It take minutes to click on anything. I have installed my Motherboard drivers and my GPU drivers to little effect. What is additional steps I can take to speed it up. Is it worth downloading the updates. If I do that it will probably take all afternoon. Plus I'll have to log off this computer.

What should I do before I install a new motherboard and processor to an existing Windows Vista Business x64 OS? I know I should probably uninstall all the drivers, but where do I find these?
View 4 Replies View Relatedlet me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe situation is I first installed with all 6Gb, sata controller on Bios on AHCI mode, took around 2 hours to install, a first start after install took around 8 mins, when trying to instal chipset drivers (Intelchipset) took around 3 hours to complete, reformatted changing sata mode to IDE, same situation, reformatted and "just to check" installed XP 32 to my surprise took only 10 minutes to complete install, and no more than 2 minutes chipset
Network and sound drivers, recognized all 8 cpu's and 6 gb on RAM, worked just the way it has to; reinstalled vista, same old prob, restarted on safe mode and realized that crcdisk.sys took around 6-7 minutes kinda hung up, HDD led off, lighting up once a while, then completing start-up, went to look for some info on that file and learned about 4+ gigs issue, removed 4 gigs of ram, restarted and vuala, took less than a minute for vista to start, and worked the way is meant to, activated vista, updated to SP2, turned system off, renistalled whole memory, restarted and same old prob, almost 10 mins to start, restarted to safe mode, crcdisk.sys again, kinda stuck. Do you know any solution, Microsoft didn't give any solution unless I pay $$$ for support. (I already paid for original software and got no support)
My friend and I have been going back and forth about his computer for a while. When Vista is installed it runs fine. Its not until we add the ATI vista 64 drivers does the machine slow down to a crawl. Originally this was with an x1600xt so we upgraded to the hd2600xt. Same issue. Now comes the weird part. So we got our hands on a single core amd 64 3200+ cpu and put it in. Now the machine runs fine. Why would using a dual core processor slow the machine down significantly. He has set up a dual boot with xp 64 and it runs fine with the x2 processor.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy desktop system came with an OEM version of Vista Home Premium installed. This has since been upgraded to Ultimate. Unfortunately the mother board has developed a fault and I will have to replace it. The original motherboard is no longer available (manufacturer gone bust I think) so I have to replace it with a different make.
According to searches on Microsoft, to continue using an OEM version of vista any change of mother board must be of the same make and type as installed on the original system the OS version was licensed to. If this is true I will have to purchase a full version of Vista or try and get another OEM version with a motherboard. (VERY expensive so not an option) Has anyone had the same problem and know if this is true or know of a way round this.

my computer used to see(recognize) my memory (SD)cards before,then it just stopped one faithful day.actually i have this software that on activation,it tells me the drivers my computer needs.and ever since i downloaded and installed this drivers it has stopped working(my SD card reader).
when i check device manager the SD memory card shows this yellow marking on it and when i double-click on it,it tells me ,THIS DEVICE CANNOT START(CODE10).i have tried uninstalling,i have even tried upgrading,but none of them worked. i use a Dell laptop,VOSTRO1510.
I have a Samsung 2253LW wide screen monitor and the highest resolution i can get is an appauling 1280x960. I just took my computer for repair to get a new GFX card and in there shop with my comp running through an old school CRT 15inch monitor i can get a resolution of 1600x1200. As soon as i plug it back into my Samsung at home it can only reach 1280x960 againb. I have contacted Samsung and they are useless as usual. I have the latest Samsung and Nvidia drivers installed.

I installed the 'drivers and utilities' software from CD onto the 1705. After many attempts with no printing, I now see that neither the printer nor our digital camera are on the 'compatible' list for Vista. Is there anything that we can do so that we don't have to use my computer exclusively when we want to print or upload digital pics?

Can I avoid reinstalling all the system and applications by keeping the existing system partition? Re-activating Windows should be legally possible (even by telephone) because my Vista version is a full retail one. I don't expect it to be that simple, but maybe someone has some advice about using the Vista Recovery Environment to re-build the HAL, or erasing certain registry keys in Safe Mode to force Vista to reinstall the correct system devices. At present, I can not get past booting under Safe Mode, so there has to be more to the process - if one is achievable

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently updated some drivers, particularly video and HP printer. Now my system has started limping. When I open any program, it takes for ever to open the program. Even after it is open, it takes a long to accept any keystroke. I am using Vista home premium 32 bit with 4 gigs of ram operating Dell Inspiron 531 AMD Athlon 5000 plus. I have full scanned with Norton IS2010 and Malware byte and Advanced System optimizer and found no malware.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWith UAC active the internet is unexceptibally slow. Personal setting do not stick in Windows Explorer. For no reason when setting do stick they will revert back to defaults. So, upgrading to Vista SP1 has not fixed my issues. Was a waste of time

Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.
My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster
While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

I have noticed in task manager that the Physical Memory is up over 90% after extracting a large file. I never used to have this problem how can I fix it?

My system boot program shows that it sees all 8GB and there is no indication there is a problem with any of it. The motherboard will support even larger modules. View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed my computer I found the standard Windows firewall in Vista premium. I trusted this and did not want to slow down the system by adding an other firewall. Besides, this policy also was discouraged by the helpfiles that came with the system. Virusprotection was not done by the system, so advisable to install a virusprotection tool. I read a lot on the net on that item and finally installed Avast antivirus.
So far so good. Had no troubles from oktober 07 till a week ago. Than I decided to destall Avast and to install One Live one care. The critics did not take me to this. But I think it is a good policy to have the safety issues in the same hand as the system resources are. I take another step and expect the safety cause covered in the system itself. Sell a new car without safety features! I installed the One care, I did want to give it my support, I did not expect it to be bad at all................
start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore, or from desktop shortcut created from same entry, When opening system restore, it takes, by the clock, almost 3 minutes to open. Also happens in safe mode. That which I have tried: sfc /scannow
Tested ram with MemTest86 for > 8hr; passed. Tested HDD with HDD [ WD SATA; 160 GB ] diags; passed. I am helping a friend, who said the laptop, HP Pavillion dv6245 was slow. I uninstalled Ad Aware 2008. Now, the only slowness I have been able to uncover is opening the system restore interface.

The the only difference I can see that could be affecting it is that at home I use wifi to connect to the internet. I'm always connected to the internet. At work there is no wifi, and not connected to the internet. Could it be trying to do something online, but since it cant connect, keep trying and trying and trying slowing everything down? To fix it I have to restart it. This seems to do the job, however I'd rather not have to do this every time. At home this never happens. I never have to restart it to get it to move faster. And this happens EVERY TIME at work.
