Down The Network: Jump From 97ms To 1200ms?

Oct 30, 2008

When I plug in my network cable into one computer, it brings down the network, ping times jump from 97ms to 1200ms? Any thoughts? There was a trogan found but it was supposed to have been cleaned. I have AVG Free on this PC, and every time you plug in this network cable to this pc the is a trogan caught. The same one over and over. And it says it is deleted. I even found it in the regestry and dleted it.

Should I Jump?

Aug 3, 2007

I'm soon purchasing an HP NC8430 business laptop that comes standard w/ Windows XP.I have a legal copy of Windows Vista Ultimate both 32 bit and 64 bit.I plan to upgrade the RAM in the laptop to 4GB and install a 7200 rpm HD.I have checked HP's support site for this laptop and they appear to have all of the drivers for Vista 64 bit.I do not use any esoteric hardware so other drivers are not an issue.I use recent commercially available software for the most part (or open source). So my question is, is there any reason I should not install Vista 64 bit?I plan to run a virtual XP box on the laptop for anything that will absolutely not run on Vista.

USB Jump Drive No Longer Works With

May 16, 2008

Cruzer jump drive does not work with Vista but does work on my other comptuer with XP. It did work until recently but now the system wants to format the drive instead of allowing me to drag and drop files. The multimedia drive also quit working.

Using Vista Premium on a Toshiba A205 -S4607. Have been unable to find an email for tech support from Toshiba. Will not buy another computer from them!

Can anyone provide a fix. Have tried using and earlier restore point along with deleting the UBS drivers under System - devices but to no avail. Mouse, printer, keyboard, and Matrox external disk drive are all recognized.

Download Files Onto Jump Drive

Apr 24, 2010

I have a train collection and have a program called TrainTracker that I use to keep track of the pieces in my collection. I have the program on my home PC, which runs Widows XP, but when I bought my laptop about a year ago with Windows Vista Home Premium, I copied the program from my PC (Windws XP) onto a jump drive and pasted it onto my laptop (Vista). Everything was going according to plan.

Now I take my laptop where my trains are and I add a bunch of pieces and I want to copy the file from my laptop (Windows Vista) onto a jump drive, so I can then paste it onto my PC (Windows XP) and have the updated TrainTracker, with all the additions I've made. Well, when I copy it from Vista onto a jumpdrive, all it will copy is the original program which I transferred from my PC onto my laptop. It won't copy the new items I've added onto the program.

Cursor Will Erratically Jump Beginning Line

Mar 23, 2008

I have never had this problem with Windows XP. I have had this same problem with several vendors computers, so I don't think it is hardware. It only happens with Vista. When typing text, the cursor will erratically jump to the beginning of the line, a different place in the same line or a spot in some previous line of text. If I am not watching what I am typing, my text is messed up. It happens in Word, when typing an email message or different software packages that I have so I don't think it is the software product; it must be Vista.

Cursor Jump From An Intended Target To Another Target That Is To Its Left

May 15, 2010

My cursor (Logitech cordless optical trackman, setpoint 4.8, Vista 64-bit, Maxthon 2) has been acting quite crazy on occasion (not always). It will jump from an intended target to another target that is to its left. Also, when brought to a yes/no button and left clicked, nothing happens. Moving the cursor ever so slightly causes it to jump left at a 45 degree angle. Bringing cursor back to target and left clicking, now works. Ans, sometimes icons in my tackbar don't open on the first click, they need a second click. Happens mostly in my browser, but also happens elsewhere. This odd behavior may have started when I updated my Nvidia card. Thinking here is that Setpoint 4.8 did quite connect with the updated Nvidia. So, I tried to download and install the newest setpoint, 6.0. During instillation got the alert that "You are running a 32-bit installer in a 64-bit OS, please run correct installer." Well, my Windows Installer is 4.5, but I can't tell if it is or isn't for 64 bit. And to add fuel tot he fire, Logitech tells me that the instillation of the Setpoint application should be done by the logitech installer.

Windows Mail: Cannot Jump Folder To Folder

Mar 23, 2008

In my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.

I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".

File Sharing/network Discovery On, Private Network, Password Protection Disabled

May 6, 2008

I have Vista x64 and I have read threads on this for weeks and can't fix it. I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I
can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...

2 Network Adapters And Become Default Network Adapter?

Mar 16, 2009

One usb ethernet adapter for internet connection through an old router, one for a Linksys Wireless G router hard wired to remote security cameras sums up the problem where one cancels the other out. This is a problem for XP, Vista, and even 7 beta while the primary system still runs XP. The dsl connection is through an old dsl setup using a usb adapter while the Linksys pci adapter card or usb adapter once installed becomes the default network adapter.

The wireless router itself is plugged with the RJ-45 ethernet adapter directly into the main controller/dvr box for live wireless feed to the main XP system or this one as a second means along with direct plug in to a tv set in the room where the main box is located. In XP, Vista, and even the later 7 beta the same problem of running two adapters without conflict is the main question needing a working solution. This thread is intended to tax the most network familar people here.

The landlord runs the main XP system with eventual plans to upgrade to Vista while this system serves as a testing machine a good deal of the time explaining multiple OSs as a rule. The router and adapters are in working order not seeing any defects while canceling the original dsl adapter out when installed. That takes out the online connection in the process.

On NT Network

Jun 2, 2008

I have 2 Vista machines just recently installed onto our NT network. Everything appeared to work fine. After about a week or so, the Vista's weren't able to access the shared drives on the network. This seems to be related to a "authentication" issue on the NT or Vista. It doesn't happen on a daily basis, just once in a while - usually when someone needs something. Is there a fix i'm over looking? This is starting to become a problem. Sometimes i can fix the problem by shutting down the vista machine or the machine it happens to authenticate too - some times the vista doesn'tauthenticate to the NT - I have had it go to the backup server(s) and even an XP machine.

How Can Network Together

Oct 2, 2009

I currently have a laptop running Vista Home Basic (probably going to upgrade to Ultimate) and Im about to buy a new desktop (If I upgrade my laptop to Ultimate I also update the desktop to Ultimate)

I am wondering how I can network them together so that I can;
- Share user-accounts
- Share files (read, save, write). These files are read/save/written onto the desktops hard drive
- Sharing internet is not a problem but if I need to share the internet to laptop through the desktop (or vise versa) it doesn't matter
- Share programs

How would I do this? I can use cable to connect them but I would like my laptop wireless so that I can move about the house with it. The desktop will not have wireless (Dell told me that their desktops don't come with wireless)..........

No Network After Hibernation

Feb 2, 2009

Was having a strange network problem after computer woke from hibernation; it did not happen before Service Pack 1 and never happened with XP. The problem was the internet connection would time out, partially load pages, and generally stumble & fail after resuming from sleep or hibernation. I went into Task Manager and grabbed this screenshot of the network throughput:

The green is throughput, it goes from 100% to 0%, it is apparent the computer was turning the connection "on" and "off" at regular intervals.

My network card is an Intel Pro 100/1000 built into my Abit IC7-G motherboard.

The problem was apparently the sleep mode setting on the card itself; there were no settings available for sleep mode, etc on the card using the default Vista drivers, but after installing the updated/specific drivers from Abit I was able to go into the Device Manager and there was another properties page (with Intel logo) that allowed me to disable sleep mode for the network card. That seems to have fixed it, I have not had the problem again in over a week.

Fell Off The Network

Feb 10, 2009

Vista (Home Premium)- XP SP3 network worked fine for several months. About 3 days ago, Vista dropped off the network. Still connects to internet via Linksys WRT300N router - DSL modem, but refuses to share its printer or files on the intranet.

I can ping all computers from any computer using IPs, but cannot ping Vista machine with its name. Also cannot ping any machine from Vista using the machine name.

I believe the problem is related to Network Discovery being set to 'custom'. However when I attempt to either turn Discovery on or off, the line blinks with the correct setting & then immediately returns to 'custom'. Same thing happens with the file sharing setting. All the other settings can be controlled as expected.

Vista firewall is OFF and Norton Internet Security fire wall has trusted connections to XP machines.

Are these the usual symptoms that call for removing Norton Internet Security and installing the new LLTD protocol?

That is how it looks in the networkcentre..

Anyone knows this problem or knows how this can be fixed? Under here there's how it looks like, it's dutch lol, but you probably can figure out what is what.

alleen lokaal = only local
inschakelen = turn on
uitschakelen = turn off

Can't Connect To Network

May 3, 2010

I moved into a new house and for some reason my computer won't recognize any networks.
All the obvious things have been taken care of (my computer is on etc etc, the wireless light is on etc etc I have other computers woring wirelessly on the same connection and so forth) and it just won't recognize any networks. I went into device manager to see what was going on with the WiFi. It tells me that I need to turn on my wireless, but it is on. I went in and tried to disable it and reenable it. My computer promptly froze. After I forced it to end task I went back to look at it. It tells me that my no drivers are installed for this device, but when I look at the drivers they are there. It also tells me that my invisible drivers are up to date. Little lost as to what is wrong with this piece of machinery.
