for some reason my cd, d drive is full there are no cds in my computer and when ever i put a cd in, my computer doesn't even no theres anything in there, i think the problem started when my mum tried to burn a cd and im guessing took it out before it was completed also i have multiple iso programs and all of a sudden all there drives disappeared? and where replaced with these weird one?
View 8 RepliesI have an HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook with Vista Home Premium. The computer is just over a year old and the Pioneer DVDRW drive (DR-KD08HB) just stopped working. It no longer appears under Device Manager or Windows Explorer and the disk tray won't even open. I've had no problems with this drive before, it just seemed to die on me yesterday after I inserted a CD (which I can't retrieve). I ran the Microsoft Fix it 50027 but nothing happened. Is there anything I can do to get it working again?

It briefly said that drivers had been instaled and it appeared on my computer, then i put in a CD and DVD and it jut did not work. i have already uninstalled itunes!
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is the second time this has happened, only the first time it reappeared after i rebooted. Basically, i can't recall the day it 'disappeared' but it was over 4/5 days ago i think. I've rebooted a number of times, tried the DVD drive tutorial thing from windows, and ran a few scans and still nothing.
However, my device manager tells me that its working correctly. Great. I dont think i've done anything differently, i first noticed it was acting up when i converted and burnt a dvd onto a disk and the drive wouldnt open, so i had to reboot, it opened and then there was nothing on the disk, and from then on its gone........
I dont want to have to reinstal but, my DVD drive disappeared from the device list. I was presented with a message. I followed the instructions as seen. I have system restore but that failed. Im not sure what an ATA Channel 1 is. But I have a feeling its deep inside a cabinet file from the vista instalation disc. Im unable to access my DVD drive.

(you know, there is not "My" but let me call it like that for easier talk.) but shows well in view - detail or list something like that. So, I tested some tips. I also set a ShowDriveLettersFirst key in the regedit. still, I can't see drive labels. but they are shown in a dialog box of "save as..." does anybody know the solution or reason of this? can't see drive labels these 3 pics. but they show in this mode. and in this one(save as...) The drive letters come first because of the tip that I tested. c: drive has no label.(means "local disk" in korean. ) d: drive's label is "DATA". You might already have an inkling. I'm Korean. please forgive my bad english. and characters in those pictures are korean letters "Hangul". I'm really really sorry because I can't prepare english version.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy friend has vista home basic on his laptop . It is a total of 80gb I assume it is partitioned C and D drives. The D drive only has capacity of i think 6 or 7gb approx and the remainder is on his C drive and plenty of space. The HP (resario_RP (D) Drive is showing nearly full. I am assuming that the D drive is only supposed to be for recovery info ?. Why is is showing nearly full?
If it is because normal new programs and data info is storing there ... how can it be moved to C drive. Is there a default option somewhere for data to be stored? Also if he has made backups or restore points( which i think he may have done) would they store on D Drive. and if so can restore points be removed apart from the latest one if you know it is ok? A little longwinded with the questions but please excuse a silver surfer.
I am being told that Drive D is full. What is Drive D? I do not have anything in the CD/ROM drawer. My trash can is empty.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 250 gig backup drive which is now full and my weekly backup is failing. the drive I am backing up shows only 133 gig used in properties why has the back up exceeded the total disk usage i am backing up. The file structure on backupo drive shows only one backup set dated 2007-08-04 within which are the weekly folders for my backups each of which contains a varying number of zip files. I am reluctant to just delete and start over but cannot see a way of managing backed up data.

Some people don't have a problem and can access them and others get drive not available. How to fix? We have a Windows 2003 AD in mixed mode. Our people get their mapped drives from a batch file we created that looks like this: (net use p: \server1sharename /persistent:no) All servers and PC are up to date with all MS patches.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that even after being told it is "safe to remove hardware" the light on the thumb drive doesn't go off and the next time I put it into the USB drive of my Vista machine, it always says that the drive needs to be scanned and fixed. If it was just one thumb drive, I would think it was the drive, but I get this with all of them, I have three Dane Elec drives, two Sony, a Memorex and a SanDisk Cruzer. Is this a bug that hasn't been worked out yet, or is there something I am missing?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a WD MyBook 1TB external hard drive. It's a replacement for a LaCie drive that I broke accidentally. Because I broke my LaCie, which held all my backups, I need to do a full system backup so I have one on file. (I'm running Windows Vista Business SP1 on a Compaq Presario laptop. I've tried this both before and after SP1 and have got the same result.)
The weekly file-only backups I have scheduled with Windows Backup work fine. It's only the full system backup that gives me problems. Everything goes as planned: I select the MyBook as the destination, and Windows starts the backup. Once it gets near the end (I'd say about 90% done according to the status bar), I get the blue crash screen. I thought maybe my driver was out of date, but Windows Update can't find a newer one, neither can it when I go into the device's properties. Unless I'm missing something there, or it's something other than a driver issue.
Vista now will not install new programs. I get a warning box saying the temp folder is on a drive that is full or that I do not have write permission for. The temp file is where? It is on the C drive, which is nearly empty, and I am logged on as the administrator. What a pile of c***.

Would someone know of any utility or method to restore a SATA hard drive's factory full capacity size? During partitioning my drive, it went from 595GB (640GB Drive) to only 32GB. Since it is a 64-Bit system, I can't find a utility to restore the drive's full capacity.
I need to get a new external HDD for my laptop and I'm thinking of = getting an eSATA drive. My question is this: Can any HDD be turned into = an eSATA drive by housing it an enclosure which has an eSATA port or is = there something special about SATA drives? I'm not sure whether I should = buy an already enclosed SATA or buy the HDD and the enclosure separately = (cheaper option).

They are controlled by Intel matrix storage manager software. I want to have the two hard drives separate, like drive C and Drive D In the Bios I have two choices ATA or Raid, I have tried both ways to have them separate, however still can't. I have to say that I found this forum by chance, by goodness I am glad I did with drivers for my scanner and printer.

I would like to tranfer my entire drive incuding all files and the Operating system From my current IDE HDD to a new SATA Drive of the sames size (500 Gig) I need the IDE Drive for an older computer ( The 40 Gig IBM Deathstar still functions great, but all programs seem more bloated these Days)
Anyway I went to Administrative Tools and Formated the New Drive NFTS with no Drive Letter. But I cannot get it recognized as a transfer device when I go to system backup. Can I use 'C' on the second and soon to be only drive? If I have to use E or F for now can I change it back later. would that affect the file system? I intend to Low level Format the IDE and try cloning the old machine's XP Drive (32 bit) to it in the second place.
I am running a Vista 64-bit platform with a VMware guest, using Vista 32-bit. Although I have Windows Defender running in the guest system, I have not had any anti-virus software (I use McAfee on the host system). Last night, I downloaded and installed the AVG-free anti-virus software for the guest system. It was working as intended when I shut down the computer.
This morning, in booting to the guest system, there is no AVG software in sight. The downloadable program from AVG is not even found in the Downloads folder! Windows Defender is still operable, and telling me that I do not have an anti-virus program installed.
I backed up my files onto CD (work files). Made a number of CDs. I'm on dell inspiron 9300, w/ xp and did an upgrade to vista using an in place install. My understanding was that the programs AND files were to be carried over onto the new OS. All of my programs and applications stayed. But my files...gone! can't find any of them. And all but one of my CDs are good--except that for some reason the most important files are in an empty folder on one of the CDs, many months worth of work related documents- I must have messed it up when backing it up. Is there anyway to find the files that vista was supposed to keep? I picked up an external hard drive today when I realized how little space I had left but not soon enough to use it to back up before.

I looked onto 1 of the treads which had the solution to such a problem and changed the value of shell in the registry to explorer.exe.. However even then my desktop is not appearing on start up .. Only when i start a new process from task manager "explorer.exe", then my desktop appears..
I bought a new ASUS M51SN laptop last month running Windows Vista. I have subsequently loaded MS Office 2003, Skype, Norton SystemWorks and NERO8. I recently upgraded Vista with SP1, Nero, Skype and Norton to their latest versions and the ASUS Bios to 304. While I had a number of software problems prior to these upgrades, I placed my faith in the Vista upgrade, but am still left with a number of irritating problems.
My DVD burner has disappeared from Windows and Norton while Nero is still happy to test it (Diskspeed). The device manager says everything is good, but I cannot see the DVD in either Windows Explorer or My Computer. In the event log, I can see that the unit has encountered a number of bad block events, as well as a number of errors during a paging operation...............
Yesterday just before switching off I noticed that SP2 was available via Windows Update. As I was going to bed, I thought I would leave it until today to install it. When I go to Windows Update, SP2 is no longer offered, although some other updates were. SP2 hasn't been installed, so where has it gone? Will it be offered again?
