I rebooted and hit F10 to set up and found that the storage drive is no# 1 and my main drive is no#3. How do I get the storage drive to be after my main drive. So it will boot up from it. I received an error: Error details: Code 57A. I tried multiple times to install, all with the same error. I did try downloading the update to my desktop, and install with the option "run as administrator...no luck. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)
I just bought and installed a external hard drive. I am fairly knowlegable about computers but this is my first Ex. Hard drive and know very little about there use. So what I want to know is how to save my Family Tree Makers files to it. And once I do that how do I know for sure it is opening from my new drive and not my computer C: drive? I saved it to a DVD one time but when the time came when I needed it all that was there was a short cut but no files.

The files in question are windirlogcbscbs.log and it shows cbs package serving failure and windows wcp store corruption.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

However, when I'm trying to Install it, as soon as I enter the product key during the instalation process, I keep getting these error messages sayin: "Install Windows: setup.exe - Bad Image C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcespidgenx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."
And then once I click OK, it says under the product key "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." I tried restarting the upgrade, and then the computer and the problem still exists. Do anybody have any suggestions to fix this? And what do they mean by "Try installing the program again using the original installation media"?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows Update has tried on numerous occiasions to install Service pack 1 but it fails every time. I went to the vista site and downloaded it on the stand alone link. It downloaded and got half way through installation and it said there was an error. Unfortunately I didnt write down the error code. Why wont it install? Does anyone know? I havent bothered too much about it til now but I wanted to install a 3 broadband dongle modem yesterday and it wont install and I am wondering if the service pack not being on there is causing that.

The C drive is the drive that hold all my programs, the D drive is for extra backup. Yesterday my laptop was showing me an error saying I'm low on memory. I thought that to be odd as I haven't really installed anything. So I uninstalled programs or software that I didn't need or used. Today no matter what I uninstall, and that has been quite a bit, the error keeps popping up saying that I have no memory left. Then it showed me I had 18 MB left and I went back to work. Within a short period of time, I suddenly had no memory left.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen she double clicks the CD/DVD drive on the Explorer an error message appears: I noticed that additional to the default options on the context menu, that is right click the CD/DVD drive there is an extra one that says:Install or run a program It doesn't matter the type of media present in the drive, it will always appear whether I double left-click or Enter-key on it. Still, if she right click's the drive and select Open or Explore or Play, everything will be fine, but I looked over the web trying to remove context menu options for hardware drives but couldn't find a clue.
I tried changing all the default actions for the drive to ask what to do, nothing changed. That extra option is default forever. Also checked this article about Autoplay Handlers And looked on the registry for some explicit Key that says "Install or run a program" and that may be the problem, but in this case nothing similar showed up. Is not a big deal so far, but IT IS ANNOYING! and I really would like to get rid of that option.
Yes me again with another puzzle I right clicked my C: Drive with the intention of turning "index drive for faster searching" off, but I get error boot/memtest etc........and therefore cannot do this, first of all is it wise for me to try and do this, and secondly how do I get around this error? When I try to run a game, using 'steam' it tries to install directx before failing, so I found the download myself and tried, it failed. The error said: 'INTERNAL SYSTEM ERROR OCCURRED refer to DxError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.' So what any ideas, I need directx but I cant have directx. View 9 Replies View RelatedI checked my setup and my laptop allows boot from USB drive. When I rebooted after setting it for USB first, I had to unplug my USB drive to get it to look at my C drive which is where XP is installed now.
1. So can I leave my XP drive in and install Vista on the USB drive from CD drive. It's not a thumb but a 100GB sata HD
2. Do I choose which OS to boot with by whether that USB is plugged in or not. I thought I remembered before it would give you x number of seconds to tell which device to select at boot. maybe that was the old laptop that only allowed HD or CD.
I'm thinking when Vista is up and I'm happy with it I could then have a spare mirror of my successful install to fall back on if anything went wrong later. I wish I'd realized I had this choice before the last 2 XP clean installs. BTW, my laptop is HP if that has any bearing. I have constant explorer breakdowns and wonder if it's XP or XP on HP TY, Kate
I had a fire a few months back which burnt my Acer T180 case. I've managed to change the case and get all the parts working again except the DVD rom which was melted and beyond repair. As my whole house is wireless I'm not really bothered about getting a new DVD rom - my other PC controls the network and has a DVD writer inside. Once vista is installed the network will take care of everything.
My problem now is how do I reinstall Vista on a PC that has no DVD rom to read my Vista DVD. OK I could swap my DVD around for a few hours by its covered in warranty void stickers and as its new I don't want to risk anything. Is there anyway to convert a Bootable DVD into a Bootable USB drive? I've got a 4 Gig stick which should be fine. My motherboard also boots from USB. I've managed to make a copy of the vista DVD into ISO image but can't find a program that will put the ISO onto a USB drive.
Just brought a 1tb hdd samsung for my dell inspiron. I replaced my original wd 250gb hdd port space with this one (on serial 0) in my inspiron 530 and stuck the original 250gb hdd on another spare port.(serial 4) I ghosted an image of the original hdd onto the samsung using norton ghost 14.
However when i boot the pc back up the primary hdd is always the original wd 250gb hdd and the samsung is allocated another drive letter and is not running the os even though all files appear to be installed. When i disconnected the original hdd wd 250gb and just try to boot the new samsung 1tb it wont boot and says the disk is not bootable when i try to physically boot it. Which i guess is why the other disk normally boots up instead......
VISTA: HP Media Ctr PC less than 2 years old has two DVD drives. Sager notebook PC has one DVD drive. HP high end notebook PC has one DVD drive. After recent large Vista updates were installed on all three PCs, none of the DVD drives will permit installation of software from DVD. Checked Internet for solutions, checked registry settings, nothing wrong, nothing worked to restore function. What do I do?
