View 4 RepliesI haven't used Windows mail (only used to read news groups) in some time, when I went to use it this morning I received this error message; Folder could not be opened Windows mail could not open this folder. The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".
why no Windows 7 account or folder or category here yet? This is MS and they do not have Anything here about Win7?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the vista Ultimate 32 bit after using the 64 bit for several years . The reason behind that was i missed using some software and my Epson Scanner. I have reinstalled the 64 bit twice. First time i deleted the Program Files Windows old without an issue , Second time i could not delete it. When i installed the vista 32 bit , there it was again but i let the updates finish , defraged The drive and found that the windows old created a Program Files X 86 folder and there was all my old 64 bit software and drivers. I could delete all but the common files , windows Collaboration, Windows Media Player.
My Question : Is / Was this Normal ? I don't think so. How do I Delete This? windows old Folder in C drive ? and the Program Files X 86 folder? Should I start over? There was never an option for the windows old Folder. It was bought and paid for. I have also posted this day about two other issues in the Media Center. It can not get the right TV Guide listings and the other was my Display will not turn off when the PC is off. The monitor just displays the "no signal" message.
choose "drive options" then format the partition you intend to install the OS to and that will do away with the Windows.old folder. since i now have the 32 bit version installed, and i reinstall the 32 bit again, I'm guessing the windows old 64 bit program files will not be there except what I cant or have not yet deleted will no longer be there. Considering That I have another question now. If I do manage to create a Partition in Drive C How can i use that second Partition to store all of the restore points or other related files? I have a second Drive 1 TB. in the past windows used it automatically to store backup files. Especially for the complete PC backup ...
By default, the Inbox shows the field "From" while the Sent folder shows "To". When I create subfolders for the Inbox (eg. Business, Important, Personal, etc) again it shows "From" as you'd expect.
However, if I try and create a subfolder for my Sent folder, instead of having the field "To" it now shows "From". I don't need "From" as it's obvious it was sent from me! I've tried making changes by fiddling around with the columns, but unfortunately any changes I make in this Sent Items sub-folder will impact the Inbox which I don't want changed.
I recently bought my computer from a family member and now that I am looking at the settings and everything... I changed the User Account Name to mine (Johnny) but when I check the Users folder it displays two folders which are Jose and Public. My brothers name (Jose) stayed. When I check the Desktop menu John appears as the main folder. How come the folder (which is the same as Johnny's) in the Users section differs in name... How do i change it, I have tried everything I could think of from changing the user's name to changing the comp's name.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently done a clean install of VISTA Ultimate on a new hard disk. This is an upgrade copy, so I used the "old" disk and ran it from there. Vista runs on the C drive now, but I can't free up space on the "old" D drive because I can't delete the Windows folder or any of the files or folders in it. I'm denied access. Tried the Administrator account trick. Tried everything. Disk clean up tool. This is my biggest complaint with running VISTA for the past year: I can't access my own computer because I'm told I don't have permission! I built them, I run a home network of 3 machines and I'm continually told I don't have permission to do what I want or need to do. UAC is off.

I can't see this folder or its contents in Windows Explorer, and I can't cd to it or dir its contents in command prompt running as administrator, but yet all of the eBooks that I have downloaded to this location are working normally. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Vista (64-bit) on a desktop, and I am attempting to access/salvage folders on a hard drive from my laptop (that is no longer bootable) in order to copy these files to another device. The old hard drive ran on a Windows 2000 platform, and I am attempting to access a User folder under Documents and Settings. My Vista system tells me that I do not have permission to access this folder. I have right-clicked on this folder to bring up Properties, and it appears that I do have authority. In Windows 2000 one was able to log on as an Administrator, but in Vista I go straight to the desktop at the time of boot. I am sure that this must be handled in User Control, for example, but I am not certain of the procedure.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is about Windows 7, I do not know whether this is an issue in Vista. Seems like Microsoft has undervalued the folder view, maybe even trying to get rid of it. Some time after Windows 98, I think Microsoft improved folder view by allowing a single click on the folder name to expand subfolders underneath. Now with Windows 7, clicking on the default taskbar folder opens with the folder view exposed. Apparently Microsoft again understands how useful folder view is. But, unless I am mistaken, here we go again... Currently I am looking at Windows 7, trying to find the setting to allow single clicking on a folder name in the folder view to expand the folder. Before, it was the same function as clicking on the small plus mark on the left side of the folder name. In the main window of Windows Explorer, you can enable hover to select and a single click to expand the folder, but that IMO sucks when working with files.
Is there a setting in Windows 7 which allows a single click on a folder name in folder view to expand the subfolders underneath that folder in folder view? Or are we stuck once again having to click the small plus sign to the left of the folder name?
This is easy to do in XP but Vista SP1 still seems to be broken or is it me?
Is there a way to set Explorer folder views?

In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a computer where I can't access the Explorer Folder Options (specifically the Folder and Search options under the Organize submenu.)
When I select it, I get an error message labeled 'Restricted.' The text reads "This option has been cancelled due to restrictions See your administrator."
However, I should point out that I DO still have admin priveleges. I can access any other menu or option. I can edit the registry, change the internet explorer options, use the group policy editor, whatever.
Most of the potential solutions I found relate to either a program changing the restrictions for Explorer folder options; but the associated registry entries where those restrictions would normally be 'keyed' are not present.
Editing the group policy (which by default is 'not configured') to 'disable' the 'Remove Folder Options' policy has no effect whatsoever. Editing the registry, adding keys, and then disabling them, also has no effect.
Using NOD32 and scanning in safe mode results in no infection found, and I'm not seeing the telltale signs of an infection (such as limiting my admin priveleges in other areas, like registry editing or using the control panel applets.)
Hijack this does not provide any clues; it all looks clean (with the exception of some leftover services from TuneUp Utilities, which I ended up cleaning out manually.) Cleaning this did not change the problem at hand.
Using a restore point from several days ago did not fix the problem. I could go further back but I don't even know when this problem began. Maybe as long as a month ago.
I inadvertently deleted a Folder is there any way I can restore the folder and its contents? I do not have a backup of my mail.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. Does anyone have a solution? I'd rather not re-install Vista...PS: The problem seemed to exists in W9x and ME too Windows Explorer-Left Pane Empty - Tech Support Guy Forums and has a fix from MS, to delete a part of the registry, but this does not work for Vista.PS: I've read Brink's information on resetting Folder View settings and tried this to..
Is there a way of doing this in My Computer &/or Windows Explorer? Windows has always shown file sizes, but NOT FOLDER SIZES unles you right click for the pop out menu, then click Properties. This is too time consuming for me. All I want to do is find which folders are using up so much HDD space so I can then go in & delete the culprit files. If Windows won't allow this simple request, is there some 3rd Party Utility available?
