View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the extended disk clean up shortcut, right clicked, ran as administrator, had all checked except for setup log files as strongly suggested, clicked ok, it said it was calculating the space I would regain by cleaning, it went straight to cleaning without showing the amounts in each checked section, and finished. I ran the utility to see about the error bug in reporting the size of the amounts as discribed and wanted to see if I had this bug to worry about. Why didnt the disk cleaning utility show me the amounts found in the locations and ask me if I wanted to go ahead and delete all the files? anyone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI went to run disk clean up, and in the Windows Error Reporting section I have over 60 gigs of "data". Anyway,I thought that was wierd so I looked into it, and found out there was a bug. But I got the registry fix from this site, and that didn't change anything. Also I checked my registry editor and it looks like it is all there. How can I make sure I don't have this "bug" that deletes my OS?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was going to run SP1 Disk Clean up tool but I need clarification from this warning from BRINK:
"WARNING
Running the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Disk Clean-up tool permanently removes the ability to uninstall the Vista SP1. Do not run this tool unless you have no plans of uninstalling the Vista SP1 and just want to save or regain hard drive space. The only option to remove the SP1 after using this tool is to do a clean install of Vista".
If for any reason I need to clean install Vista, would this be a problem? In other words, would I be able to... after having used SP1 Disk Clean up tool?
Does anyone know why Disk Cleanup will not clean the recycle bin? CCleaner cleans it just fine.

I can login in safe mode, I activate the built-in administrator account, I create a new account (administrator) but no use, trying to login with these new accounts, get same results.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHere's a screen. It shows the size of the C:Windowswinsxs folder which is takin up an awful lot of space which I wonder if I can reclaim somehow. The reason for me to post this thread in Windows Updates section is because I know that this is the folder used by Windows Update to back-up files. On my dual boot XP install I have sometimes reclaimed space by deleting a few of the windows Update back-up folders. I wonder If the same can be done for Vista? Now, I know that it's not right to delete such system back-ups but If my system is running fine after a month of installing the update, then I guess, it should be fine to delete them. Also, I wouldn't mind it if it was a few MB but this folder's a whooping 8gigs which I could use in a better way for sure!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate, when I run disk cleanup, either through cleanmgr or drive properties it gets to temporary files then goes nowhere, after 30 minutes the progress meter has not moved (it is at about 50%) and if I leave it running it just disappears after a while (I have not timed this but it is longer than 30 minutes). I have run a check on my hard drive and it is okay. Is there a fix for this or if not how do I clean up "temp" files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I'm unable to delete a temporary folder on C:. This folder was used by an application to create an ISO file. If the job had succeeded the app deletes the temp file. I was forced to kill the job due to lack of disk space, so the folder was not deleted. In an account with Administrator privileges (not the hidden admin account), I ran the following commands in an elevated command prompt. Due to failure to delete higher folders, I am down at the lowest folder in a branch, "Documents", which is an empty folder. I would be grateful for any advice
C:vuimount5165804536UsersAdministrator>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 846E-81AE
Directory of C:vuimount5165804536UsersAdministrator

02/11/2006 14:04 <DIR> Documents
0 File(s) 0 bytes
3 Dir(s) 8,987,209,728 bytes free......
You can see from the dialog that the "del" command silently failed to delete the empty folder, "Documents".
I'm having issues with various programs on my 32 bit Home Premium Vista OS. It seems like a virus to me. When I try and open EXPLORER the infamous CLASS NOT REGISTERED error shows up. For many other applications I get the "WININET.dll NOT FOUND" error. I have tried REGISTRY MECHANIC and also tried to do a STARTUP REPAIR using the VISTA DVD. The Startup Repair utility does not seem to find any problems when I run it at startup.
I wanted to get opinions if all this was leading to a clean install or a repair install of Vista. I'm not sure if I have SP1 or SP2. I can't seem to get to any program that would give me that info because of aforementioned errors. Also if it is a clean install that I need to do, can I save my documents and music somehow first? Any ideas? Is it possible to use DOS Command Shell and try the COPY command to copy these folders to my portable hard drive, which is L: drive on my computer. I do have a few programs that run without the errors. One is Mozilla Firefox. I can see all my important files by typing "C:" in the Firefox browser (for eg. "//c:/Users/admin/Music"). Any way to copy them to "L:"? Or any way to back them up before OS installation?
I have an old machine i am giving away and decided to use the free upgrade disk sent to me back in 2007. It installed fine and I got SP1 on it and cleaned it up. After everything was done I noticed the E-Machines recovery partition was wiped. Is this because I now have the Vista upgrade disk with the # on that for the COA? Not the sticker on the machine.....I had to activate it with the # on the upgrade disk. I can't figure out why it would wipe the recovery partition with the factory XP image on it. Will this disk work if the next owner needs to do an install? Have you heard of this happening with OEM upgrade disks?
