is that I have a virus so I'm just going to reformat the whole thing. I want to send my laptop files to my PC, but when I go to the network and sharing center on the laptop to turn public folder sharing on, the whole window just freezes when I apply the setting. The workgroup names are the same. Is there anything else that I have to do to be able to share the files?
I've been running Ultimate x64 and had occasional freezing problems. I'm pretty sure those are related to a memory issue. Normally I just have to hard reset the system and everything is fine. But yesterday I had a lock-up, hard reset and somehow the date was changed to 18 Apr, 2066. I obviously couldn't connect to the internet, so I reset the date to 2009 and restarted. No change.
My software subscriptions think they have expired, and I'm at a complete loss here. I require the internet and that software on that system for work and have no idea what to do. I believe as soon as I get the connection up, my subscriptions will talk to their online server friends and all will be fine (hopefully), so that's why this thread is here.
I've just purchased a new PC, running Vista Home Premium, with a built- in PCI Wireless adapter, but am unable to connect to the internet. I have emailed my supplier's technical support, but I don't think the problem is straightforward, nor do I know whether it is a hardware of software issue, so I thought I'd try elsewhere in the meantime.
The symptons are as follows: I have an old Netgear DG824M wireless router/ADSL modem. I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium. This was able to connect to the router and hence to the internet straight away with virtually no configuration - just entered the WEP key and it all worked. This has recently been upgraded to SP1, and still works okay. I have my old desktop running XP. This has no connection problems. The new PC has an Asus WL-138GE (or 138G V2 - not sure which) PCI adapter. Initially, it was identified as a Broadcom adapter. The new PC had problems right from the start connecting to the router and the internet. Most of the time, it appears to be unable to get a DHCP address. The signal strength is always excellent, and it correctly identifies the router as a Netgear DG824M. When it does manage to connect to the internet, the connection only seems to last a few seconds, or is extremely slow. I cannot connect to the router at all using the new PC. It comes up with the username and password very quickly, accepts that, but then seems to hang loading the home page. I usually give up after about 5 or 10 minutes. When connected, I can ping the router and I can also ping websites, even though I don't seem to be able to connect to them using IE. I have no antivirus running, and the only firewall software is windows firewall
I have tried the following: Checking DHCP client service running, Disable WEP, Disable Windows Firewall, I upgraded the wireless driver by downloading one from Asus. It now recognises the adapter as an Asus 802.11g Network Adapter (driver c:windowssystem32driversBCMWL664.SyS, Broadcom 4.102.15.56), but this doesn't seem to have made any difference. I deleted the adapter and let it recreate itself. It loaded up the same drivers. I've removed IPv6 ,I've set up the PC with a static IP address (192.168.0.51), set up the router as the gateway, and my ISP's DNS servers as the DNS servers. I added an =93ArpRetryCount=94 DWORD key to the registry as recommended somewhere. I made some further registry changes as recommended by Microsoft KB 928233. I reset TCP/IP and Winsock using netsh as administrator. I tried "netsh interface tcp set global rss=3Ddisabled autotuninglevel=3Ddisabled" None of these changes seem to have made any difference, and I've run out of things to try!
I am unable to send email. Using Vista. Have emptied outbox as suggested in other posts. Outbox was emptied without difficulty, sent to drafts, then deleted. Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
my computer is not holding it's internet connection, even when i refresh it just wont reconnect and i end up having to restart and then the connection is fine. I'm running Vista Home Premium, Defender, ZoneAlarm (free) and Avast (free). Broadband connection. is there anyway to secure the connection permanently (which it should be) Have i, a setting wrong? At all times my internet icon says i am fully connected?
I cannot connect to my wireless network after reintsalling Vista on my notebook. I hvae an HP dv6139us notebook. I can see the newtork and I can try to connect but everytime I try to, it does not connect for an unknown reason. I have a secure network and i put the correct passphrase in as all my other computers connect with no problems. I have also dover a little deeper into this and when you look and the nwetwork and sharing center and click view full map, under the drop down menu there is an error message that states, network adapter is not enabled. How do i enbale the adatper? As I have checked this in the device manager and it shows that this is enabled. I am totally confused and lost and about to pull my hair out.
I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a new computer, and Windows 2000/pro on a much older (8 years?) computer. I have no difficulty transferring files from one to the other using flash memory units. Both systems are running fine. I was told, by a not always reliable person, that I can simply plug either a regular ethernet cable, or a crossover ethernet cable, into each computer and each will immediately recognize the other, and each will show up on the other's Window Explorer windows. Then, I'm told, I could drag and drop files from one computer to the other with a click of a mouse on either computer.
So, I tried it. Purchased a new crossover ethernet cable, plugged it in, and no visible response. No sparks, no smoke - nothing. Directory trees did not change on either computer's screen. The person who told me this would work doesn't "have time to check into it right now."
My questions:
1. Is it likely that I caused any damage to either computer? Both continue to work as well as they ever did, so I don't think so.
2. Is it possible to connect the two computers together, via such an ethernet cable, and have them behave as I had been told?
I got a new computer which I successfully connected to my home network. However, occasionally it does not connect. If I restart the computer and reset the router it works fine, but in a few days it crops up again. The technique I am using at the moment works fine, but gets a bit wearing. Is there a solution to this short of hibernating the computer instead of shutting it down.
I recently bought a new Linksys router ultra range plus. it can broadcast on n, g and b bands. My laptop has a "g" adapter. but after setting up the router i tried to connect to the router and only get "Local" connection. DHCP is enabled in my router but the "ipconfig /all" command on the laptop says it isnt. My room mates connect fine, one has a Mac and one has an HP running vista (not sure the version). When i connect via ethernet the internet works just fine. im leaning towards an adapter problem but im no pro in this field. iv updated the adapter drivers to the latest update (attempting to solve the problem).
I'm using Vista on a HP Pavilion laptop and i'm having some problems with my internet connection. I know very little about computers and so struggle to follow much of the advice on these forums! I'm trying to connect using an ethernet connection so it's not a problem with the wireless. The network and sharing centre shows that i'm connected to an unidentified local network but it isn't connecting through to the internet.
ok lets try again.......my newsreader windows mail just suddenly stopped working with "unable to connect to server"....i have deleted norton using their program - no change.....i have deleted my news accounts and set them up again - no change
this is bogus...for what i spent for freaking vista and a new computer to have something stupid like this to have happen.
I am having trouble booting up my computer. Vista SP1. My computer hangs occasionally during start up. And usually when i just turned it on, it gives a few long beeps and nothing happens on the screen. Could it be having problems with the CPU or my screen?
I have been using a legal version of windows vista business with SP 1 and have installed all the recent updates. Just a few days ago some of the applications that I often use dont work any more. The applications are freecall ( a voip software ), Bit Comet and DC++ . I have searched many forums on all the above mentioned applications and also many Windows vista forums but still am not able to figure out what has gone wrong or why am unable to fix this issue. Some of the things that I have tried,
1) Tried system restore by restoring the system to a week earlier settings. This didnt work out. 2) uninstalled the firewall ( comodo ) I had on my comp. Disabled windows firewall . Even this didnt work. 3) I had VMWare installed and hence I thought that it had disturbed the network settings . So later i also uninstalled this VMWare application. 4) Then after reading some posts in other forums, I ran services.msc then disabled UpnP and SDSP . Even this didnt work out. 5) Now I have only my windows firewall turned on with exceptions to all the applications mentioned above.Even now it does not work out.
For the Dc++ thing, am unable to connect to the university Hub.
I have a nearly new XP machine. I also have a new Win7 machine. I continually work on other computers for our computer club. I have bought a 4 port KVM switch with DVI in and out. My XP machine (although it has a DVI connection on the back of the video card) won't connect. I have now added a DVI to VGA connector at the XP machine. Still won't recognize the monitor. The Win7 machine has no problem with it.
When I try to connect an external USB hard drive or a USB memory stick to my laptop, Vista throws up a message saying: ???Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device???. I let Vista search, but Vista cannot find the required driver. However, when I connect the same external USB hard drive or a USB memory stick to my desktop PC, also running Vista Ultimate, Vista has no problems recognizing the device and installing the required driver automatically and without throwing up any messages. I suspect that some Vista service(s) on my laptop might be disabled or not functioning properly, but I cannot find out which one could be the cause. Perhaps someone here could point me in the right direction.
ave had a this acer lap top for 2 months.. using charter cable for internet access.. ethernet cable cannection.. 3 weeks ago stopped being able to to connect to the internet... charter says it is the computer.. i am able to user the wireless connection fine.. have taken the laptop to the electronics store and it connects to their lan good and surfs.. but at home it will not get a valid ip addresss. per the cable company, the problem is the computer.. also when connected i am not able to select private network in network and sharing..
I am testing Vista RC1 on my work laptop. I have to map several drives on my machine to the company SCO server in order to get some software to run. However, i am able to ping the SCO server but unable to connect to any of the network drives with my username and log on. I am also an administrator on this system, and cannot even map with the admin password.
I can't get the drivers to install on vista for my new motorola cell phone, so I can import music to the phone. I already tried going to motorola's website and downloaded a newer version of the software, it still doesnt work.
The phone will not connect to the computer. Its a motorola v3m phone from verizon wireless. Any one else seen this problem? have a fix?
