View 8 RepliesMy C: drive is that full I am having problems backing up, etc..I have deleted as many programs as I feel comfortable with via "Programs & features" and directly thru the folders. I currently have 1.21 GB free of 314 GB on the C: drive and 118 GB of 203 GB on the D: drive.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy friend has vista home basic on his laptop . It is a total of 80gb I assume it is partitioned C and D drives. The D drive only has capacity of i think 6 or 7gb approx and the remainder is on his C drive and plenty of space. The HP (resario_RP (D) Drive is showing nearly full. I am assuming that the D drive is only supposed to be for recovery info ?. Why is is showing nearly full?
If it is because normal new programs and data info is storing there ... how can it be moved to C drive. Is there a default option somewhere for data to be stored? Also if he has made backups or restore points( which i think he may have done) would they store on D Drive. and if so can restore points be removed apart from the latest one if you know it is ok? A little longwinded with the questions but please excuse a silver surfer.
I am being told that Drive D is full. What is Drive D? I do not have anything in the CD/ROM drawer. My trash can is empty.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 250 gig backup drive which is now full and my weekly backup is failing. the drive I am backing up shows only 133 gig used in properties why has the back up exceeded the total disk usage i am backing up. The file structure on backupo drive shows only one backup set dated 2007-08-04 within which are the weekly folders for my backups each of which contains a varying number of zip files. I am reluctant to just delete and start over but cannot see a way of managing backed up data.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a WD MyBook 1TB external hard drive. It's a replacement for a LaCie drive that I broke accidentally. Because I broke my LaCie, which held all my backups, I need to do a full system backup so I have one on file. (I'm running Windows Vista Business SP1 on a Compaq Presario laptop. I've tried this both before and after SP1 and have got the same result.)
The weekly file-only backups I have scheduled with Windows Backup work fine. It's only the full system backup that gives me problems. Everything goes as planned: I select the MyBook as the destination, and Windows starts the backup. Once it gets near the end (I'd say about 90% done according to the status bar), I get the blue crash screen. Here's what it says: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0X000000D1 (0X00000004, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0C807503FF)nvstor.sys - Address 807503FF base at 8074C000, DateStamp 458d543d It doesn't restart after that, it just sticks on the blue screen. I have to shut the computer off and then turn it back on to do anything. Can anyone clue me in on what might be going on? I thought maybe my driver was out of date, but Windows Update can't find a newer one, neither can it when I go into the device's properties. Unless I'm missing something there, or it's something other than a driver issue.
Vista now will not install new programs. I get a warning box saying the temp folder is on a drive that is full or that I do not have write permission for. The temp file is where? It is on the C drive, which is nearly empty, and I am logged on as the administrator. What a pile of c***.

Vista Home Premium - 64Bit
Gateway desktop.
Would someone know of any utility or method to restore a SATA hard drive's factory full capacity size? During partitioning my drive, it went from 595GB (640GB Drive) to only 32GB. Since it is a 64-Bit system, I can't find a utility to restore the drive's full capacity.
I am Using Vista Ultimate 64. I would like to tranfer my entire drive incuding all files and the Operating system From my current IDE HDD to a new SATA Drive of the sames size (500 Gig) I need the IDE Drive for an older computer ( The 40 Gig IBM Deathstar still functions great, but all programs seem more bloated these Days)
Anyway I went to Administrative Tools and Formated the New Drive NFTS with no Drive Letter. But I cannot get it recognized as a transfer device when I go to system backup. Can I use 'C' on the second and soon to be only drive? If I have to use E or F for now can I change it back later. would that affect the file system? I intend to Low level Format the IDE and try cloning the old machine's XP Drive (32 bit) to it in the second place.
I'm running Vista on a PC that has a hd that has been formated into 3 discrete drives.Vista is loaded onto the C drive, programmes are loaded onto the d drive while i have my data stored on my E drive. By default any documents I save are directed towards My Documents on the C drive - how I go about changing that so the default is my Documents on the E drive?
View 9 Replies View RelatedDue to a very long and unsuccessful attempt to get Office Enterprise to work properly on a new ACER (VISTA Home Premium) computer that came c/w a pre-installed trial version of Office 2007 as per Office technical support I need to do a clean install of VISTA. My problem is that the only option I have is to re-install the ACER factory load c/w the trial version and all of the other useless stuff. I am contemplating buying either a full or oem version of VISTA Home Premium, Format C, get rid of the hidden partition and start from scratch. What is the difference between oem and full other than the price.. Advice will be appreciated, this is my fourth computer but I have never needed to do anything this drastic before.
View 9 Replies View Related1 month from purchase my C drive was full all 68GB ??? no music, no videos. I use disk clean-up and a miserly 3mb are cleared. I search the drive for every file >1kb giving the total of all files hidden and not as 16GB. I try the computer tools/storage to ascertain why it???s full, disk rescan. I try number of things but nothing. The next day I reboot the laptop and as if by magic I have 52GB space capacity. 1 month I am at the time point 1GB spare capacity, I use TreeSize that tells me I have files totally 17GB. Why is Vista telling me I have no space left?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Home Premium Vista, 64bit and 688GB hard drive(size when checking C: drive). I recently checked and it showed less than half full. Then a few days ago I tried saving a file and I got disk full message. I checked the c: drive again and it showed full- no space available, which should not be. I did a defrag, check disk and that did not work. I do remember seeing a warning around that time, but it vanished before I read it all. I think it said a file was not working or was corrupted and may have said something about "Catalyst". I found Catalyst Control Center on my computer, but that seems to be ATI card (graphics card?). I did delete a bunch of junk so it can now function, but latest check still shows only 72 MB available and that can't be.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot system with W7 on a second HDD. I am trying to make a full PC Backup without backing up my W7 disk (because it fails the backup). The second HDD is checked in the backup settings screen, but greyed out, so I cannot uncheck it. It is not checked for file backup.
How do I exclude this disk from the Full PC Backup?
Due to an Office Enterprise issue that can only be resolved with a clean re-install of Vista on an ACER computer rather than re-installing the ACER factory load I have bought a Full version of VISTA Home Preimum so that I can do a CLEAN install. I have 3 partitions on my HD C, D & hidden, the hidden contains the factory load. My plan is to run a full back up to D as well as copies of my files. I will also make copies of my files off computer. I do have the ACER recovery disks but I hope to never have to use them. When I am all backed up I would like to format C, get rid of the hidden partition, keep D, put the VISTA DVD into the drive and do a clean install of VISTA on C. I could be wrong but I think that it would be best to format before putting the VISTA disk into the drive so there is no confusion between product keys etc. this is not an upgrade it is the same version that ACER supplied.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am SO bored, because everything in Vista must Allow or Deny. And even though i ALLOW, ME, the ADMINISTRATOR, THE OWNER from the Computer has the acess Denied. Thats dumb, i think. i was wondering, how can i Take Ownership from my WHOLE computer and have the Full Permission from just everything. In a way to grant Acess to whole Notebook. How do i do it? I know its possible cause in a Modified Windows Version it was like that.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn vista though you can't run dos in full screen So I really wanted to load a version of Windows 98 on to a new partition on my new computer. I created a new partition and a windows 98 startup cd and re started the computer. I ran fdisk and set the new partition active and attempted to load Win98. For some reason unknown to me 98 wouldn't install properly so I gave up. I restarted and deleted the partition through fdisk. I then set the Vista partiton active and now the computer won't load vista at all, only a black screen with a flashing cursor.

I tried to do a search but the "full" just brings up references to the Full Backup you can do with Windows Vista Ultimate. Any one know where I could find out best practices for doing backups. For example, do I reformat the drive my backup is on so I can do another backup? Or do I buy a bigger drive, and continue doing this as the months go by? Do I swap for another drive to continue doing my backups, and just keep buying more drives as they get filled? Do I hope that Moore's Law also applies to hard drive storage?

For this purpose, I will use the Complete PC Backup utility, delete the existing partitions, create a single partition, and restore the computer image created earlier.
Would this be the correct procedure, or the utility is going to recreate the three partitions and my work would be useless?
