Download Programs Recorded On A DVR?
Mar 23, 2008Can I download programs recorded on a DVR to a laptop with Windows Vista? If so, what is the best type of cable (UBS or firewire or Ethernet) to use?

Cannot Download Programs
Nov 8, 2007I know I need to find time to come here and just take a look at the difficulites you all are having, but I just CANNOT get impressed over VISTA. It's beyond disappointing to me. I find I cannot even download free trials of Office Suite, or Publisher, or CuteFTP, or anything else! In Office, when I'm in the free download area, I can complete ALL the other catagories, but the MINUTE I put in the language, the page rolls over, and wipes everything out -instead of sending me onto the download page! So do the other download areas.
Since VISTA won't work with my old Cute, or Office or Publisher, and I cannot even download these from online to see if they're compatible, what am I supposed to do with this machine? I work web designs, and my sister and I do an ENORMOUS amount of Ministry writing. This program is absolutely worthless to us! I will NOT buy the products only to find they don't work, unless I can trial them to see what bugs there are in all of them. And I don't have two weeks to sit down and get into the "guts" of this machine and methodically work it all out.
Can ANYONE give me some simple pointers as to how to retrieve download pages??? I got the folder fix from this place, only to have my machine delete it from my system (not even on my desktop or in my download file), so I had to come back here to retrieve it again! I don't think I have EVER dis-liked a system so much in my life -but am desperate to at least try some of these products on this "equipment". MSN never answers, and my Irish blood isn't fairing too well at this point!
Download And Install Various Programs
Nov 22, 2009I Have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit (SP1) My frustrations began when I tried to download and install various programs.
1) I had to go on a chat line to actually get Mozilla Firefox installed.
2) This machine will download things, but will never install. I have tried to install things like ITunes, KodakEasyShare.....no go
3) Have noticed that the Windows Update will not install the update for 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1. FAILS every time!
4) Error code that I get is 80200053 And when I try to install things this is the series of codes that I get:
1) Data error in ITunes64.msi : File is Broken
2) Data error in Quick time.msi. : File is Broken
3) Data error in Apple Software Update.msi : File is Broken
4) Data error in Apple ApplicationSupport.msi : File is Broken
5) Data error in Apple MobileDeviceSupport64.msi File is Broken
6) Data error in Bonjour 64.msi : File is Broken
7) Data error in MobileMe64.msi : File is Broken
8) Data error in Setup Admin.exe : File is Broken
I have run an antispyware...I was clean. I do not know what else to do. I am so frustrated it irks me to think a brand new computer would have all these gliches already!
Programs Wont Install After Download
Jan 29, 2008my computer with Vista Home Premium 32 will not install downloaded software. After download a window just pops up and says 'windows has identified a porblem with this software' saying it is not digitally signed. The main program i am trying to down load is AVG (but it does it with other programs too) , i know the software is good because i used to have it on my laptop. If have installed the certificate but still no joy.

Apr 2, 2008I have disabled some start up programs I do not want to sart up in Vista. I keep getting this annoying message reminding me of this when Windows start and when it is open. In XP there was a check box to keep this from showing, how do I turn this off in Vista.
Also I sometimes get files by e-mail such as Access programs that I am working on for a customer. Windows Vista will not let me open these. Message: This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems. To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location. I copied it to my D partition but still Vista will not let me open it. I had to copy it to my zip drive and then open it on my XP computer.
Unable To Download Exe Files And Install Programs From CD's
Apr 5, 20095 days ago I posted a problem about not being able to download exe files and not being able to install programs from CD's. The problem had been addressed a couple of years ago and none of those solutions worked, along with no recent listings of the problem. Mar 23, 2008Recently this unit is not recognising pre-recorded or formatted discs which it previously had recognised. I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK.

For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!

Mar 26, 2008I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

Mar 1, 2009when i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

Nov 18, 2009The version of Vista I use, running IE7, cannot download .exes. My XP computers, running IEs 7 and 8, and once 6, have never been so irritating. (i'd say my faith in vista is dwindling, but it was never there to begin with.) I've tries to download many a .exe. This time, for reference, it's Ventrilo. Certainly not a shady program - trusted by supposed millions. When prompted, if I click Run, the file appears to download, but when it has finished, the dialog box disappears and nothing else appears.Ever.

There is no error message. There is no message of any sort. Repeated attempts to download do nothing. Renaming the download to .ok, or some other name (in anticipation of renaming it to .exe once downloaded), as suggested in a previous thread, does not work. I have tried temporarily turning off certain securities, to no avail.

Jul 19, 2008I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Windows Updates wants me install Service Pack 1.
1) I am up-to-date with Windows Updates, so do I really need the Service Pack?
2) Also, isn't it just going to take up unnecessary hard drive space since most of the fixes in SP1 were already downloaded by Windows Updates?
3) Does SP1 automatically not install whatever is already on the computer?
