Turn Off Alerts: Windows Defender Alerts Me When It Blocks One Of My Start-up Programs
Mar 23, 2008Windows defender alerts me when it blocks one of my start-up programs. Trouble is, it keeps alerting me throughout the day. I want to turn the alerts off. In Defender-Tools-Default Actions, I have set High Alert, Medium Alert and Low Alert all to Ignore. But it still alerts me.

Dec 16, 2008A and B doesnt seem to be getting the inherent permission needed to run its checks succesfully. im constantly being blocked by pb . ive checked both pb A and pb B in syswow64 and although i can set full permisions . i cant seem to set inherent permission . is there a way to force vista to give these files "full inherent permision" ? things i have tried and not worked just to save u time posted. contacted evenbalance. (they say its vista not allowing inherent permision.) reinstalled everything, bf2 ,patch , pbsetup exe, updated pb uninstalled via pbvsc and reinstalled in the same way. i have no firewalls, uac is off, and ive checked both pb A and pb B they are NOT being blocked. checked packet flow via pingplotter. its fine. very good connection. basically i want vista to allow pb to run effectively without being blocked by vista.

Jul 8, 2008I just installed a new video card MSI NX8800GT on a new Packard Bell that came with Vista pre-installed. I checked power supply which was sufficient (400w). Everything went smoothly also when installing the drivers which came on an MSI CD. When restarting the PC he blocked when he was on the desktop screen. After that it has been impossible to restart the pc. He blocks even before he starts uploading vista.

Feb 5, 2008I reinstalled Vista fresh on the drive and now it gives me this horrible distortion in the graphics. Everything installs fine, I assume. I just can't do anything because I can't see anything. It's not black, but has tons of blocks all over it. I was thinking it was my graphics card taking a dive, but I can get OSX86/Ubuntu with Desktop effects to run fine. So, I am at a loss, as both the other systems require graphics acceleration. It's just Vista that doesn't want to work.

How can I figure out what setting I need to relax in Parental Controls, to allow me to access my mail? For me it is less urgent than for my son: he is also prevented from using the web gui, and doesn't have the luxury of an Outlook account.

Jan 18, 2010We were so very very happy and pleased that Malwarebytes free version helped clean out the InternetSecurity2010 virus/trojan infection, thereby resurrecting this Toshiba Satellite (WinXPMediaEdition2002,Sp3).
That.... we purchased a key code enabling Malwarebytes to run all the time
We did this despite some warnings by one or two posters on this site... '
well,
we have found out that Malwarebytes ... first...blocked access to one of our email IP host sites. After over an hour of searching, we found out how to add that site to the program's "ignore list' so that it stopped blocking that access.
Now we have discovered that Malwarebytes has disabled com port 3, which our internal modem was using to reach the internet.
SO, we have disabled Malwarebytes. We still appreciate the fine programmers at that company ... but the keycode fee to enable realtime operation of their program is, we regret to say, best donated to St. Vincent de Paul (or Goodwill or Starvation Army) instead.
Does anyone just happen to know how to fix this easily in Malwarebytes, (the Device manager is no help) or else we will defer buying all the additional licenses were were planning for our other computers....

Feb 14, 2009Error on startup. After a period of time. Having scoured several topics in relation to this issue, I am still none the wiser and like many pledging for some guidance, I thought it best to post here. Some quick Background Info;
I made this computer using my old Powersupply ( Jeantech 500W) and Harddrive. I had previously used the graphics card in my old setup and had no issues. This was XP, different motherboard, processor etc. I formatted the Harddrive and installed Windows 64bit and installed all the new parts. Drivers are all up to date except the motherboard. (Of which the CD couldn't be detected)
When I turn on my computer, at the login screen I receive small blocks of colour that do not match the screens intended picture. On the log in screen this is normally minimal, but on my main desktop this will nearly cover the screen intermitantly. Sounds bad? But it will either fix itself in time with the "Windows has recovered the driver Atiamtag" Or, I pop open the Chess program and on load up this clears the issue..........
Uninstalling Some Programs Via The Add/remove Programs Tool
Apr 24, 2009Ive been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!

Mar 26, 2008I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

Mar 23, 2008I have a home network with a linksys wrt54gs router and 3 pc's running XP home. home and pro. I got a new Vista computer and inserted a linksys wmp54gs wireless adapter into it. I updated the router firmware a week before I got the new computer. I connected to the internet even though I had the wrong workgroup name. In attempting to find the other computers I fixed the workgroup name so it was the same and tried other things to no avail. I updated the adapter drivers because I found it had generic ones and yesterday I installed Vista SP1.
Now I can't get the internet anymore, much less file sharing. I disabled all firewalls for awhile. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON, Network set to Private, File Sharing: ON, Public Folder Sharing: ON, Password Protected: OFF, Media Sharing: OFF. I've run the repair wizard a number of different ways. I don't know enough to fool with Wireless Network Connection Properties unless someone holds my hand.

Jan 3, 2009I got a small problem which is to extend my desktop into second monitor. I used to do that in windows XP it was so simple, how ever it seems I got hard time doing it on Vista even thought I never did it on vista before. I went to Control Panel > Personalization > Display settings, it shows only 1 monitor and saying "(Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA..." I'm using Vista-64Bit. And on SLI mode and plugged the 2 monitors on the same graphic card. I tried Ultramon 3.0.3 but there still a problem, Ultramon detects only one monitor when I'm trying to use the second. I've been trying to do it in Nvidia software. How ever I ended up switching between monitors only. I tried to search around and ask around for more than 4 hours, And still no good.

Nov 11, 2008We have a wireless network setup in my house. I however am connected directly to the router with an ethernet cable. This was fine until recently when I was having a latency problem and RoadRunner had me bypass the modem to connect directly to the modem so they can make sure my router wasn't the problem. After that, I plugged the ethernet cable back into the router and now I keep getting prompted for a username and password for the PPPoE stuff.
My problem isn't connecting to the internet, I'm able to do that. But randomly, and it truely is random because sometimes it pops up and sometimes it doesn't on the same website, this PPPoE username/pass will pop up and sometimes if I hit cancel I'm able to load the page like normal and continue on. Other times when I hit cancel it does not load the page and I have to wait until later to try and load it again. The internet is broadband and from my reading should not require PPPoE or a username/password. Hopefully I've provided enough info, I'm not very techy and am not the one who setup the network. T
Mail Not Connecting With Att Site
Oct 27, 2009My emails would send and receive fine until this morning. Now Windows Mail keeps asking me for my user name and password, and not accepting the one I enter. I know I am entering the correct info because I have checked with the document I keep that information on. Also, I am able to log in at the att site. If I close the window asking for the info I get this error message

I try to set up or attach a USB device, and instead of connecting, I get a message that the driver can't be found and asking me to insert the disk. When I click that I don't have the disk, I invariably get a option to search for the driver, but it is never found. This has happened with two different flash drives, and just now I tried to set up a Pocket PC mobile device and got the same response. I have been using my laptop without SP1, and do not get these problems. It seems that the best thing might be to just get rid of SP1, but when I went to the installed updates window to try to uninstall it, I was not given that option

Apr 25, 2007We have a network connected to the internet through a T1 with 4 2003 Servers and several XP machines connected. We also have a Checkpoint firewall connected. Any time I try to connect a computer with Vista on it, it connects and can access the Internet fine. But EVERY other computer on the network loses connection. In the event log on the 2003 servers, it shows event id 4, network link is down. As soon as I disconnect the Vista computer, all of the others come back online. I've searched and searched for a resolution to this problem, but haven't found any. I'm really afraid the someone with a Vista laptop might come in and try to connect to the Internet (without telling me, of course) and cause the whole network to go down.
